LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Dear Catalyst of Hope,

This year was simultaneously challenging and sweet. We had to move out of Campus West, the building we called home for 14 years, by February 28, 2023. Imagine moving your house if it were actually 100,000 square feet and had items stored in nooks and crannies you didn’t even know were there! Even though it was “all hands on deck” for the move, words of a popular Toby Mac song resonated with the staff, “It’s been a long year; It almost took me down.”

However, the next line in the song is where we landed: “But when my world broke into pieces; You were there faithfully.” Our donors, sponsors and friends proved through this year to be most faithful, and we’re so grateful!

First, the City of Hurst provided space for our New Hope Center food pantry to continue to operate each week. Upon hearing our urgent space need, the city jumped in as a faithful partner with a quick solution to a very real need.

Then Board member Johnette van Eeden provided a suite in her office building for a few employees, a couple of volunteers, and a small meeting area. It is a blessing to have a Board member turn away paying tenants to be faithful to the mission of 6 Stones. This may seem small but having a homebase during a transition year is HUGE.

Another blessing is that Cross City Church allows us to take over some of their space each Monday where our full team can meet all day long. This has added some consistency and stability in a year ripe with significant change.

In June we broke ground on our new Home for Hope. At the groundbreaking, the Mabee Foundation shared they would DOUBLE their funding if 6 Stones raised an extra 160K. The challenge was met in only THREE DAYS after the announcement, releasing a

double blessing, essentially closing out the $7 million campaign. While we never had any doubt that the full amount would be paid for, donors showed up and proved yet again to be faithful.

These are only SOME of the things that were transpiring while ALL 6 Stones programs and events continued. Operation Back 2 School was at the Pat May Center, CPR was run out of the Hurst location, as was Night of Hope. All programs had operational challenges which the staff gracefully navigated.

The hardest program of all to run has been the New Hope Center. While we are incredibly thankful to have the space in Hurst, there are many challenges including air conditioning, heating, and safety issues. However, volunteers have shown up FAITHFULLY serving our neighbors in need. Because we had enough volunteers, we were able to expand Momentum and the LIGA HEB soccer league. LIGA added a fall season and players improved their GPA’s a full point from 2.1 to 3.1 compared to their peers. This should be celebrated!

Yes we had challenges, but the unwavering support from key stakeholders gave us the resiliency we needed. YOU, our faithful donors, volunteers and community partners have been here for us when we needed you most.

As we look to 2024, we are excited for our future. We will be moving into our big, beautiful, Home for Hope. We will have a permanent home, a safe space for our neighbors, in which we can help encourage and uplift them on their journey. In a year when we didn’t see a way, the Lord made a way. This has made us even more resilient than ever. Thank you for all you’ve done joining us on our mission “Sharing Hope through community mobilization.”

Blessings,

“ 6 STONES GAVE ME A NEW HOME. ”
- BILLIE
11

Billie, in her eighties, was recovering from the loss of her husband. He had beaten cancer after fighting it for ten years, but then fought Alzheimers for several years and then died. The past few years, she had cared for him and didn’t have time or energy to keep up her house or take care of herself. Once he was gone, her home, which needed a lot of work both on the exterior and the interior, reminded her every day that he was no longer with her, and that made her sad.

One day her bank called. The man on the phone knew her account number, how much she had in her account, and told her someone was trying to hack into her account. In order to save her money, she needed to move it. So she moved thousands of dollars into a cryptocurrency account, at his instruction. She didn’t understand it, but she trusted the man on the phone. She found out soon afterwards that the person she spoke with was not from her bank, indeed was not helping her, and had in fact robbed her of $77,000!

Billie lost her life savings, and with it, her belief in the goodness of people.

But Hope is on the move.

Billie’s neighbor down the street had been a Community Powered Revitalization neighbor, and had her home revitalized in a prior year. She recommended Billie call 6 Stones to help her fix the growing problems with her home. This call proved to be the Hope that Billie needed to move forward. Billie asked only for some rotten wood to be replaced on the front of her house, and ended up with that, plus so much more. After her full home restoration project was complete, Billie started to believe again that Hope is indeed real, and people can be good to one another.

6 Stones helped Billie, in a tangible way by repairing her home, but also helped heal her heart. While we couldn’t return her life savings, we could restore her belief in humanity and show her that her community cares about her.
