THE nation recorded 92 new COVID-19 infections over the holiday weekend — bringing the total number of cases to 9,263. Yesterday, the country’s top infectious disease expert said health officials are still “very much concerned” that The Bahamas could be on the brink of a third COVID-19 wave. Dr Nikkiah Forbes, director of the National

HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Programme at the Ministry of Health, told The Tribune it would be very concerning if the country continues on this trend as it could lead to the health system “being above capacity”. “If we continue on this trend then certainly we would be very concerned,” she said. “We know globally that there are many countries that are undergoing third

By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net TOURISM Minister Dionisio D’Aguilar said 60,000 non-residents bought travel health visas to visit the country in March, double the number that did so in December 2020. “I’m encouraged,” he said of the numbers. It is believed that the number of travel visas purchased roughly corresponds to the number of arrivals in the country.

The figure for March represents a 92 percent decline compared to arrivals in March 2019. Mr D’Aguilar said: “According to the health visa, which is different from who actually comes, in November 2020 there were 14,000 arrivals. In December 2020 there were 32,000 arrivals. There were 21,000 arrivals in January 2021 and 28,000 in February 2021.” “Sixty thousand in March is probably a good SEE PAGE FOUR

GUNNED DOWN PLAYING DOMINOES By FARRAH JOHNSON Tribune Staff Reporter fjohnson@tribunemedia.net

THE FAMILY of a man who was shot and killed while he was playing dominoes over the holiday weekend said although he had his challenges, nothing he had done could have justified the way he was killed. Dereck Rolle said his brother, Anthony Tyrone Rolle, 51, was at their usual family hangout spot

ANTHONY ROLLE on Sunday, when he was approached by a man he

knew who shot him in his stomach. “I heard the boy approach him but everyone thought he was a regular person with a mask and hat on,” he said. “When he reach so close, my brother said ‘Man do something for me man’ like they know one another, but the boy said ‘Yea I come to do something for you now’ before shooting him.” SEE PAGE THREE
