Dr Minnis said he is confident that the majority of citizens will receive the vaccine, a catalyst for returning to normal. He believes this will be done
by May or June of this year. “I think what is amazing is soon as individuals had heard that I and others were being vaccinated, I was amused by the number of phone calls that I received at home,” he said when asked about his confidence in getting the majority of the population vaccinated. “Everywhere I stopped — I went to the supermarket this morning shopping and people SEE PAGE TWO
RECEIVERS FLAG CLAIM ON COURT PAYMENT TO SARKIS By NEIL HARTNELL Tribune Business Editor nhartnell@tribunemedia.net BAHA Mar’s receivers have threatened to claim any damages awarded to Sarkis Izmirlian if he wins his battle with China Construction America (CCA) so they can repay $1bn to the lender. Darach Haughey, the accountant appointed as one of the project’s three receivers, argued in a July 30, 2020, affidavit that
previous guarantees by the original developer and his Baha Mar Properties vehicle meant they “could be entitled to claim the proceeds of any judgment” Mr Izmirlian wins in the court. He based this on Baha Mar Properties pledging its shares in Baha Mar Ltd, the company ultimately placed into receivership, as security for the initial $2.45bn construction loan. AN off-duty police officer shot and killed a man who allegedly attacked him with a baseball bat in a parking lot on Friday night, the Royal Bahamas Police Force said. The incident took place after 10pm at a plaza on East Street South opposite Cox Way.

Initial reports from police said the off-duty officer was patronising an establishment in the plaza when he became an eyewitness to an ongoing altercation in the parking lot. The officer made an attempt to speak to the individual who was involved, police said, but the man then left and later returned with a baseball bat and struck the officer on his head and face several times.
