LEADING US BY THEIR EXAMPLE The Tribune witnesses police officers defying restaurant lockdown rule By TRIBUNE REPORTER DESPITE Emergency Powers Orders that prohibit the opening of restaurants in New Providence, people - including Royal Bahamas Police Force officers - have been patronising a popular eatery on the island. When The Tribune arrived at Getaway Restaurant and Lounge yesterday in the Golden Gates Plaza we witnessed police officers arriving at the eatery and leaving with bags of food. Before this a police vehicle with several officers inside was seen leaving

Getaway with food. At one point, The Tribune entered the local eatery and ordered several dishes and a few drinks which the employee was happy to serve. The menu included fried pork chop, fried chicken, fish fingers either to be served with French fries or salad. Several dinners were also available. Liquor and other alcoholic beverages were also seen displayed on the restaurant’s wall. However, it is not clear whether the beverages were on sale. SEE PAGE TWO

A BAHAMIAN businessman yesterday revealed he has reached “boiling point” over the “inequality” that is allowing some competitors to open amid the COVID-19 lockdown while he and others remain closed. VIRUS FORCES CLOSURE OF GOVT OFFICES AS CASES PASS 1,000 By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net THE Bahamas reached the grim milestone of more than 1,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases yesterday as government offices continued to shut down after exposure to the virus. The forty-seven new cases include a single-day record 40 for New Providence. There were also five cases confirmed on Cat Island, one on Abaco and one on Exuma. New Providence has recorded 144 confirmed cases in the last week. Cabinet Office announced that the Ministry of Health headquarters on Meeting Street was shut down for deep cleaning and

Cabinet Office also announced that the administrative building at the northern compound and the security office of the Ministry of Public Works were closed for cleaning and sanitisation. Meanwhile, the Public Hospitals Authority announced in a statement that yesterday at 12 its corporate offices, including buildings A and B, were closed for deep cleaning and sanitisation with operations to resume at 9am on Monday.
