Angelo Mangiarotti at CarraraMarmotec
An important exhibition organised by Il Sole 24 ORE Cultura in conjunction with CarraraFiere. Over one hundred pieces by the master of architecture and design who has always worked closely with Carrara and marble. During the fair the book on his life and works published by 24 ORE Cultura – Gruppo 24 ORE , Motta Architettura will be presented. The thirtieth CarraraMarmotec is the ideal opportunity to remember and celebrate Angelo Mangiarotti in a place where he worked for many years as an architect and designer. CarraraFiere, that always enjoyed close working relations with the great Milanese master, has gone the whole way and, in conjunction with 24 ORE Cultura – Gruppo 24 ORE, has organised an exhibition to show approximately one hundred pieces by Mangiarotti ranging from tables to ornaments in marble and crystal, from bookcases to building components. These are objects he created over his very long career during which time he was always very close to the town of Carrara and its leading companies that have contributed to the creation of prototypes that have almost always turned into serial productions. The exhibition will be opened on Wednesday 19 May during the CarraraMarmotec opening ceremony and will be set up in the Speech and Exhibition area in Hall E. “ It was a project that we took on with great pleasure together with sole 24 ORE Cultura – said Paris Mozzanti, CarraraFiere’s general manager – since our company worked for many years with Mangiarotti who belongs to that generation of Italian architects that have contributed to the creation and dissemination of a certain approach to objects of design that in the seventies was identified with the term Made in Italy. It is certainly not by chance that Mangiarotti designed the building that houses our offices,
considered a work of great value in modern architecture for its innovative use of marble. Back in 1999 the town of Carrara organised an exhibition of his marble sculpture, examples of which are now placed around the town and this is probably the best way to highlight the relationship between marble, design and great architecture. ”. The exhibition, a very simple exhibition over five hundred square metres, is an invitation to the viewer to walk through the short but impressive collection of objects of design by Angelo Mangiarotti, selected together with his daughter Anna, which show his skill at using the right techniques for the materials selected, thereby producing natural forms that express perfect unity between matter and form. His intuition in designing the famous “Sky Cone (Cono Cielo) (in the enclosed photo), which was then shown during large international exhibitions and is now placed at the entrance to the CarraraFiere exhibition centre, is the synthesis of an extensive knowledge of the material and the potential of technology applied to quality processing. In addition to the exhibition there will be the presentation of the book “Angelo Mangiarotti” published by 24 ORE Cultura – Gruppo 24 ORE, Motta Architettura on Thursday 20 May (4 pm, Speech and Exhibition area) with the participation of Marco Casamonti who edited the book. With a well selected collection of photographs the twohundred page book presents the complete works of this architect and designer considered to be one of the best of the nineteenth century. Following the opening speech by Giorgio Bianchini, CarraraFiere Chairman, the programme for the presentation of the book includes contributions from Giampaolo Benedini, Francois Burkhardt, Giuseppe De Giovanni, Anna Mangiarotti, Ingrid Paoletti, Marco Ragone and Carlo Terpolilli.
