The Shawangunk Wine Trail Three Tastings, Family Owned Wineries and The Oldest Vineyard in America

New

Did you know that the Hudson Valley has a heritage of French wine making that dates back over 300 years? Today you’ll explore the Shawangunk Wine Trail, a collection of unique wineries dotting the western side of the Hudson River. Each of these local wineries still follow the tradition of the fine winemaking brought to America by the early French Huguenot settlers in the 1700’s. The first stop will be the Benmarl Winery, the oldest vineyard in the United States. A member of the family that owns the vineyard will take our group on a private tour of the vineyard to learn about grape-growing and the wine making process, including a visit to the cellar to discover how grapes are crushed and fermented into wine. After the tour, our guide will lead us in a tasting of six red and white wines. After building your appetite this morning, you’ll enjoy lunch at Raccoon Saloon, a local favorite housed inside an historic building dating to the mid-1800’s featuring spectacular views of the Hudson River and Marlboro Waterfalls. The toasts continue at Glorie Farm Winery where you’ll meet Mary Ellen Glorie, owner of the vineyard and surrounding orchards. Learn about the farm, how the Glorie’s began the vineyard, the lifestyle of a vintner in today’s world and more. Taste five of their red and white wines in a private tasting area exclusively reserved for our guests. Finish the day at the Warwick Valley Winery and Distillery with a tasting of six wines and a visit to their distillery, where gin and other spirits are made. Sample one of their fruit brandies and witness the distilling process. Take home a complimentary, souvenir wine glass and shop for farmfresh baked goods and produce from Warwick’s orchard, market and bakery.
