esly Jean came in as a substitute in the second half and he immediately scored the equaliser, but it wasn’t enough as the Bahamas men’s national soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 tie against Anguilla in their CONCACAF Nations League match. The defensive battle between two winless teams at the Thomas A Robinson National Stadium last night saw both teams break their scoring drought, but none could seal the win even after they had an extra two minutes at the end of the 45-minute first half and four minutes added at the end of regulation at the 90th minute. After getting whitewashed by Belize 4-0 on the road September 7 and 6-0 at home against Antigua and Barbuda on October 12, Bahamas head coach Dion Godet

Williams, Dubois win Bahamas Half Marathon By BRENT STUBBS Senior Sports Reporter bstubbs@tribunemedia.net BAHAMAS national marathon record holder Oneil Williams will be happy to return to continue his training in Kenya and stay home mom Pascale Dubois is just as excited to head back to Canada with their hefty cash prize of $5,000 as the overall male and female winner of the Bahamas Roadmasters’ sixth annual Bahamas Half Marathon. The duo earned the incentive at the early riser event on Sunday that started and finished at Arawak Cay after taking the competitors on a course along West Bay Street. In addition to the half marathon, competitors also got a chance to participate in a 10K won by Andrew Hepburn and Grand Bahamian Delicia Boothe and a 5K that saw Justin Higgs and Jolise Newbold emerged as the victors. Competitors also got a chance to form relay teams to compete in the event. Home since Monday to prepare for the event, Williams said his goal was just simply to be the first Bahamian finisher. He was even
more elated to secure the overall title and the pay cheque after he posted his winning time of one hour, 13 minutes and 30 seconds. “I felt pretty good, but at some point of the race, I felt really tired, like my body just wanted to break down,” he said. “I came home with the win and that is most important. All of the guys tried to get out in the first mile, but I separated myself from them and extended the lead. “By the time I got down to Sun Fun, I already had a substantial lead and I tried to hold it coming back. By the time I reached Goodman’s Bay, I just relaxed because I didn’t have no one in sight. The closest person was Latrel from Grand Bahama. He ran a pretty good race. I thought they would have had more foreigners in the race, but that wasn’t the case.” Without any sponsorship for his training in Kenya, Williams said the prize money will definitely help to defray some of the expenses he has incurred as he leans towards his retirement from the sport in January. He wants to prepare to come back home to go out with a

Miller-Uibo threw her endorsement for the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations elections on Saturday behind incumbent secretary general Drumeco Archer, who will be seeking the post of president. Although Miller-Uibo is unable to vote, she said for what it’s worth, she is endorsing Archer for the top spot when he takes on incumbent president Rosamunde Carey, who is coming off an historic term in office as the first female to head the country’s top-fledged sporting organisation. “I decided to endorse him and his slate after seeing his concern for the athletes and their well-being,” Miller-Uibo told The Tribune over the weekend, becoming the first

TROUBLE BREWING IN BAAA? By BRENT STUBBS Senior Sports Reporter bstubbs@tribunemedia.net IT seems as if the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations could be facing some legal matters that will need to be resolved before the election of officers takes place on Saturday morning. The Tribune has received papers that were presented to a special call meeting of the executives on Monday, November 12 at the Thomas A Robinson Track and Field Stadium, which showed that the BAAA was incorporated as a company on April 10, 2014 and lodged with the Registrar General Department on July 29, 2013. Further, it was stated that “we, the person whose names and addresses are subscribed hereunder, are desirous of being formed into an Association in pursuance of this Memorandum of Associations,” as signed by immediate past president Mike Sands and Philippa Willie. The documents were said to have been prepared by Drumeco Archer, the BAAA secretary general, who will be vying for the post of president during the elections on Saturday. Efforts to contact the various individuals involved proved fruitless. Incumbent BAAA president Rosamunde Carey also was unavailable for comments.

bring to the table. “From looking at their slate, everyone seems to have been in the BAAA administration before or constantly around the sport,” she said. “I know all of the candidates on Mr Archer’s team and I have had the pleasure with working with all of them in the past.” Miller-Uibo, 24, is the country’s premier athlete who is in the running for the IAAF Female Athlete of the Year to be announced live on stage at the IAAF Athletics Awards 2018 in Monaco on Tuesday, December 4 after going through an undefeated season this year. She said if elected, she expects Archer and his team to

athlete to openly express herself in the media, although male quartermiler Steven Gardiner and female high hurdler Pedrya Seymour have expressed their support on social media. “In my dealings with him, he seems to have a good heart and is fair. He is always checking with the athletes to find out how their training is going and how can he assist if possible. He simply cares about the athletes.” It’s no secret that Miller-Uibo and her camp had some problems with Carey and some of her executives during her administration. When asked what she sees different in Archer and his ‘Be The Goat’ slate, Miller-Uibo said it’s the wealth of experience that they
