‘Where are they all going to live?’ Davis demands - what now for shanty families By KHRISNA RUSSELL Deputy Chief Reporter krussell@tribunemedia.net LABOUR Minister Dion Foulkes’ admission that there will most likely be challenges finding rental properties in Abaco for evicted shanty town residents proves there is a lack of planning and vision by the government, according to Official Opposition Leader Philip “Brave” Davis yesterday. The Progressive Liberal Party’s leader said when it comes to cracking down on shanty towns, the government has only sought to say
the things Bahamians might want to hear without regard to actually carrying out the plan effectively. On Saturday, Mr Foulkes told The Tribune with only few rentals available in Abaco, efforts could be complicated. He spoke shortly after the Shanty Town Action Task Force completed assessments on that island. Responding to questions from this newspaper on the matter, Mr Davis suggested he has yet to understand the full gambit of the government’s plans when it comes to the shanty town issue. SEE PAGE FIVE

His claim was nonetheless corroborated to The Tribune by people familiar with the matter. This newspaper was unable to discuss the issue with BAIC Chairman Michael Foulkes, however, despite multiple WhatsApp messages and repeated SEE PAGE SIX
By RICARDO WELLS Tribune Staff Reporter rwells@tribunemedia.net PRIME Minister Dr Hubert Minnis’ decision to reassign four Cabinet portfolios earlier this week may open the door to several new initiatives and policies within those respective ministries in the coming months. Addressing the reassignments, both Frankie Campbell, now the minister of social services and urban development, and Renward Wells, now the minister of transport and local government, insisted they had no issue with the surprising move. Particularly, Mr Wells told reporters the shuffle was to the credit of Dr Minnis, for his ability to assemble a team capable of handling such a move. “At the end of the day, I think you would have seen that all of us, the four of us would have been moved, and we were moved very quickly,” he said in response to questions raised over the SEE PAGE SIX
