PUBLIC HEALTH AMENDMENT BILL PASSED IN HOUSE by DAYLE DASILVA THE PUBLIC HEALTH AMENDMENT BILL successfully made its way through all its stages and was passed in Parliament during the early morning hours of August 6. The Bill amended provisions inserted in the Public Health Act of 1977 and sought Minister of Health St Clair Prince to modernize the existing health legislation to protect against and provide a health response to the spread of disease, in this case specifically COVID-19. Health Minister St Clair Prince, who brought the motion to Parliament, explained that the section required some modification — hence the proposed amendments that were brought. He said that the Government was aware of its responsibilities to the people and have gone all out to protect the livelihoods of Vincentians. “We recognized this pandemic for what it was, it is a health emergency of monumental proportions,” Prince said. Protocols aimed at curbing the spread of the pandemic were implemented according to the Minister of Health, however he said that effort was put into getting persons to understand that getting vaccinated against COVID-19 was the best tool.
