PRISON officers thwarted an escape plot by two inmates at the Bahamas Department of Correctional Services on Friday. Two inmates had reportedly been attempting to cut a hole in the concrete ceiling above their cell over a period of time before they were caught. Minister of National Security Marvin Dames yesterday said preliminary investigations did
not indicate the men were assisted by officers. He also declined to reveal the object used by inmates to damage the ceiling. AUTHORITIES have questioned a former Urban Renewal official as part of an ongoing investigation by the Royal Bahamas Police Force’s Anti-Corruption Unit. Officer-in-charge of the unit, Assistant Commissioner of Police Paul Rolle confirmed the former official had been interrogated. However, ACP Rolle declined further comment citing the sensitivity of the matter. The person was questioned on Thursday but released a short time later, The Tribune was told. TWO men are dead following separate homicides in the capital and Grand Bahama over the weekend. The incidents have taken the country’s murder count to 60 for the year, according to The Tribune’s records. In the first incident, according to reports, police were called to Abner Street, Fox Hill after gunshots were heard coming from a residence shortly before 5am on Saturday. Officers discovered an adult male lying on the floor of his home with apparent gunshot injuries to his body. Paramedics visited the scene but were unable to revive the victim. He was pronounced dead.
