‘GOVT TARGETING FNM MP GIBSON’ Police seize rental vehicles belonging to party’s Long Island representative By LEANDRA ROLLE Tribune Staff Reporter lrolle@tribunemedia.net OPPOSITION Leader Michael Pintard has accused the Davis administration of targeting former Water and Sewerage executive chairman Adrian Gibson, after several rental vehicles belonging to Mr Gibson were allegedly seized on Long Island as part of a police investigation. When contacted yesterday, Assistant Commissioner of Police Leamond Deleveaux
confirmed that officers were in Long Island conducting investigations concerning WSC. However, he would not confirm whether police had taken several of Mr Gibson’s rental vehicles into custody. Further, he would not say whether the Long Island MP was being investigated. But sources familiar with the matter told The Tribune yesterday that some of Mr Gibson’s vehicles were seized by police last week. SEE PAGE THREE
NEWLY appointed Bahamas Power and Light chief executive officer Shevonn Cambridge last night defended his new appointment, insisting that all necessary protocols were followed before he assumed the senior role at the power company. Last week, BPL announced Mr Cambridge, the former director of utilities and
energy at the Utilities Regulation and Competition Authority’s (URCA), as the power provider’s new CEO. The move came weeks after former BPL CEO Whitney Heastie and human resources director Evis Missick resigned from the company. However, questions have been raised about the “objectivity” of BPL’s decision given Mr Cambridge’s background. SEE PAGE FIVE

SUNK BY RECORD RAINFALL
A CAR swallowed up in flood water over the weekend as a record amount of rainfall hit New Providence. See PAGE TWO for more photographs. Photo: Racardo Thomas/Tribune Staff By PAVEL BAILEY THERE was a record 12.37 inches of rainfall on Saturday as the western part of New Providence experienced serious flooding sparked by torrential downpour. Wayne Neely, a veteran weather forecaster, in a post on Facebook over the weekend said the rain resulted in hurricane level flooding throughout the western part of New
Providence including the areas of Cable Beach, West Bay Street and Coral Harbour. In explaining the significance of the flooding, which left several cars stalled out on the road, Mr Neely said that it is not unusual for rain in May but this level of rainfall is unprecedented, with the average rainfall for the month only hitting around six inches. Basil Dean, former
deputy director in the Meteorology Department, echoed Neely’s sentiments that this was a near record amount of rainfall in the nation’s capital. A resident of Cable Beach himself, Mr Dean described how he had to use water boots to get from his house to his vehicle and that his driveway’s concrete pyramids were under at least 12 inches of water.
