ATLANTIS MOVES QUICKLY TO FURLOUGH WORKERS By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net ATLANTIS will temporarily furlough some employees as COVID-19 cases continue to grow in North America and cancellations increase following US President Joe Biden’s announcement of a new quarantine requirement for travellers
entering the United States. In a letter to staff, the resort said it will scale operations, noting that beginning February 4 guest reservations at The Royal will move to The Cove “and some colleagues will be placed on temporary furlough”. “Our plan and hope are to invite team members back by the spring break
season, pending occupancy,” Atlantis President Audrey Oswell said in a letter to staff. “As the new year progresses, the overall business outlook for Atlantis is hopeful. However, for the immediate future, we face similar challenges as we have in the last months.” SEE PAGE FIVE
KAISER ASKS COURT TO RULE OVER $28M ‘FRAUD’ By NEIL HARTNELL Tribune Business Editor nhartnell@tribunemedia.net
SKY Bahamas’ former principal slammed as “garbage” yesterday’s bid by the airline’s main financier to obtain a default judgment against him over the alleged $28m “bogus loans conspiracy”. Captain Randy Butler and his attorney pledged
they would move swiftly to have the default judgment thrown out after Fred Kaiser and his attorney, Michael Scott, moved for such an award on the basis the ex-Sky chief failed to file a defence in time. Court documents reveal that Mr Kaiser and his companies, Alpha Aviation and Advanced Aviation, yesterday filed “a judgment in default of defence” against
Captain Butler, Sky Bahamas and Aviation Oversight Group (AOG). “No defence having been entered by the first through third defendants herein or any of them, it is this day adjudged that these defendants do pay to the plaintiffs damages together with interest and costs thereon to be assessed,” said the filing.

JOHNSON - I WAS THE VICTIM By RASHAD ROLLE Tribune Senior Reporter rrolle@tribunemedia.net
SOUTH and Central Eleuthera MP Hank Johnson broke his silence yesterday to say he expects a man who allegedly attacked him last week to be charged in the Magistrate’s Court with causing harm. Mr Johnson said he was attacked while leaving a
HANK JOHNSON MP private home in Coral Harbour on January 16. It was
his first public comment on the matter. He said in a statement yesterday that he reported the matter to the Airport Police Station and that officers subsequently arrested the man. He said he is the “victim” in the matter. “Every member of the public has the right to walk about in a safe and nonthreatening environment,” he said.
