Ourprimarygoalistoremoveobstaclesforallwomenin thetruckingindustry.Forinstance,unconsciousbiasin hiringandpromoting,learning,andimpostersyndrome tendencies—infemaleCEOs.Assafetyisapriorityfor drivers,weworkwithtruckstopsonsafetyandsecurityand partnerwithtruckmanufacturersontruckcabdesign, ergonomics,andsafety.Wealsohaveseveralpublications forourcorporatemembers,suchasananti-harassment employmentguideandarecruitingandretention publication,ensuringbestpractices.Currently,weare workingonaDiversityandInclusionindex.

How did you start your journey with Women In Trucking?

Duringtheinitialphasesoftheorganization,Ihadtowork hardtoproveourviabilityandinfluentialcapability.WhenI foundedtheorganization,therewasonlyoneemployee,and Icontinuedtoworkforatruckingcompanytomaintainan income.Morerecently,Ihiredanassociationtomanagethe dailyoperationsoftheorganization.Altogether,wemanage allaspectsofthenon-profit—fromcommunicationto membershipservices,renewals,andresources.

Aswegrew,Ihiredpeoplewhocouldpresideovertasks thatIwasn'tinterestedindoingordisliked.Whilemost non-profitsstruggletomakeitthroughduringtheirinitial years,weaccumulated500membersinourfirstyear,which pivotedoursuccess.Presently,wehaveoveradozenteam membersspecializinginareassuchasmembership,social media,technology,strategy,andmore.Icanfocuson workingwiththeboardofdirectorsandcontinueoutreach throughspeakingevents,presentations,andwriting.

THE TRUCKING INDUSTRY HAS MANY OPPORTUNITIES FOR WOMEN, FROM DRIVING TRUCKS, FIXING TRUCKS, SELLING OR BUYING OR OWNING TRUCKS TO MARKETING OR OTHER ROLES. THERE ARE SO MANY GREAT CAREER OPTIONS IN TRUCKING!

What are your roles and responsibilities as the CEO?

Beingthefounder,Iamalsothefaceoftheorganization, andmypassionisthereasonmanypeoplewanttobeapart ofourmovement.Overtheyears,Ihavebecomeamore confidentleader.My"hands-off"leadershipstylehasserved uswellinourfourteenyears,asweareavirtual organizationwithteammemberslocatedallovertheUnited States.

Asavisionary,myleadershipstylereflectsmydesireto envisionabetterworkenvironmentinthefuture.Myteam helpsmeaccomplishmyvisions.Idependonthemto suggestwaystobringchangesintheindustryasIamnota detail-orientedperson.WhenIhiresomeone,Iprovide themampleautonomyandallowthemthelibertyto scheduletheirwork.Timeoffisnotmonitoredaseach personisresponsibleforthetimelycompletionofprojects andactivities.

What are some of your notable achievements throughout your entrepreneurial journey?

In2012,IwashonoredbytheWhiteHouseasa TransportationInnovatorsChampionofChange.Iwas awardedtheFrankW.BabbittawardfromtheWisconsin MotorCarriersAssociationin2014—anannualrecognition giventoanindividualwhohasdemonstratedoutstanding servicetothetruckingindustryandassociationasawhole. IhavealsobeentherecipientoftheSkinnerHumanitarian awardwhichispresentedannuallytoatruckingadvocatein mystate.

In2015,Ireceivedthe“DistinguishedAlumnaoftheYear” awardfrommyalmamaterandwasalsonamedoneof Supply&DemandChainExecutivesmagazine's“2016 ProstoKnow,”whichhonorsselectsupplychain executiveswhoareleadinginitiativestohelptheirclients, companies,orthesupplychaincommunityatlargeto prepareforthesignificantchallengesintheyearahead.

Ireceivedaseriesofrecognitionin2019.Ofthese,being namedthe“CinderellatoCEOoftheYear”—which recognizeswomenwhohaveovercomeobstaclestochange businesses,communities,andindustriesforthebetter—was thenotableone.In2021,Iwasappointedtoatwo-year termontheFederalMotorCarrierSafetyAdministration's MotorCarrierSafetyAdvisoryCommittee.
