What about my wedding day?
Bride’s anger at calling off her big day when PM gave other ceremonies go-ahead By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net A BRIDE-TO-BE is upset that she cancelled her wedding to comply with COVID-19 rules only to learn that Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis exempted two couples from regulations limiting the number of wedding attendees to five. The Office of the Prime Minister released a statement last night after photos and videos of a wedding at the Coral Sands resort in
Harbour Island went viral. The wedding had more than five attendees, featured a Junkanoo performance and appeared to have guests who did not strictly follow social distancing protocols. The Office of the Prime Minister said in a statement: “The competent authority granted permission for two pre-planned weddings with more than five in attendance to be held over the weekend lockdown, provided that proper COVID-19 mitigation protocols were adhered to.
THE government is continuing to “recalibrate” its COVID-19 travel protocols to give Bahamians “substantial protection without absolutely strangling tourism”, Attorney General Carl Bethel said yesterday. “Everybody coming into the country, however they come in, has to have a negative COVID-19 test
By FARRAH JOHNSON Tribune Staff Reporter fjohnson@tribunemedia.net A MOTHER and daughter who contracted COVID-19 while abroad broke quarantine rules when they returned to Grand Bahama and subsequently infected eight other people with the disease, according to Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Delon Brennen. His revelation during a Ministry of Health press conference on Friday renewed concerns about the enforcement of quarantine rules as the country battles a surge of COVID-19 cases. Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis announced on April 27 that people who breach quarantine rules could be fined $20,000 or be imprisoned for five years.

THE Bahamas recorded 16 new cases of COVID-19 yesterday, including ten on Grand Bahama and five on New Providence. Exuma recorded its first case of the virus as well: a 27-year-old woman whose travel history was not disclosed. This comes after ten new cases were confirmed on Saturday: six on New Providence and four on Grand Bahama. Three hundred and forty two cases of COVID-19 have been recorded to date. The new cases in New Providence include four women ages 27, 88, 72 and 29 and one 72-year-old man.
and health visa, and if they come by commercial airline they have to go into quarantine because there are too many people and we cannot keep an eye on them,” he said. “The orders are being reworded in a way that we think will be able to capture everybody. The actual terms have not yet been settled because there’s some dialogue going on with the health professionals.”

NEW LOCKDOWN MAY BE ‘ECONOMIC SUICIDE’
By NEIL HARTNELL Tribune Business Editor nhartnell@tribunemedia.net
BAHAMIAN retailers were divided over the reimposition of weekend lockdowns with one branding it akin to “economic suicide” while others backed the move. Egan Kemp, president of Eunison Company, the Shoe Depot parent, said the government response to the latest surge in COVID-19 cases was “actually making
PRIME Minister Hubert Minnis the situation worse by choking off” the little economic activity that is taking place.
Arguing that COVID-19 could remain a threat for years, Mr Kemp warned that The Bahamas must learn to live with the virus otherwise the country will have “no economy” left. However, Andrew Wilson, Quality Business Centre’s principal, said Prime Minister Hubert Minnis had made the right call by reimposing restrictions, adding: “I’d rather lose a weekend than a lifetime.” FULL STORY - SEE BUSINESS
