GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE:
TOO MUCH SPECTATORSHIP
REV DR. CECIL RICHARDS, Pastor of the Kingstown Baptist Church, has expressed concern that too many people are staying on the sidelines or in their comfort zone, while this country experiences a surge in domestic violence and other crimes against women and girls. Dr Richards’ concern came as he delivered a powerful address at a Rally at Heritage Square last Friday afternoon. The Rally followed a March through Kingstown organized as part of activities to highlight the scourge of
gender-based violence. “There is too much spectatorship. You hear me? There is too much spectatorship for this issue that is destroying lives, that is destroying homes, that is destroying individuals. There is way too much spectatorship. And, this event this evening is a very signal of the fact that there is really too much of this,” Dr Richards told the Rally which was dominated by women.
