Davis flies to States for COVID treatment By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net
PROGRESSIVE Liberal Party leader Philip “Brave” Davis was airlifted to the United States for COVID19 treatment yesterday. Meanwhile Central and South Eleuthera MP Hank Johnson has also tested positive for the disease and is in hospital in New Providence. “The last few days have been especially difficult for so many Bahamians,” Mr Davis said in a statement released by the PLP. “Please stay safe and look out for one another. Let’s continue to take care of ourselves, our neighbours, and our families. “As many of you know,
my daughter Philippa is a very senior doctor in the United States. She would like me to be close by as I complete my treatment. “After a family discussion, I have decided to fly to a hospital in the United States. I wish to thank the doctors and nurses and all the support staff at Doctors Hospital, who have looked after me so well. “I am in close contact with colleagues and friends and will continue to monitor what is happening in our country. “I pray God’s continued blessings on us all. I miss you all and look forward to being with you again soon,” Mr Davis’ statement noted. PLP deputy leader
By TANYA SMITH-CARTWRIGHT ts-cartwright @tribunemedia.net FREE National Movement chairman Carl Culmer dismissed speculation of friction in Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis’ Cabinet due to the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic. The FNM chairman responded to claims on social media and from a Tribune source, which he “chalks up” to nothing more than mere political mischief. “There are persons out
there trying to create mischief in the FNM,” Mr Culmer said. “They realise that the only way to get the PLP back in power is to create mischief in the FNM. I talk to Cabinet ministers just about every day. I have a constant rapport with them and I have heard nothing from them that says they are not in agreement with what the prime minister is doing. “None of the Cabinet ministers have told me they are resigning. People are creating mischief and that’s SEE PAGE FOUR

BUSINESS OWNERS PLAN PROTEST MARCH CAT 1 STORM EXPECTED TO HIT IN NORTH By NEIL HARTNELL Tribune Business Editor nhartnell@tribunemedia.net
PERMISSION is being sought for a “business survival march” to draw attention to the plight of entrepreneurs who fear their firms “might not last beyond September” with the present COVID restrictions. Mark A Turnquest, the small business consultant who is organising a march
that aims to attract 100 business owners, told Tribune Business yesterday that up to 75 percent of his clients and other entrepreneur contacts feel they cannot last for more than one month if lockdowns and restrictions remain in place. Confirming that he had already applied to police commissioner Paul Rolle to stage the march on Friday, September 4, between Arawak Cay and Parliament Square and back
again, Mr Turnquest said the level of “stress” many businesses - especially those deemed non-essential by the Government - are suffering had persuaded many to take part despite fears it would be seen as political. Mr Turnquest said those involved planned to present “a business recovery” document to the government covering 10 industries once the event was over.

BRENNEN: I’M NOT RESIGNING MY POST By TANYA SMITH-CARTWRIGHT ts-cartwright @tribunemedia.net
DEPUTY Chief Medical Officer Dr Delon Brennen has denied social media claims that he submitted a notice of intention to resign. Speaking briefly with The Tribune yesterday, a tightlipped Dr Brennen said he was busy working. A post was circulated
DR DELON BRENNEN on Wednesday night on social media by a local website operator, alleging Dr
Brennen had given notice of his resignation due to concerns about the handling of the pandemic. When The Tribune contacted Dr Brennen yesterday, he only said: “Unfortunately, I am a bit busy. But I have not submitted ‘notice of intention to resign’…I think that’s what it (the social media post) said.” Dr Brennen is a part of the country’s COVID-19
