MV GUIDANCE RESCUES FV GLORIOUS ON SUNDAY, APRIL 03, the crew of a Grenadian registered fishing vessel - the FV Glorious thanked the captain and crew of the MV Guidance for their quick response in coming to their rescue, after having run out of fuel (diesel) and began drifting away quickly. They were about 5 miles West of Canouan heading back to Grenada, when they ran out of fuel. According to the Captain of the MV Guidance he received a call from the vessel in distress. He immediately informed the Coast Guard and Customs, who requested that he procced with the rescue, since the available coast guard patrol would not be able to tow the fishing vessel, which was much large that the patrol. The MV Guidance towed the stricken vessel into Canouan where it was searched as a standard procedure, and log book scrutinized. The crew were not allowed to disembark and an all night watch was in effect to ensure there was no violation of Customs orders. Having purchased fuel in Canouan and engine operational again, the FV Glorious was able to depart Canouan and return to Grenada. “on their own steam”, much to the delight of worrying families in Grenada. This incident followed closely on one involving a St. Vincent and the Grenadines vessel, MV Fair Chance, which capsized and sank off the Bocas in Trinidad waters, on Saturday 02, April, leaving five of its seven-man crew missing.
