WORK PERMIT CLAMPDOWN IN RESTAURANTS, CONSTRUCTION By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net LABOUR Director Robert Farquharson says his department has denied labour certificates in all restaurant manager applications and in the vast majority of applications for construction site supervisors and project managers since September, preventing the applicants from getting work permits. He pointed to the Central Bank launching the Sand Dollar as well as the government’s

recently released white paper on the future of digital assets in The Bahamas as key strides the country was making in this arena. “Ladies and gentlemen, The Bahamas is not only open and ready for business, but moving to the forefront of this most exciting era of digital asset innovation. For generations, our people have developed a unique expertise as leading professionals in international financial services. ‘HOTEL IN DISGUISE’ TOLD TO STOP STANIEL CAY BUILDING By NEIL HARTNELL Tribune Business Editor nhartnell@tribunemedia.net THE Supreme Court this week extended the construction halt on a property at the centre of an escalating dispute between Staniel Cay homeowners over fears it is a boutique hotel development in disguise. Justice Neil Brathwaite, in a verdict on Tuesday upheld the recently-reinstated injunction barring developer Keith Doyle, and his DeepBlue Properties vehicle, from continuing to expand what he describes as a “family residence” and not the “Hotel Thunderball” that was originally proposed. While admitting in legal papers that a boutique hotel, named after the James Bond movie that filmed key scenes in the nearby Exuma cave system, was initially planned for the location, Mr Doyle said: “I have never submitted

SUPER Value principal Rupert Roberts yesterday backed calls to remove VAT from breadbasket foods as a means to ease the burden of soaring inflation. Mr Roberts said “I’d certainly agree” eliminating the 10 percent levy on products such as bread, rice, flour, butter and baby food/ formula would help lessen the pressure on low-income Bahamians.
