DAVIS: FOOD LEADER PAID $7K A MONTH PM keeps up attack on programmes during former administration By KHRISNA RUSSELL Tribune Chief Reporter krussell@tribunemedia.net

WHILE doubling down on criticism of the former Minnis administration, Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis said there were “disturbing” commonalities emerging from three separate investigations now underway that sparked great cause for concern. Speaking about the Minnis administration’s National Food Distribution Task Force, Mr Davis said

the programme’s chairperson, Mrs Susan Holowesko Larson, was paid a salary of $1,750 per week or about $7,000 a month. He told Parliament that it appeared the food programme did not have to give account for how its allocation of $53m was spent, adding that about nine percent or $4.7m of this amount had been reserved for administrative fees and start-up costs. He also referred to ongoing investigations into the SEE PAGE FOUR

MINNIS: THIS IS WORST EVER BUDGET STATEMENT By LEANDRA ROLLE Tribune Staff Reporter lrolle@tribunemedia.net

FORMER Prime Minister Dr Hubert Minnis last night slammed Prime Minister Phillip “Brave” Davis’ mid-year budget statement as the “worst” and “most empty” one ever, saying it lacked vision to transform the country’s ailing economy and help hurting Bahamians. Killarney MP Dr Minnis said since being elected to office, the Davis administration has only adopted policies that have created

more economic hardship for the Bahamian people and accused them of being “heartless”. “They attacked the food programme feeding the vulnerable and the hungry after his government put a ten percent hike on breadbasket items for those very same people. The prime minister and the PLP high command have very little feeling or heart for... Bahamians especially working families,” Dr Minnis said during his contribution to the mid-year budget yesterday. SWIMMING PIG ATTRACTION INGRAHAM CONFIDENT OF OPPONENTS CELEBRATE WIN MARITAL RAPE LEGISLATION By NEIL HARTNELL Tribune Business Editor nhartnell@tribunemedia.net

OPPONENTS of an Adelaide-based swimming pigs attraction yesterday hailed the Town Planning Committee for upholding “the rule of law” by denying its application to develop a bar and grill.

Leslie Vanderpool, a resident of Beach Drive where Beyond Da Village Pig Experience is located, said the decision sent a message to all developers and businesses that “people can’t operate like it’s the Wild Wild West” over the planning and zoning regulations. FULL STORY - SEE BUSINESS

By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net FORMER Prime Minister Hubert Ingraham is convinced the Davis administration will criminalise marital rape and solve gender inequality issues pertaining to Bahamian citizenship.

He said he told Prime Minister Philip “Brave” Davis during a meeting yesterday that his administration could demonstrate its commitment to reform by abandoning its appeal of Supreme Court Justice Ian Winder’s citizenship ruling that children born in The SEE PAGE THREE

‘WE WILL HAVE BAHAMIAN UB PRESIDENT’ By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net

EDUCATION Minister Glenys Hanna Martin distanced the Davis administration yesterday from the decision of the board of University of The Bahamas to appoint a non-Bahamian president of the institution, saying she expects that “in short order” a Bahamian will ascend to the top post. Former Prime Minister

DR ERIK ROLLAND Hubert Ingraham later criticised her in an interview with reporters, saying

the president should be the person that is best suited for the role regardless of nationality. Their comments came after UB board chair Allyson Maynard-Gibson announced on Tuesday that Dr Erik Rolland will be UB’s new president. One Bahamian, Dr Ian Strachan, had been shortlisted for that role and had the backing of the union that represents staff and faculty. SEE PAGE SEVEN
