Cultural Immersion and International Travel

SEHAH is committed to international educational and cultural exchange. Since its founding, SEHAH has coordinated its own study abroad program in the form of 2-weeks of international travel and cultural immersion. We have taken youth to Brazil, Mexico, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Senegal, South Africa, and other parts of the world. It is our belief that the world is a classroom, and we want our children to learn, first-hand, about the cultural diversity of the world. You can support our international travel in many ways. We encourage partnerships with schools, colleges, and universities, both in the United States and abroad. We also encourage you to sponsor a youth. Of course, donations are also encouraged and greatly appreciated. oursehah.org
M. Baba Shango

Baba Shango, the Founding Director, used self-defense, martial arts, and general fitness to help build self-esteem, and he used lessons from African American and Mexican American history and culture to nurture self-pride in the youth and families he served. A native of Galveston, Texas and longtime resident of Houston, M. Baba Shango passed away in 2017, but his legacy and the work of SEHAH continues through his son, Sundiata Shango.
Giving Back

SEHAH is currently seeking support in the form of volunteer services, donations, sponsorships, and partnerships. SEHAH is invested in our youth. We ask for your investment. The brief list below summarizes our main programs and activities. Get involved!
Homeschooling
SEHAH offers daily homeschooling, which includes academics, health and nutrition, physical education, and cultural enrichment. Support SEHAH’s homeschool by enrolling your children, volunteering your time, offering classes, or donating educational and enrichment supplies. You can also sponsor a current student!

History and Heritage Tours

As part of the homeschooling activities, SEHAH takes local and out of town field trips to visit cultural and historical sites. Most recently, students traveled to Tulsa, Oklahoma to learn about the history of Black Wall Street. Visit oursehah.org to see the full itinerary of tours scheduled for 2023. Support SEHAH’s history and heritage Tours by sponsoring a student, or simply donate funds to help with travel and lodging expenses.

Self-defense and Martial Arts

SEHAH emphasizes respect and discipline and offers youth self-defense and martial arts classes and workshops on-site—afterschool, weekends, and summer camps. They are also available for classes, workshops, and demonstrations at your school, religious institutions, and other venues. Support SEHAH by enrolling your child, sponsoring a child, or establishing partnerships with your school or organization.
Summer Camp
One of the hallmarks of SEHAH is the 8-week summer program. Much like the homeschooling program, their summer program combines academics, health and nutrition, physical education, and cultural enrichment. SEHAH also offers vocational classes and workshops, including carpentry, bicycle repair, landscaping, gardening, and sewing. Support SEHAH’s summer camp by volunteering time, teaching a class, sponsoring a youth, or by making a donation.
