‘MALICIOUS LIES’

Forbes-Smith hits back saying she’s victim of abuse and fake stories By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net FORMER Disaster Reconstruction Authority managing director Katherine Forbes-Smith said a claim on social media that she sold a generator intended for Hurricane Dorian victims for personal profit is a “bold-faced, malicious lie.” Mrs Forbes-Smith recently filed a lawsuit against the government for alleged breach of contract. In a statement released yesterday, she said she has been attacked by “social media trolls” and is the victim of a “witch-hunt” which she thinks is designed to compel her to drop the legal action.

The generator claim was made on a social media site that is supportive of the Progressive Liberal Party. Mrs Forbes-Smith said in a statement: “For more than a week, an army of political operatives and social media trolls have continued to publicly and relentlessly drag my name through the mud in connection with a matter that is currently before the courts. I believe this to be a conscious and coordinated witch-hunt, designed to intimidate me into abandoning the proceedings. “This underhanded campaign has now culminated in a bold-faced, malicious lie.” SEE PAGE FIVE

DISASTER Reconstruction Authority Executive Chairman Alex Storr said UHY Bain & Associates, an accounting firm, will forensically audit the authority after an operational review found many signs of mismanagement. “What’s clear,” he said during an Office of the Prime Minister press conference on Friday, “is that the Disaster Reconstruction Authority, while a good thought and idea by the former administration, appears to have

been grossly mismanaged and hampered by poor execution, from the current internal structure, the extremely high salaries, the way contracts were negotiated, the apparent conflicts of interest and the lack of compliance of management of every project.” Mr Storr’s comments come after former DRA Managing Director Katherine Forbes-Smith filed a lawsuit seeking contractual damages for alleged breach of contract. Mrs ForbesSmith is seeking $408,333.16, including $238,333.16 for 26 months’ salary. SEE PAGE FIVE

THE government was yesterday said to be working with Club Med in a bid to ensure its San Salvador resort re-opens earlier than late 2022 and sparks “a 180degree turn” in the island’s economy. A spokesman for Prime Minister Philip Davis, in whose constituency the resort is located, confirmed that both the government and Club Med are working together in efforts to get the property operational before the latter’s October 2022 forecast. “It’s definitely on the table to get them to re-open earlier than October,” they said. “There are things that both sides must do but they are working towards it.” FULL STORY - SEE BUSINESS
