Group members said they felt a “profound sense of loss” that they will not get to entertain fans on Bay Street in the traditional fashion – with co-chair Kendenique CampbellMoss telling The Tribune yesterday they had been
looking forward to defending their crowns as the reigning Boxing Day and New Year’s Day champions. Instead, she said that extensive consultation had been going on with the government, and she and other Junkanoo officials expect an announcement soon that the parades will be different from what Bahamians are accustomed to because of COVID-19. “All the plans and preparations have come to an end,” she said. “If you see something happening, that’s going to be a virtual thing to keep momentum going but

SOME 90 percent of Bahamas Power & Light customers facing disconnection remain in danger of having their electricity cut-off as the utility seeks to recover a $46m debt. Data provided to Tribune Business yesterday by the company showed that just 1,311 residential and commercial customers, out of 12,446 threatened with disconnection, have either settled their arrears or worked out a mutuallyacceptable payment plan. This means some 11,135 customers are now susceptible to having their electricity cut off.

Mr Duff, from the Insurance Company of The Bahamas, said the industry needed to explore the development of an alternative “product” that would provide some degree of hurricane protection and ensure they did not drop coverage altogether.
