Union fury over sabotage claim Allegations are ‘cover up’ for failing systems By MORGAN ADDERLEY Tribune Staff Reporter madderley@tribunemedia.net PRINCESS Margaret Hospital has suspended non-emergency surgeries this week while it investigates a suspected sabotage attack. Health Minister Dr Duane Sands yesterday declined to comment on what led to the suspicion of sabotage of the hospital’s chilling and air-conditioning systems. However, Bahamas Public Services

Union president Kimsley Ferguson, whose union represents the workers in the engineering department, was adamant his union will take “legal action” should its workers again be falsely accused of tampering with the systems. Mr Ferguson also alleged the claims of sabotage are a “cover up”, as the hospital should have replaced those units years ago. Both Dr Sands and Mr Ferguson made these comments in interviews with The Tribune SEE PAGE FIVE

LOAD shedding is expected to continue in parts of New Providence this week as demand for electricity peaks, a Bahamas Power and Light spokesperson confirmed yesterday. With power cuts occurring this year as far back as mid-April and regular

load shedding since June 19, BPL has been unable to definitively say when the situation is expected to get better. However, the only things consumers have learned to expect are frequent power cuts. Calling this a crisis, Bishop Simeon Hall urged BPL to “fix the light before darkness causes someone’s death”. SEE PAGE THREE

POST OFFICE DEAL ‘WRAPPED IN LIES’ By KHRISNA RUSSELL Deputy Chief Reporter krussell@tribunemedia.net

OPPOSITION leader Philip “Brave” Davis has called for Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis’ resignation insisting his administration’s handling of the General Post Office’s move to the Town Centre Mall has been overshadowed by falsehoods. The Progressive Liberal Party leader further questioned whether former

PLP leader Philip Davis Cabinet minister Brent Symonette, who is part owner of the mall, solely

re-entered politics to acquire a lease agreement with the government for this building. Mr Symonette, St Anne’s MP, resigned from Cabinet earlier this month. Mr Davis contended that along every step of the way the government gave information regarding the post office that did not paint a true picture of the situation. He said by now, the prime minister should have already spoken publicly to
