Penelope Pickers Vintage: Where Fashion and Memories Come Alive
Tucked inside Cooper & Co , Penelope Pickers Vintage is a treasure trove where timeless style meets personal flair Founded in 2020 by Michelle Joslin, the boutique was born out of her lifelong love for fashion, curating, and giving vintage pieces a fresh new life “I love taking things from the past and mixing them with items in the present walah, it’s amazing,” Michelle says with a smile For her, vintage isn’t just about clothing; it’s about creating a fabulous, one-of-a-kind look that no one else has.
Michelle’s journey to Penelope Pickers Vintage is one of adventure, entrepreneurship, and heart. After traveling the world training in a corporate setting, she retired with the desire to do something fun and fulfilling Fashion had always been a passion, and with her natural gift for curating unique looks, she transformed that passion into a business Even as a child, she had the spirit of an entrepreneur—running lemonade stands and raising money for children with muscular dystrophy through carnivals Helping others loo been woven into her story from the very beginning

At the heart of Penelope Pickers Vintage is a mission: to help others look awesome for their next party or event Michelle thrives on customer relationships and old-school service “My favorite customers are the ones who trust me, ” she says. “They’ll try things on, not sure it works, but then I’ll pull a piece they never would have picked and when they try it, they say, ‘OMG, I would have never chosen this, but it looks so good!’ That’s the magic.”
The boutique is also a reflection of Michelle’s love for community She describes her business as something built by a village of friends who help her find amazing, curated pieces She often plans sip-and-shop events where groups can enjoy a night of fun, laughter, and storytelling while shopping, with a portion of sales given back to local organizations Guests leave with new outfits and new memories, often reminiscing about how their mother or grandm

It’s the bes elle says.

When she’s not in her shop (which she works every day), Michelle loves walking Baylor Stadium, checking out new restaurants and businesses in Waco, and taking her grandsons on adventures She beams with excitement talking about taking them to their first concert soon—Mercy Me and Toby Mac. She’s also a fan of western boots and makes it a point to support other local businesses whenever she can.
Penelope Pickers Vintage is more than a store it’s a place of joy, laughter, and connection

Michelle is known for sharing hugs, positivity, and encouragement with every customer who walks through the door Her goal is to keep doing just that until she’s 100 years old: spreading love, being a positive influence, and blessing others wherever she can.
And if you stop by, you might even catch one of Michelle’s funny stories like the time she got stuck in a vintage dress while trying it on herself and had to call her best friend to come help her out of it. It’s that mix of humor, honesty, and heart that makes Penelope Pickers Vintage such a special part of Waco’s small business community

Solar in Waco: Why Now Is the Time to Invest in Clean Energy
Waco is known for its warm weather, wide-open skies, and plenty of sunshine. While that might mean hot summers, it also makes our city one of the best places in Texas to take advantage of solar power. More and more homeowners across Central Texas are discovering that installing solar panels isn’t just about lowering energy bills — it’s about energy independence, protecting the environment, and preparing for the future.
ut there’s something important every homeowner should know: the 30% federal solar tax credit is ending on January 1, 2026. This credit has been one of the biggest reasons solar has become affordable for everyday families. It allows you to deduct nearly a third of your solar installation cost from your federal taxes. For many homeowners, that means saving tens of thousands of dollars. After the deadline, those savings disappear. Waiting even a couple of years could mean paying thousands more for the very same system.
The
Impact of Solar in Texas Switching to solar has both environmental and financial rewards:
 Cleaner Air & Greener Communities:
A typical home solar system offsets about 12.7 tons of CO₂ each year — the same as planting nearly 300 trees annually. That’s a real difference in our Central Texas air quality.
Long-Term Savings: Families who invest in solar often save $1,800 to $2,150 per year on energy costs. Over the lifespan of a system, that can add up to more than $78,000 in avoided utility bills.
Peace of Mind: With optional battery backups, homeowners can keep the lights on during grid outages and store extra energy for later use.

Making Solar Simple
For many, the biggest hurdle isn’t whether solar makes sense it’s knowing where to start. That’s where local experts like Andy at TxD Consult come in. He’s been helping Waco-area families design solar systems that fit their homes, their budgets, and their long-term energy needs.
Unlike big-box companies that cycle you through sales teams and installers, Andy works with you personally from consultation to completion. He makes sure every detail is handled and every question answered.
“Whenyouworkwithme,yougetonepointofcontactfromstarttofinish—no runaround.EverysystemIinstallcomeswithuptoa20-yearwarranty,andwhensolar isdoneright,there’snoreasonitshouldn’tpayforitselfinthreetofiveyears.”
Why the Time Is Now
With Waco’s sunny climate, deregulated energy market, and a tax credit deadline fast approaching, the timing couldn’t be better. Homeowners who install solar before January 1, 2026 will lock in significant savings that simply won’t be available afterward. For families in Central Texas, the decision isn’t just about panels on the roof it’s about long-term security, lower bills, and leaving a lighter footprint for future generations.

More Than a Thrift Store:
How The Clothesline Threads Hope Into Waco

The Clothesline & Voucher Center is more than just a boutique thrift store in Waco—it’s a place where compassion and community come together.
Founded by Mission Waco in 2003, the store was designed to provide quality, affordable clothing for the public while also directly supporting local programs. Profits benefit Mission Waco’s Manna House, a residential recovery program for adult men working toward healing and restoration.
Inside The Clothesline, you’ll find racks of thoughtfully displayed clothing, accessories, and home décor, but what truly sets it apart is the dignity it offers. For participants who are referred by Mission Waco’s Meyer Center for social services, the Voucher Center means they get to choose items themselves transforming a shopping trip into an empowering, confidence-building experience.
Frequent customer and volunteer Jeni Harris shared her own story of impact:
“I enjoy shopping at a place where people and clothes are given a second chance! I have enjoyed the opportunity to volunteer there along with my teenagers. People from all walks of life shop at The Clothesline. I like shopping somewhere that makes a difference by supporting a good cause—it is more than just a transactional business. One of my teens bought her prom dress at a great savings and was the hit of the prom! She’s learned to be proud of wearing secondhand clothes just by volunteering there.”
The Clothesline is also a favorite spot for local bargain hunters and fashion lovers who know that secondhand doesn’t mean second-best. Waco businesswoman Autumn Outlaw has found a creative way to spotlight this by hosting “A Dress A Day in May,” where she styles and shares incredible looks pulled straight from The Clothesline racks. Her posts remind us all that shopping secondhand can be fun, fashionable, and impactful—supporting a nonprofit while also showing off unique

Special touches like the Wednesday Half-Price Sale and the Flash Friday Sale make it easy for shoppers to get involved and score some great deals, but the real magic is in the connections. Volunteers and staff work hard to create a welcoming, dignified space where, whether you’re there to shop, donate, or redeem a voucher, you leave with more than a bag—you leave with a sense of community.
For those who grew up in Waco or have recently made it home, The Clothesline represents what makes our city so special: neighbors supporting neighbors, people giving generously, and families building new memories together.
When you step into The Clothesline, you’ll see it’s not just a store. It’s a story of hope, resilience, and creativity woven into every hanger and shelf. And the best part? Anyone can be part of it by shopping, donating, volunteering, or simply spreading the word.

Atlas Chiropractic is not just adjusting spines it’s helping Waco thrive with renewed wellness, community, and calm centered around precision, care, and heart.
When Dr. Christy Flick founded Atlas Chiropractic in 2024, she brought more than two decades of chiropractic expertise to Waco. Recently certified in Orthospinology, a specialized form of upper cervical care, she relocated to be closer to family and envisioned a healthier community off the ground grounded in the spine. Now, in August 2025, that dream has taken root in a beautiful new Woodway location at 16401 Badger Ranch Blvd., Ste B, thoughtfully designed for comfort and healing. It’s a fresh chapter for Atlas Chiropractic and for everyone seeking relief, clarity, and the ability to feel more like themselves.
What exactly sets this practice apart? At the core of Atlas Chiropractic is Orthospinology, a gentle, scientifically precise method that uses advanced imaging to determine the exact vector for each upper cervical (neck) adjustment. Dr. Flick doesn’t rely on guesswork instead, she draws a map of the body’s healing path and guides each patient toward better alignment, longer-lasting correction, and genuine nerve system function. It’s chiropractic with clarity, comfort, and real results.
“I lived with chronic migraines for more than twenty-seven years. After seeing countless neurologists and being put on so many medications, I had honestly given up hope. Then I found Dr. Flick—and she completely changed my life. She helped me understand my body in a way no one else ever had. Today, I am off all five of my medications and completely migraine-free. Atlas Chiropractic has given me a life I never thought was possible.” – C.R.
WELLNESS

And she’s not doing it alone. The team includes Kelly Allender, an experienced Office Coordinator and business developer who also runs Kelson’s Boutique, and Bryn Hatton, a local chiropractic assistant with a psychology degree and a passion for making each patient feel welcome and cared-for. Together, they ensure every part of your visit from scheduling to adjustment feels intentional, thoughtful, and centered around you.
At Atlas, the healing process starts with a Blueprint Spinal Analysis, designed to uncover the root cause of pain or dysfunction not just treat symptoms. From there, Dr. Flick and her team build a personalized care plan, supporting healing from day one. Whether you're struggling with chronic pain, posture issues, migraines, or postural imbalance, this method offers hope—even when you feel stuck.
Patients often say the best proof is in their renewed lives. One wrote how, after years of back pain and endless doctor visits, they finally found relief and stability with Atlas Chiropractic. Another shared how chronic vertigo and migraines became manageable, allowing them to travel and create memories again— something they thought wasn’t possible. These stories come from real healing, personalized care, and the type of team that genuinely listens.

f upper cervical care when seeking help for her son s chronic ear infections an adjustment that brought him healing. That experience inspired her to become a chiropractor, driven by gratitude and a desire to help others regain their health and hope.
Opening the Woodway location in August 2025 marked a powerful milestone. As excited as they are about the new space, it’s the deeper ripple that matters: expanding access to care, welcoming more families, and anchoring Atlas Chiropractic in the heart of Waco’s wellness community.
Healing at Atlas Chiropractic goes beyond immediate relief—it’s about helping your body find its best, most balanced, pain-free path. With gentle precision, measurable care steps and a team anchored in meaning and compassion, Atlas is e deep, and live well.

SIMPLE SCHOOL YEAR MEAL PREPPING SIMPLE SCHOOL YEAR MEAL

From My Homestead Kitchen to Yours My to
When school is back in session and life speeds up again, meal prepping becomes more than just a time-saver — it becomes a lifeline. Whether you ' re packing lunch bags or trying to pull together dinner after a full day, a little planning can go a long way in keeping your family nourished, balanced, and connected. And no, it doesn’t have to be overwhelming. In fact, with a few simple habits and a sprinkle of calm, it can even feel… hygge.
Keep It Simple: Plan Ahead, Not Perfect
At the heart of our meal prepping here at the Hygge Homestead is this: simple, seasonal, and satisfying. I don’t aim for pictureperfect meals — I aim for balance and calm. Meal prepping doesn’t have to take all day Sunday or be packed in matching containers with perfect labels. It just needs to work for you. My best advice? Start small. Maybe prep a couple of staples for the week and build from there as you find your own rhythm. Take 15 minutes to glance at your week — school events, late workdays, or nights when you know you'll need something fast — and plan around that. Then prep:
✔ Oven-roasted veggies (carrots, sweet potatoes, beets, red onions, etc.)
✔ One or two proteins — roasted chicken thighs, meatballs, hardboiled eggs, or baked tofu
✔ A big batch of grains like rice or quinoa (freeze what you won’t use right away)
✔ Sliced raw veggies like cucumbers, carrots, or bell peppers stored in glass containers
✔ One or two dressings or dips like hummus or yogurt dill sauce

One of my favorite time-savers is salads in a jar. They’re colorful, convenient, and hold up beautifully for 3–4 days in the fridge. Just layer your ingredients in a wide-mouth glass jar — I like to start with things like shredded carrots, chickpeas, chopped cucumber, olives, or leftover roasted veggies. Then add your greens (like romaine or spinach) on top so they stay nice and crisp. I always keep the dressing on the side, so nothing gets soggy before you’re ready to eat. When lunchtime rolls around, just pour on the dressing, give it a good shake, and you’ve got a nourishing, no-fuss meal ready to go. And don’t forget: a few prepped snack bags with nuts, fruit, or boiled eggs can save the day during those post-school or late workday slumps. The goal is not perfection. The goal is peace around mealtimes — and a fridge that greets you with options instead of overwhelm

Lunch doesn't have to be a stress. A few ideas from our Back to School Lunch Guide make it easier to mix and match with what you prepped:
• Mini charcuterie boxes with veggies (like carrot sticks, cucumber rounds, or snap peas), cold meats, berries (like blueberries or sliced strawberries), and a handful of nuts or seeds • Leftover wraps or lettuce boats with roasted chicken and hummus

• Skewers with fruit (like grapes, melon, or pineapple chunks), raw veggies (like cherry tomatoes or bell pepper squares), or a mix of protein and olives
• Thermos-friendly soups made from your prepped veggies and broth
• Plain yogurt with fresh fruit and berries of choice — try banana slices, blueberries, raspberries, or chopped apple for a fun and colorful mix
Kids need real, nourishing food to support their energy, focus, and mood throughout the school day. Fast or processed foods may fill their stomachs, but they rarely fuel their brains or support steady energy. A lunch made from whole, colorful ingredients gives your child the nutrients they need to learn, grow, and feel their best. Tip: Let your kids help pack their lunch the night before. It teaches independence, and they’re more likely to eat it!
A LittleSweetisOkay,Too
It’s okay to include a little sweet treat in the lunchbox. Balance doesn’t mean you have to skip all the fun. Instead of a big cupcake or candy bar, try packing a small homemade muffin, a couple of dark chocolate squares, or even a date rolled in coconut. Just a little something sweet can make the lunch feel special, and it still fits within a nourishing routine

Meal prepping isn’t about doing more — it’s about doing less in the moment by being a little more intentional ahead of time. It helps us eat better, feel better, and have more time to do what matters: be with the people we love. So from my homestead kitchen to yours, take a deep breath, keep it simple, and enjoy the rhythm of this season one bite, one walk, and one dinner table moment at a time

In Waco, support often comes in the most welcoming places—quiet offices, warm smiles, and caring conversations Care Net Pregnancy Center of Central Texas, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, stands as one of those vital places: offering free, life-affirming care, no-cost services, and a community that walks alongside individuals at one of life's most challenging crossroads.
Since 1984, Care Net has been equipping women and families with free medical resources including lab-quality pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, options counseling, STI testing, abortion pill reversal, and emotional care for pregnancy loss. These services are available at their Medical Site, while their Support Site offers a full spectrum of practical and spiritual support including parenting classes, Bible studies, educational programs, material assistance (think diapers, wipes, formula), case management, a boutique, and help with rent or utilities. Every offering radiates their mission: to strengthen pregnant women and parents in a life-affirming community through care rooted in compassion and the abundant love of Jesus Christ.
What makes Care Net essential in our community is not only what they do—but who they are They portray a genuine partnership: offering not just immediate help, but also long-term support. Through programs like their “Nourishment Ministry,” clients attending classes now receive healthy, home-cooked meals, adding warmth to every learning experience.

The impact is profound. Over nearly four decades, Care Net has provided an estimated 100,000 free pregnancy tests, supported tens of thousands through free ultrasounds and counseling that led to parenthood or adoption, and delivered the Gospel spirit and spiritled generosity—to thousands more. Families with infants and toddlers (up to 36 months) can stop by the Support Site any weekday for diaper and formula assistance because at Care Net, “every day is a diaper day.”
Because of Care Net’s commitment to remaining open even through crises (like during the pandemic), they served hundreds of new clients needing material assistance, while continuing to provide hope and practical solutions when families needed it most.
But perhaps what resonates most deeply is the sense of belonging Care Net fosters. As one longtime client shared, “What I love most is how they make you feel like family ” Another said, “Care Net made me realize I’m never alone it was like the weight of the world was lifted off of me.” These voices echo the true value of locations like Care Net—a place where healing, confidence, and connection begin.
Why This Matters for Waco
In spotlighting organizations like Care Net, The Vibe Waco helps bridge the gap between nonprofit services and our community’s awareness By keeping stories of compassion and support visible we strengthen the relationships that sustain our city When community

Why This Matters for Waco
At the heart of Care Net’s mission is the belief that women who are informed are women who are empowered. By offering clear, accurate, and compassionate information, Care Net equips moms with the tools and confidence they need to step boldly into pregnancy and parenting Just as important is the understanding that no one should walk this road alone. Care Net creates a network of encouragement and support, reminding families that community is often the antidote to fear or discouragement. And through intentional connections whether that’s linking a mom to a parenting class, a dad to a mentor, or a family to resources that meet immediate needs—Care Net ensures that people don’t just get by, they thrive
In every diaper bag given, every class taught, every prayer shared, and every story heard, Care Net is quietly shaping a stronger Waco. It’s a reminder that when we invest in people, when we build support around families, and when we choose compassion, our entire community grows stronger together.

I have a true passion for helping others and a commitment to excellence in everything I do. My goal is to provide personalized service that meets the unique needs of every client. When I’m not helping people buy or sell their homes, you’ll likely find me cooking, traveling, or getting lost in a good book.

From the Vault: Waco’s First Mobile Bookstore Unlocks the Joy of Reading
Waco has a new kind of story on wheels. Meet Jennifer Smith, the visionary behind From the Vault, Waco’s first mobile bookstore. Launched in 2025, this unique business is already turning heads and flipping pages—by bringing books directly to the community in a way that feels fresh, memorable, and a little bit magical.
A Dream Built on Stories
Jennifer has always been a book lover, but her journey to owning a bookstore didn’t follow the traditional path. Before creating From the Vault, she worked as a luxury travel advisor, specializing in Disney, Universal, cruises, and custom family vacations. That experience sparked something big.

“I wanted to create magical, high-touch experiences for people,” Jennifer says. “Travel helped me see how joyful and meaningful those moments of discovery can be and I realized I could translate that into books. Both businesses are about creating joy, memories, and a sense of wonder.”
With that spark, From the Vault was born: a mobile bookstore designed to bring the magic of books straight to farmers' markets, schools, pop-ups, and community gatherings.
More Than Just a Bookstore
From the Vault isn’t your average bookshop. Every title is hand-selected, spanning everything from youth books to spicy romance novels, fantasy, and thrillers. Shoppers can pick their next read in a fun, interactive way like a “blind date with a book” where the story is wrapped, waiting to be revealed.
“It’s more than just a bookstore it’s an experience,” Jennifer explains. “That surprise of unlocking your next favorite read is what makes it special.”
Her customers agree. At her very first event, a young reader picked up a mystery book and exclaimed, “This feels like Christmas!” For Jennifer, that single moment perfectly captured her mission: to deliver excitement, joy, and connection through stories.
“People from all walks of life can connect through stories,” she says. “That’s the heart of From the Vault.”

Building Community Through Books
From the Vault has quickly become a local favorite, not just for its shelves but for its creativity. The mobile bookstore hosts Book Bedazzling Nights and themed pop-ups that blend books, crafts, and community. Whether you’re in a book club, women’s group, or a family simply looking to spend time together, Jennifer’s vision is to create shared experiences around reading.
The Woman Behind the Books
Jennifer lives in Waco with her husband and two daughters, balancing a busy, joy-filled life of family, school activities, and running two businesses. Her daughters have even been part of the journey—volunteering, shopping, and learning to be proud of secondhand or surprise finds.
When she’s not behind the wheel of the bookstore, you’ll find Jennifer exploring Waco’s farmers markets, supporting local businesses, or enjoying coffee while dreaming up her next idea. And here’s a fun fact: she’s a proud Taylor Swift fan, with some of From the Vault’s branding inspired by the singer’s lyrics and the idea of “unlocking hidden gems.”
Looking Ahead
Jennifer has big dreams for the future of From the Vault. She hopes to expand into subscription boxes, bookish merchandise, and partnerships with schools, book clubs, and other local businesses. Her ultimate goal? For readers to see the From the Vault truck and feel a spark of joy, knowing a new adventure is waiting for them.
“Books are more than just pages,” she says. “They’re experiences, emotions, and connections. That’s what I want people to find with From the Vault.”
Want to catch From the Vault in action? Keep an eye out at Waco farmers markets and community events—or follow along on social media to see where Jennifer’s book truck will roll next. You never know what story you’ll unlock.

IfyouspendevenafewminuteswithCamieCross, you’llquicklyrealizeshe isn’t your typical real estate broker. Sure, she knows the numbers, the contracts, and the ins and outs of the Waco market. But when she talks about her work, it isn’t about transactions or sales—it’s about people, stories, andthemeaningof“home.”
“Real estate is a helping profession,” Camie shares with a warm smile. “At therootofeverychoiceImakeisthisquestion:HowcanIhelp? That’swhat drivesmeeverysingleday.”
It’sthisheart-centeredapproachthatledhertolaunchLoganCapitalReal Estate in 2023, a small but mighty brokerage based in Lorena. The name? Camie’s path to real estate wasn’t a straight line. Originally from Central Illinois, she’s lived in more places than most people visit in a lifetime: Chicago, Naperville, West Monroe, Logan, Hewitt, and finally Lorena. Each move gave her a deeper understanding of what it feels liketopackup, startover, andsearchforhome.
Her background is just as diverse degrees in Community Health Education, time spent in the restaurant industry, a small oil business in Louisiana, even a stint at a community college in Utah. But the common thread? Service. “Helping others is what motivates me. If I canbrightensomeone’sdayoreasetheirburden, that’sagoodday.”
When she and her husband settled in Central Texas, Camie found her calling in real estate. Eight years later, she’s known not only for her knowledge of the market but also for the way she makes every client feellikefamily.

Speaking of family, Camie lights up when she talks about her own. She and her husband—who towers over her at 6’5” compared to her 4’8” just celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary. Together, they’re raising two daughters: four-year-old Kenzie, and Logan, their eight-year-old pup whostillthinkssherunsthehouse.

Some businesses are born out of strategy, others out of necessity but for the owner of Rustic Roast + Reclaimed Relics, it was a blend of both passion and purpose. Opened in early 2025, this unique spot combines two loves: the craft of coffee and the joy of vintage finds.
For the owner, coffee has always been more than just a drink it’s a way to connect. Her very first job was at a small coffee stand in Oregon, where she learned that sometimes the most meaningful bonds start with something as simple as memorizing a customer’s order Later, a job at Magnolia Press in Waco gave her a broader perspective on the art of coffee-making and fueled her dream of owning a stand of her own.

At the end of the day, Rustic Roast + Reclaimed Relics is about more than coffee or antiques. It’s about family, resilience, and connection. It’s about honoring the past while creating a future— one latte and one relic at a time.
But her story doesn’t stop at coffee. Growing up, she watched her mom repurpose furniture, sparking a lifelong love for antiques and interior design. Studying architectural drafting at TSTC deepened that curiosity. Together, those passions grew into something bigger: a place where 30+ vendors can share their treasures and creativity, side by side with her own handcrafted lattes.
Rustic Roast + Reclaimed Relics is more than a storefront it’s family. The business is entirely family-owned and operated, with everyone pitching in to keep things running. “We’ve worked harder here than anywhere else,” she says. “But it’s the good kind of hard—the kind that makes you proud at the end of the day.”
For now, the coffee bar is a one-woman show. Every time customers pull through the drive-thru, it’s the same smiling face greeting them and the same steady hands behind every cup. “My ideal customer is someone who trusts me enough to let me make them something they didn’t even know they’d love,” she shares with a grin.
The mission is simple but heartfelt: to be a light in the community. Whether it’s someone stopping in for a pick-me-up on a hard day or a customer who discovers a vintage piece that sparks an old memory, she wants Rustic Roast + Reclaimed Relics to be that place of joy.

It’s a vision inspired in part by her greatgrandfather, a WWII veteran who taught her about gardening, baking, and living fully. After his passing in 2019, her family began road trips that eventually led her to Waco and Lorena. “I like to think he would be proud of how far I’ve come, ” she says softly. “My business goal above all else is to make him proud in my day-to-day life.”
While she and her husband are newlyweds building a home in Lacy-Lakeview (with a move to Lorena in the future), their life is full—caring for pets, raising chickens and ducks, and dreaming of kids and land. She also dreams of expanding Rustic Roast + Reclaimed Relics, adding more baristas, more space for vendors, and even more community events.
Plans for outdoor markets, car shows, parents’ nights out, and children’s activities are already in the works. “Whatever blessings we receive as a business,” she says, “ we want to pour them back into the community.”

KMSports&Fitness:BuildingStrengthand CommunityinLorena

For Kris Moore, owner of KM Sports & Fitness LLC, fitness is more than a workout routine—it’s a way of life, a mission, and a promise to the Lorena community he calls home.
A Dream Turned Reality
Moore launched KM Sports & Fitness in 2020, fulfilling a lifelong dream of running his own business. But for him, opening a gym wasn’t just about weights and cardio—it was about giving back. “Many of my close friends, family, and local members of Lorena helped my mother and our family when we moved here,” Moore shared. “I want to reciprocate what was given to us.”
More Than Just a Gym
At KM Sports & Fitness, the mission is clear: empower individuals through fitness while building a stronger, healthier community. Moore’s team works with members to improve not only their physical health, but also their mental and emotional well-being. Unlike big-box gyms, the facility offers a personal touch, including guidance in nutrition, weight loss, recovery, wellness, and even IV therapy through an on-site registered nurse and soon-to-be nurse practitioner. “We’re not your cookie-cutter fitness gym,” Moore said. “We provide real support in every area of wellness.”
A Coach at Heart
Moore’s path to fitness leadership started early. From 2002 to 2020, he worked at the YMCA, beginning as a personal trainer and youth sports official before rising to Health & Wellness Director and Sports Director. That experience cemented his passion for helping others and mentoring youth.
“My ideal customer is someone who wants to be the best version of themselves—not just physically, but mentally and emotionally,” he explained. “That kind of growth helps people become great mentors to our youth and our community.”
Local Roots, Lasting Impact
Moore has been part of the Lorena community since 1995. His daughter, a sophomore at Lorena High School, is a daily reminder of why he invests so much into the city’s youth.
Growing up in a lowincome family in Waco, Moore faced his share of hardships, but he uses those experiences as fuel to inspire others.
“My struggles and hardships are a testimony I share with our youth,” he said. “I want them to know they don’t have to go through what I did.”

Looking Ahead
Moore hopes to expand KM Sports & Fitness into a larger facility that can serve more people and develop partnerships with local schools. His vision includes providing opportunities for students interested in health and wellness careers.
But no matter how big the gym grows, the heart of the business will remain the same: community.
“I’ve seen the dark, and I do all I can to be a light so that my people don’t have to see the dark,” Moore said. “I’m just a local guy doing my best to give back to a community that gave me more than I could ever ask for.”

Family Halloween Costumes: A Tradition That Grows With You
Halloween has always been one of those holidays that feels bigger than just one night For our family, it’s become a tradition that stretches from the first fall festival to the last piece of candy traded at the kitchen table. And at the heart of it all? Costumes.
Each year, our son gets not one but two outfits one for school parties and festivals, and another for Halloween night when the whole family dresses up together in a theme. Watching his excitement as he gets to “double dip” on costumes reminds me why we started this tradition in the first place: it’s about joy, play, and making memories that last
Pro tip: After Halloween, hit up all of the costume clearance aisles. Those costumes became gifts, rainy-day fun, and the spark for countless afternoons of imaginative play. Now, it’s a family tradition to be passed down, with a pretty sweet dress-up tub Princesses and superheroes everywhere!
The best part of family costumes isn’t perfection it’s participation. Sometimes we ’ ve gone all out with themes, and other times it’s been as simple as coordinating colors or accessories. What matters most is doing it together.
So whether your family becomes superheroes, storybook characters, or even just a spooky mix of witches and skeletons, the magic is in the memory. This October, gather your crew, pick a theme (or two) and lean into the fun Because in Waco Halloween isn’t just about candy i that grow with every child, every year.

ding Students Toward College Success
For Morgan Williams, helping students reach their potential isn’t just a career—it’s a calling. As the owner of Class 101 Waco, she’s made it her mission to simplify the college admissions process for families and empower students to dream big.
From Classroom to College Coaching
Williams, a lifelong Woodway resident, opened the Waco branch of Class 101 in June 2021. Before launching her business, she spent more than a decade in the classroom as a teacher. What started as a plan to teach temporarily while pursuing a master’s degree quickly turned into a 12-year career.
“Once I was in the classroom working with so many amazing students, I kept teaching,” Williams said. That experience shaped her passion for guiding young people and ultimately inspired her to bring Class 101 to Central Texas.

The Mission
Class 101 Waco helps families navigate the often overwhelming college search, application, and financial aid process. Williams works with students as early as 8th grade, giving them time to set goals, build résumés, prepare for standardized tests, and plan strategically for their future.
Her approach is highly individualized. “Every student and family has different goals and needs,” she said. “We tailor our guidance so that it fits their journey.”
The Results Speak Volumes
In the past year alone, Williams worked with 21 seniors who submitted 110 college applications. The outcome? An incredible 94% acceptance rate and a collective $4.1 million in scholarships averaging nearly $200,000 per student.
For parents who see college planning as an expense, Williams calls it an investment. “At face value, the ROI is in the scholarships,” she explained. “But beyond the financial return, it saves time, reduces stress, and often improves family dynamics. For some parents, it means they don’t have to constantly nag their child about deadlines. For others, it puts the student in the driver’s seat, building maturity and independence.”
One parent shared:
“Morgan led my daughter through applications, suggested tours, and helped with ACT prep work. She guided me through FAFSA and other parent requirements I wouldn’t have known about. Once my daughter chose a school, Morgan assisted with scholarships and admissions paperwork. From start to finish, she was always just an email, call, or text away. If you’re considering Class 101, I would say YES—Morgan is a true CLASS-act!”
Rooted in Waco
Williams has deep roots in the Waco community. She and her husband, Jacob, have been married 18 years and are raising three children Wren (13), Willow (10), and Witten (8). Their household also includes two Mini Australian Shepherds, Sadie and Tucker, plus a tank of fish.
When she’s not working with students, you can find her at baseball fields, dance competitions, or enjoying local favorites like sushi, chips and guacamole, and frozen yogurt. She also treasures Waco traditions, from concerts at the old Margarita and Salsa Festival to walking the Cameron Park Zoo’s penguin exhibit or enjoying pizza at Slowrise while her kids play outside.
Looking Ahead
Williams hopes to continue expanding Class 101’s reach in Greater Waco, helping more students discover their path to higher education and financial opportunities. “College admissions can be unpredictable,” she admitted. “Sometimes a student doesn’t get into their dream school, even when they’ve done everything right. But we make sure they have options, and in the end, it always works out the way it should.”
Her office is located at 115 Topeka welcomes families ready to start th
“Helping students succeed is why I do what I do,” Williams said. “It’s about so much more than college—it’s about building confidence, independence, and a future they’re excited about.”

WhySmallBusinessesAretheHeartbeatofWaco (andHowtoHelpYoursThrive)
When you walk through downtown Waco on a Saturday morning, you can feel it —the buzz of coffee shops opening their doors, local boutiques setting out new displays, food trucks warming up their grills. These aren’t just businesses. They’re neighbors, dreamers, and families who have poured their heart into creating something for our community.
Small businesses are truly the heartbeat of Waco. They give our city its personality, its creativity, and its sense of home. Nationally, small businesses make up 99.9% of all U.S. businesses, but here in Waco, the impact feels especially personal. Each one is a piece of our identity, from the family-owned shops that have been around for decades to the new entrepreneurs testing bold ideas.
But let’s be honest running a small business isn’t easy. Behind every open sign is an owner juggling late nights, tight budgets, and the constant question: Am I doing enough to make this work? That’s where mindset and strategy come together.
One of the biggest challenges I see as a coach is that many entrepreneurs spend so much time working in their business that they forget to work on their business. They’re so focused on getting through the day-to-day that they lose sight of the bigger picture.

Celestial Sisters Alternative Gifts: A Magical Waco
Treasure Lighting Up the Fall
When the air turns crisp and pumpkins line porches, there’s no better time to talk about a business that thrives on a little magic. In the heart of Waco, Celestial Sisters Alternative Gifts has been serving the mystical and meaningful since 2019—and now, under the new leadership of Rory Murphey, it’s stepping into a bold new season.
Passing the Torch
Celestial Sisters began as a passion project for its original founder, but in 2023, Rory—an avid customer since day one—took over. “I feel incredibly blessed to be trusted with taking on the mantle,” Rory says. “This shop has always been close to my heart.”
The mission is as enchanting as the name: to bring joy and light to the witchy women (and men) of Waco. With over 230 glowing five-star reviews, it’s clear the shop has cast a spell on locals and visitors alike.
More Than Just a Shop
Every item on the shelves—or in the online cart—is carefully chosen. “We only stock what we’d keep in our personal collection,” Rory explains. From crystals and candles to otherworldly gifts, Celestial Sisters has become a trusted spot for those who love the mystical and meaningful.
And while the business is currently online, Rory dreams of a brick-andmortar lounge, complete with a library and coffee shop, where community and magic could mingle over lattes and lore.

A Love Story with Roots in Waco
This fall is extra special for Rory, who is preparing to marry their high school sweetheart in October. The couple’s story is woven into the history of the shop itself. “One of our fondest memories is going to the Celestial Sisters on Hewitt Drive, counting pocket change to buy each other gifts,” Rory shares. “That location has since closed, but now we’re working on getting this crystal ball rolling again.”
Cats, Crystals, and Community
Life at home is equally full of character. Rory shares their Waco home with a piebald cat—who even has his own section on the website—and a 4-year-old rescue thoroughbred racehorse, currently in training to learn the joys of being a horse outside the racetrack. When not tending to animals, you might find Rory at a local metal show supporting Waco musicians or reminiscing about their own days playing in a local band.
A Season of Light
As the autumn winds pick up, Celestial Sisters is more than just a place to shop. It’s a gathering spot—online for now—for those who seek a little sparkle in the shadows, a reminder that fall is about embracing both the cozy and the mysterious.

The Elephant in the Room
Helping Kids Handle Anxiety in the School Years
Fall in Waco has its own rhythm. The football games, pumpkin patches, and cooler evenings bring excitement, but for many kids, the season also carries pressure. New classes, homework, and shifting social circles can stir up more than just nerves. For some children, these changes spark anxiety that lingers long after the school bell rings.
If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone. National surveys show that about one in six teens today are managing anxiety, and nearly 11% of children ages three through seventeen have been diagnosed with an anxiety disorder. That’s more than five million children nationwide. Researchers also note that anxiety is rising fastest in middle and high school, when social pressures and academics collide. In fact, a 2024 study found that teens spending more than four hours a day on screens were significantly more likely to report symptoms of anxiety, largely due to disrupted sleep and fewer healthy outlets.
Listening Matters
As parents, it’s tempting to want to fix every worry, but often the most powerful tool is simply listening. Children feel lighter when they know their concerns are heard.
Asking about the hardest part of their day, or letting them share what they’re nervous about, can be enough to ease the weight. Even if they don’t have all the words yet, your willingness to listen communicates one thing clearly: you’re not alone in this.
Creating Breathing Space
Our culture is built on constant motion, and kids get swept up in that same “go, go, go” cycle. Between school, sports, and screens, there’s little room to rest. Yet research continues to show that kids need downtime to reset their bodies and brains. In practice, this doesn’t mean elaborate schedules or perfectly curated activities. It can be as simple as painting at the kitchen table, curling up with a book from the Waco-McLennan County Library, or running off steam on the trails at Cameron Park. Even small shifts toward slower, unstructured moments help children detach from the day’s pressure.
Modeling Calm
Children often mirror the way we respond to stress. If they see us shutting down or avoiding every hard situation, they may learn to do the same. But when they watch us acknowledge stress, take a breath, and move forward, they absorb those strategies for themselves. It doesn’t require perfection it requires honesty. Saying, “I’m stressed, so I’m going to step outside for a walk,” teaches more about resilience than pretending everything is fine.
Mindfulness, Simplified
Mindfulness can sound intimidating, but for kids, it often looks like small, everyday resets. A sixty-second pause to breathe slowly, count to ten, or notice the world around them can calm a racing heart and bring them back

Knowing When to Reach Out
Most children will experience ups and downs, but if worries begin to interfere with school, sleep, or friendships, extra support may be needed. Pediatricians, school counselors, and local therapists are valuable partners in helping children build healthier ways to cope. The earlier families reach out, the more effective support tends to be.
Finding Balance This Fall Autumn is always a season of change. For children, that change can feel exhilarating or overwhelming or both at once. While we can’t erase every stressful moment, we can guide them through it. By listening well, making room for unhurried moments, modeling calm, and encouraging small mindfulness practices, parents give their children the confidence to face anxiety without being defined by it.
And maybe that’s the gift of this season in Waco: a chance to slow down, walk the Brazos together, curl up with a library book, or share cocoa after a game. In those simple, grounding moments, kids learn that while stress may come and go, they’ll never have to face it alone.
