The Davis Family YMCA is seeking donations for its FIVE Squared benefit art show and sale. All art must be 5 inches by 5 inches, and created on or attached to a stiff surface (mat board, foam core, etc). All mediums will be accepted, no frames necessary, and lightweight enough to hang via sticky tack. The deadline for entry is Jan. 25. The artist’s name and title of piece should be written on the back and the requisite paperwork included. Drop submissions off at the service desk, or mail to Davis Family YMCA, 45 McClurg Road in Boardman; attention to Suzanne Gray. Artists may donate up to eight pieces; children may enter four. An opening reception will take place on Feb 3 from 1:30-3 p.m. The sale will open at 2:30 p.m., with each piece selling for $25. All proceeds benefit the Y’s ARTreach program. Join the Austintown library every Wednesday in January at 10 a.m. for developmentally appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help your child (ages 2-3) become a successful reader. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

This event, which will take place on Jan. 15, 22 and 29 at 10 a.m. at the Austintown library, is for caregivers and their little ones who are 6-23 months. There will be 20 minutes of language enrichment including rhymes, songs and stories, followed by time to play and socialize.
If you have ever thought about cutting the cord on your cable or satellite plan, learn about cord-cutting and the basics of streaming, including various devices and services available at this program at the Austintown library on Jan. 16 at 6:30 p.m. This event is for adults.

This once-a-month evening story time features stories, movement and early literacy education. The next event will take place on Jan. 28 at 6:30 p.m. at the Austintown library. The evening story time is open to anyone, but geared toward preschool children and their families.

The annual Christmas Social of the GFWC Ohio Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League took place on Dec. 3 at The Magic Tree Restaurant in Boardman. Members of the league brought diapers to be donated to Making Kids Count. Dr. Seuss books were also bought by members and donated to member Maddie Crish’s second-grade class at Market Street Elementary School for Christmas, where she concluded her student teaching. The Boardman Poland Junior Women’s League is open to all women older than 18 and residing in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties who are interested in friendship, fun and community involvement. Their mission is to provide a creative outlet for women interested in providing community service in areas of arts, conservation, education, home life, international affairs and public affairs.
