FIRST SIGNAL ELECTION ON?
By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net
THE Royal Bahamas Defence Force has asked its department heads to prepare “for the possibility of an early General Election” by providing a list of people who will vote in an advanced poll. The directive was contained in a memo that was signed by Acting Captain Shawn Adderley on April 29, 2021. RBDF Commodore Raymond King told The Tribune last night that the document was issued in response to a memo the RBDF received from the Parliamentary Registration
Department, the department that oversees elections in the country. The title of the memo is “Request for Listing of RBDF Marines Voting in the Advanced Poll for the Upcoming General Elections.” It reads: “Be advised that in preparation for the possibility of an early General Election, you are directed to provide a listing of all personnel in your purview voting in the Advanced Poll and forward the same to the Base Executive Officer’s office by Thursday 6 May, 2021.” “Accordingly, for ease of reference, included in the

Minnis’ “know it all” attitude because he is a doctor. Mr Davis, in speaking to journalists outside of the House of Assembly on Monday, noted that the Progressive Liberal Party warned the government about its practices regarding the pandemic, but their warnings fell on deaf ears. SEE PAGE FOUR

RESORTS WORLD OFFERS D’AGUILAR FRUSTRATED TO RUN BIMINI AIRPORT BY VACCINE HESITATION By NEIL HARTNELL Tribune Business Editor nhartnell@tribunemedia.net
BIMINI’S largest investor has submitted a $40m proposal that would see it transform and take over the management of that island’s airport, a senior government official revealed yesterday. Algernon Cargill, director of aviation, confirmed to Tribune Business that the Minnis Cabinet has given ‘approval in principle’ to enter into negotiations with the Genting Group
and Gerardo Capo’s RAV Bahamas, joint owners of Resorts World Bimini, over a public-private partnership (PPP) that will see the duo “redevelop, manage and operate” the island’s primary aviation gateway. “That’s at a very preliminary stage,” he said of talks that began around two months ago. “The Genting Group and RAV Bahamas are putting together their proposal so we can secure the formal Cabinet approval of the project.” FULL STORY - SEE BUSINESS

TOURISM Minister Dionisio D’Aguilar, pictured, says daily reports on the growing COVID-19 surge are making him “ever-more frustrated” with the “hesitancy” of many Bahamians to become vaccinated and aid economic revival. Mr D’Aguilar said he blamed “stupid, silly fake news” about the AstraZeneca vaccine’s effectiveness and alleged side effects for

dissuading Bahamians. Describing this as “quite worrying” amid the socalled COVID-19 third wave, which saw more than 1,200 new cases detected in April alone, he blasted: “Every day when I see these reports [of new infections], this adds greater frustration that the level of hesitancy is as high as it is. “Given the fact that cases are moving up, this should provide all the more incentive for people to get vaccinated.” FULL STORY - SEE BUSINESS
