School, extracurricular activities, and part-time jobs can keep us pretty busy, and more often than not, self-care tends to be pushed to the back burner. On Saturday, September 30, you'll engage in an event that will empower you to thrive in your everyday life This event guide includes information on the event, workshop options, and more Before registering for the event, please take the time to review this guide

The Teen Wellness Retreat is a unique event aimed at promoting physical, mental, and emotional well-being among teens in our community Our goal is to provide you with a supportive and inclusive environment to learn valuable skills and engage in meaningful discussions about personal growth and self-care. This year, the Teen Wellness Retreat features 3 workshop sessions, self-care activities, a comedy show, a resource fair, lunch, giveaways, and more

Think of it as a day to reboot thoughtful conversations, delicious food and snacks, and activities and workshops designed to de-stress, refresh, and build confidence

We would like to thank the community organizations and businesses that have volunteered their time and talents to make this event a success!

This event is being offered by the City of Mountain View Only Mountain View and Los Altos teens in 6th-12th grade may attend, as all activities are designed for this age range.

Choose your own adventure during three different workshop sessions! Workshops are interactive, educational, and fun and run for 40 minutes each Topics include but are not limited to, mindfulness, stress management, fitness, and self expression Workshops are led by community organizations and

Workshop Session 1

9:35-10:15 a.m.

"Am I anxious, depressed? What can I do about it?"

Workshop provided by Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy and Technology (CAPT) Lab, Palo Alto University

This presentation will define depression and anxiety, and how these conditions are typically expressed in teenagers We will be reviewing common misconceptions, associated stigmatization, and will present information that supports depression and anxiety symptoms as typical parts of teenage development Attention will be given to identifying common environmental triggers, as well as introducing practical evidencebased coping strategies that have been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression in this population

Join us in making affirmation bracelets and sharing your experience with self-care! Personalize your own bracelet with a meaningful message for yourself or create one to be shared in the community.

Fueling Your Mind and Body

Workshop provided by Licensed Nurse Practitioner at Sonoma State University

Mental and physical health are intertwined.

UJam Dance

Workshop provided by YMCA Mountain View

This class blends world music, urban dance, old school hip-hop, and Bollywood into an athletic, high-intensity cardio workout that will make you sweat and energize your mind, body and spirit

When we don’t feel well mentally, we don’t feel well physically The opposite is also true: when we don’t feel well physically, we don’t feel well mentally Exercise and flexibility are important to physical health, and so is fueling your body with premium fuels! This nutrition workshop trains attendees to evaluate nutrition labels so they can make good food decisions without sacrificing flavor The workshop will also provide attendees some basic training on how to track some early indicators of future health problems which remain hidden for years

Smash Your Stress

Workshop provided by The View Teen Center

Push your limits, boost confidence, break social norms, and express your emotions in this fun, cathartic session Participants will self-reflect to identify what is stressing them out, what mental health struggles they’ve been having, or any trauma they’ve been working through On a ceramic plate, teens will write down what they want to let go of, then smash the plate!

Call to Action: Developmental Relationships

Workshop provided by Youth Community Service

Come to this workshop and engage with the 5 elements of the Developmental Relationship Framework to learn ways we can improve intergenerational relationships. This workshop was co-created by the staff and students at Youth Community Service

Supporting Healthy Engagement with Technology and Social Media

Workshop provided by #GoodforMEdia

#GoodforMEdia is a peer-mentoring campaign dedicated to uplifting youth wisdom and experience around social media engagement and the impacts it can have on mental health. In this workshop, we’ll explore discussions around the effect of social media on our mindset and daily lives

Understand Yo-Self Care

Self-care is an important part of wellness, but with so much going on, it can be easier said than done Join teen leaders in a curated room with various self-care activities including rock painting, bracelet making, cookie decorating, and whimsical garden crafts, as well as calming atmospheric touches including comfy chairs, soft music, and more

Mental Health First Aid

Workshop provided by Project Safety Net

Mental Health First Aid is a skills-based training course that teaches participants about mental health and substance-use issues

Come learn more about Mental Health First Aid, how you can best equip your “Mental Health First Aid” kit, and understand what local local community resources are available for yourself, your friends, and your family

Workshop provided by Silicon Valley Shotokan Karate

Join us for Karate! Get some exercise that can also be a great stress-reliever! Karate can help with developing self-defense skills, selfcontrol, discipline and concentration But the way our instructor teaches it, it can also be FUN!

Mental Health Comedy Show

11:10-11:55 a.m.

Do you struggle with depression or anxiety…why not laugh about it?

The bay area ’ s funniest stand up comedians tell jokes and talk about their life with mental illness. All in the jovial environment of a late night talk show. Also featuring an interview with a mental health professional! Hosted by Kristee Ono.

Lunchtime Activities

12-1:15 p.m.

Lunch

A healthy lunch will be served, free of charge. Attendees will receive a slice of pizza from Pizza My Heart For dessert, Crumbl Cookies will be served

Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options available! Healthy snacks and drinks will also be offered free of charge throughout the day

Mental Health Resource Fair

Visit the Resource Fair to learn all about what it means to take care of your mental health There will be representatives from local organizations and outside services who can help answer any questions and provide resources and giveaways

Therapy Dogs

Pets, hugs, and cuddles from furry friends! Furry Friends Pet Assisted Therapy Services will be on site with dogs who will help provide stress relief

Closing Activites

2:05-2:30 p.m.

Boba Drinks

After the final workshop session, you will be treated to a Boba drink! Choose from three different flavors Milk and non-milk and caffeine and non-caffeine options will be available.

Swag Bags

Each teen will leave the event with a swag bag containing mental health giveaways, goodies, and items from our partners! You don't want to miss this.

Raffle Prizes

Upon check-in, you will receive a raffle ticket for a variety of prizes including but not limited to LEGO® set, a Sailing Charter with Adventure Cat, a year-long subscription to Headspace, and Beats Studio Buds There will be the opportunity to earn additional raffle tickets throughout the day

What is the Teen Wellness Retreat?

The Teen Wellness Retreat is an annual city event providing 6th-12th grade students with an opportunity to learn, relax, and refresh Our goal is to provide you with a supportive and inclusive environment to learn valuable skills and engage in meaningful discussions about personal growth and self-care This year, the Teen Wellness Retreat features 3 workshop sessions, self-care activities, a comedy show, a resource fair, lunch, giveaways, and more

What will I learn?

During the event, you'll learn:

How to unpack and unravel difficult emotions and relax when you ’ re in high-stress situations

Methods to practice self-care and being comfortable in your own skin

Tools that you can apply to school, sleep, relationships, and life in general!

Will I be able to choose the workshops I attend?

Yes! Choose your own adventure during three different workshop sessions You may attend whichever workshops interest you and meet your mental health needs

Do I have to the attend the entire event?

Yes, due to demand and to get the most out of the day, we require participants to be able to attend the event in it's entirety Due to safety, there will be no come-and-go privileges

What do I need to bring into the event?

Just bring yourself and an open mind! Everything that you need will be provided Please leave distractors at home - take advantage of the opportunity to unplug!

Is it really free?

Yes! The event is free and all-inclusive. You'll be served a healthy lunch from Pizza My Heart, be treated to Crumbl Cookie and Tea Cub Boba, and we'll even send you home with a swag bag!

Teens will formally check-in to the event and be expected to stay on site for the entirety of the event Due to safety, there will be no come-and-go privileges During the event, if you need to leave early for any reason, please speak to a staff member on-site
