Buddy scores 24 in loss to the Raptors SACRAMENTO, California (AP) — Buddy Hield scored 24 points, including three 3-pointers, and dished out three assists but it wasn’t enough as the Toronto Raptors beat the Sacramento Kings 114-105 on Wednesday night. Hield, in 36 minutes on the hardwood, also had a steal and four rebounds. Raptors small forward Kawhi Leonard had 25 points and 11 rebounds in his return from an ankle injury, Pascal Siakam scored 21, Serge Ibaka had 14 and 14 rebounds, and Kyle Lowry added 16 points and eight assists. “This isn’t our ceiling,” Leonard said. “With me not even knowing some of the offence, we have Kyle in the game most of the time. Once I start learning the offence, I can give him a little break and let him get some easier shots. I don’t really know the offence in and out yet.” Toronto has won five straight since its lone loss this season at Milwaukee on October 29. The Raptors pulled away against the Kings despite 23 turnovers. “We were lucky to come out with this one,” Danny Green said. “You look up and down the line, the only thing we beat them in was rebounding. That’s a good sign for us, to show how good this team can be.” Leonard sat out the previous two games and got off to a sluggish start early against the Kings before helping Toronto pull away. The two-time All-Star scored 10 points in the second quarter and 10 in the third, including a soaring, one-handed dunk through traffic. Leonard also made a pivotal 3-pointer in the fourth after Sacramento had pulled to 106-99. “He was a little rusty at the start but

Willie Cauley-Stein scored 24 points for Sacramento. De’Aaron Fox added 20 points, and second overall draft pick

Marvin Bagley III had 13. The Kings have lost two straight since winning five in a row. “They don’t make a lot of mistakes and they tortured us for the mistakes that we did make,” Sacramento coach Dave Joerger said. “They did a good job of bottling us up.” Toronto ended the first quarter on a 15-4 run, then

took control once Leonard got going in the second after Sacramento got in foul trouble. Leonard made five free throws in the period, one coming after a frustrated Joerger was called for a technical foul for arguing with officials. Leonard also had a 3-pointer that put the Raptors up 49-40.

Green added back-toback 3s, and OG Anunoby followed with a steal and dunk as Toronto took a 64-51 halftime lead.

Jazz Chisholm hits his third home run in AFL By RENALDO DORSETT Sports Reporter rdorsett@tribunemedia.net JAZZ Chisholm just missed out on the final roster spot in the Arizona Fall League All-Star Game, but he continues being one of the league’s top home run hitters despite limited opportunities. Chisholm hit his third home run of the AFL and second in as many games, an 8-7 loss for his Salt River Rafters to the Peoria Javelinas.

He finished 2-5 with two runs scored and one RBI. In just seven games, the 20-yearold shortstop is hitting .438 with a 1.236 OPS, .455 OBP and slugging .781. He has three home runs, two doubles, five stolen bases and scored 11 runs. Chisholm is tied for third in the league in home runs despite appearing in just seven games. Contrastingly, the players atop the leaderboard Scottsdale’s Peter Alonso and Peoria’s Braxton Davidson both hit five home runs in 22 and 13 games respectively. The No.2 ranked prospect in the Arizona Diamondbacks organisation has hit safely in each of his games thus far, including five multi-hit games. “My organisation already told me to just come here and work on a better approach to the plate and just stay within myself and not trying to overswing,” he told MLB. com. “It’s kind of hard to stay on top of your game but you go to practice and get your reps in all the time, just keep on working in

staying within myself at the plate and on top of my game.” During the regular season, between the Single-A Kane County Cougars and the SingleA Advanced Visalia Rawhide, Chisholm hit .272 with 23 doubles, six triples, 25 home runs and 70 RBI. “Just slow it down, slow everything down, don’t try and do too much. That was basically the difference between the Midwest League and the California League for me. “The ball travelled a little more, so it’s a better hitters’ league, so I didn’t have to swing as hard as I was swinging in the Midwest League. I went to the California League and took a little bit off it, controlled my swing a little better,” he told MLB’s Johnathan Mayo. “I do it in BP now and I’m still hitting balls out to centre. I just tell myself, ‘no need to swing out of your shoes. Just try and hit line drives and then go.’ Just trust the process like everybody’s been telling me and that’s all I’ve been doing, is trusting the process.”
