ISAT U’s NEW VIRTUAL LEARNING PLATFORM
By Ericka Obsioma
The newly developed systemwide Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) of Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) had its orientation for the first cluster last 8th of February via Zoom and Facebook Live at 1 o’clock in the afternoon spearheaded by Dr. Ramil Lumauag, Director of VLE and Mr. Pedro H. Fontonalgo, Director of Office of the Student Affairs and Services.
This orientation was organized by cluster to accommodate the
number of participants to join the Zoom Meeting, for that reason, only students from Leon and Miag-ao campuses were catered: Despite that fact, many students still managed to watch the orientation on Facebook Live because the number of viewers there is limitless.
Dr. Sandra Examen, the Miag-ao Campus Administrator was not present due to an important meeting with the other campus administrators so in behalf, Dr. Ely Ciasico represented the campus and read the welcome message left by Dr. Examen, then it was followed by another welcome message from Mr. Fontonalgo.
“Make use of this opportunity. Despite the difficulties of life that you are facing right now, ISAT University in all campuses is still trying to see you through these difficult times,” words of encouragement from Mr. Fontonalgo.
Right after Mr. Fontonalgo’s remarks, he gave the floor to Dr. Lumauag to enlighten students where he said that the VLE can be utilized by students and faculty members not just for this pandemic but beyond it and was made as a user-friendly environment for easier access to all.
Further, users can access this
platform online and offline using their personal computers, laptops, or smartphones. Syncing data once in a while is needed to update courses. Since only La Paz Campus and Miagao Campus have the only access yet, Leon, Dumangas, and Barotac campuses’ platform is still under development. Also, he demonstrated and explained how to use the platform online and offline one at a time and showed how to access every menu that is seen on the platform.
The SUC President III, Dr. Raul F.
Muyong encouraged students to speak up their minds regarding the VLE because they are more than willing to give answers to their questions. Following what Dr. Muyong said, many questions were raised and were clearly and immediately answered by Dr. Lumauag.
When no questions were raised, Dr. Fontonalgo left a message saying, “Broaden your knowledge, your understanding and how to cope up with your requirements and obligations during this time that we have to rely on virtual education through our virtual learning environment.”

Disinfection of offices is done every Friday noon, as to ease the very strong odor of the solution before Monday.
“Ang patakaran is very excellent man. Ang mga development kag ang enhancement kang eskwelahan parti sa mga guidelines okay man,” said Joel Nuanga, Campus Security Guard.
Furthermore, the 11 years in service of being a security in ISAT U MC, Joel Nuanga, marked the University’s developments and enhancements as excellent under Dr. Examen’s Administration in containing the deadly virus.
“Ang ginapangayo ko lang daad sa administration nga up-todate ang pag sekyar nanda kang mga announcement kag info parehos sa amon nga mga security guard,” Nuanga added.
The performance of the school security and employees get very good rating from the campus administration.
“Nami ang guidelines, kag ang safety gid sang health ang ginapasulabi. Kag nainchindihan man namon kung tama ka strikto ang pag sulod sa campus,” said Nicole Rose Eslofor, Tourism student.
“So we’re hoping and praying that this Pandemic will come to an end so that we can go back to normal but to no longer normal thing, but as of the moment that there is already a vaccine, yet and most likely if we go to school face-to-face we need to wear facemask and our face shield and continuously wash our hands to protect ourselves from the virus,” Dr.

A strange character of a noble figure
When “Quality Education” is just a shiny outer lining of “rotten Educational System”, will you still dare to buy it using the money you save from having a parttime job and overnights? Sometimes, the very thought of fundamental is the main reason why we are working hard. But, is it justifiable that we work hard just to have “Class C”, at the very least rather than having nothing in return? Today, our main problem isn’t in how can we understand the lesson in mathematics, physics and chemistry; moreover, not in how can we manage our time and most especially not on how can we reach what’s expected from us but on how can we passed the standard of DedEd just to be called a “Student”. Life is already hard, just this morning, we realized being a student is even harder, thus we are left with the most hardest part, knowing who are we and what’s our place. Being a student is a privilege, at the same time an honor, and that must not be abuse at all cost, especially not amidst this pandemic. When the RA 10931, otherwise known as the “Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act of 2017” was promulgated, our parents was the first one to rejoice. For the said law had lessened their burden, at the same time, in part of a student, studying in college will never be a hindrance anymore as long as there’s a dedication and perseverance. However, the outbreak of COVID-19 made the law more than useless. Online learning is seen as the best way to finance the bankruptcy of face-to-face learning, but is it? Probably, especially to those fat cat for they can afford to buy their child a gadgets and some necessity of best way, they have faster internet connection and a financier of load. While modular and recording tape was also included among those proclaimed best way as a means to suffice the need of those students who doesn’t have internet connection and gadgets. But, in what way can you guarantee that there will be “Quality Education” in those means? Come to think of the real scenario during regular classes, students were struggling to understand the lesson even though the teacher was right in front of them, how much more if all they have are pile of Instructional Materials? Have you ever thought of it? We are not trying
to oppose your plans and decision but it seems that today’s Education is only suitable for opulent individual. Let’s go back to why RA 10931 was promulgated, wasn’t it for those less fortunate? Now, what will happen to us? Who really are the subjects? Many saw quitting as the best choice, I hope you can hear their
howling, our howling rather. One day, there’s a clear declaration that made us furious. And do you know what’s that? It states that, “This year, schooling is a choice.” Why on earth would schooling become a choice when EDUCATION is a need? Can you still recall the four basic need? Those are FOOD, SHELTER, CLOTHING & EDUCATION, just in case you forgot about it. Is that the only ideal scapegoat you come up with? Letting us choose when you already have the majority’s vote? We’re against of Academic freeze as well because we’re thinking of millions of teachers who solely rely their everyday living on teaching. But,
please under the name of justice, do it fair as well. It is not just unemployment that will be uncontrollable after this crisis, but also the overflowing number of students that will be left behind and the out of school youth, surely that will be deafening. Furthermore, isn’t that one of the Millennium Development Goals is to achieve Universal and Primary Education? Where is it right now? Not everyone can still have the access to Quality Education for the connection was shut down by their decision that was not anchored to students’ situations. To simply simplify our condition, you’re strangling us, us- who are behind the intermediate line, because of your plans. We have gone far enough, from the transition of Basic Education Curriculum to K-12 Curriculum, and quitting for a year is beyond torture for us. You might argue that,” Then, don’t quit.” We badly wanted not to but how can we when from the very beginning, you left us with no other choice but to quit? Being a subject for who knows what will be the result is already too much and right now being a defendant, in which the only thing that can save us is our right as a student. For the jury, the DepEd, everything is groundless. What exactly a student is without their rights to be one?
A typical student only carry a backpack filled of notebooks, books and pencil and sometimes in his/her right arm was the school projects. But right now, it’s different. What we have in our back are the burdensome qualifications and requirements to be a student and not because we’re a student. How to be a student in this digital age? A trendy intriguing question. It’s hard to describe its physical aspects even the definition is devoid of reason, so absurd.
When wealthy are the primary subject of newly proclaimed best way to learn after throwing out the validity of law that support less fortunate individual. What right do the DepEd have to deprive those students who are behind the intermediate line of their privilege to learn? When the standard of being a student today is abusive, what right do we still have against it? Thus, we come to think that: Being a student is just a figment of our determination to be one.

Toast for Fluency or a deal with comprehension?
Future over pleasure or pleasure over future?
“Importante makamaan kaw basa kag sulat.”
Being a Filipino, belief really matters. But what if that belief causes misunderstanding among us, worst the cause of being unproductive? I am not a pro nor anti when it comes to annihilating belief, which is a trademark of being a Filipino, but I saw danger, on some, that comes after it. Thus, I come to think that it is the right time to stop medicating the younger generation with such belief especially the one stated above.
Upon hearing the result of 2018 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) which put our country at the last ranked among 79 countries for having a score of 340 points out of the average 487 points in reading comprehension that was released last December 3, 2019. I saw how our country mourn for it. But still it has the same review as the tragic ending of the love story of Romeo and Juliet, we accept it, many has move on. Sadly, only few has learned from it and some chose to
just ignore it.
What our country need isn’t a fluent individual but an individual who know how to comprehend. Frederick S. Perez, President of the Reading Association in the Philippines, identify that one of the main reason why many students had hard time during the examination was because they are used in reading stories with basic plot line rather than on informational text. Exactly! I don’t see the usefulness of critical thinking in reading legends, myth, tale and the like, which is mostly the content of Instructional materials distributed by the Department of Education (DepEd). Also, I don’t see comprehension in reading aloud because such activity is more likely geared toward fluency not on enhancing and exercising the analytical and critical thinking skills of a students. Why? Because instead of focusing on the context the student’s focus is being taken away by the thought of “How
might I sound?” It is a remarkable thing to note that fluency is of no use when it lacks comprehension. The case is synonymous in doing an experiment without following the correct procedure. Furthermore, the importance of Informational text is often neglected because the Instructional materials, that is being distributed, forgot to introduce it or at least given enough space. Which is by far the root of the rapid cases of misinformation leading to fake news because students can’t differentiate facts from opinion.
Write. Read. Listen. Understand. Speak. That should be the fundamental things in learning. It is not enough that we only know the first two or the last one or either which because if that’s the case the foundation is weak. We must have those four things, especially the fourth one because the fuel for us to speak well is when we understand things. I remember during my Elementary days, our teachers’ focus is for us to know how to read and write well. Then what? Even in spelling, their principle is that, it is enough that we know how to spell the word. Then what? They should at
least explain what’s the definition and it’s uses because a single word has a lot of meaning when we talk about uses and that’s very confusing and complicated. Isn’t that it is in the first six years of schooling where a students must built a strong foundation for the latter years will be easier to understand?
Unfortunately, during my time, that’s not the case. And that’s during my high school days
when I realized that the Instructional materials aren’t useful. Teachers are still striving to look for other references just to provide us enough information. That enough information is even harder to understand. We are going out of the topic and some were unrelated and baseless. Sometimes, the desired topic were left and we just proceeded to the next one. The bottom line here is that, they should create an Instructional material that is fit for each year level and thoroughly reviewed it. If there are some that is unnecessary then omit it and replaced it with the essential one. The thinner the better as long as it contains the most essential topic to be discussed than having the thickest one with unnecessary content.
It’s okay to submit ourselves in our belief, only if it is still effective. The belief that,”Importante makamaan kaw basa kag sulat to”, its effectiveness was already due a long time, when

In today’s generation, children are quite impulsive. In the sense that, whatever they think that can give them a bliss is already acceptable not minding what could be its consequences at the end. Yes! Our purpose on earth is to live life to the fullest but then, there are scads of things that should be taken into account as well.
We’ve come to reality that engaging yourself into the nature of loving at a young age is not bad, as long as you know what is moral and immoral, when you’re in a relationship. Preferably, you can have a lot of benefits if you have a girlfriend/boyfriend. In what way? Of course, they can help you make your assignments or projects, companion when you are doleful, either of these. But, we could not refuse the fact that it also has a negative effects which can probably distract you from studying and out of focus in your goals.
Being pregnant at the right age is definitely okay. On the other hand, the
youth of today is too vulnerable that’s why they prevalently involved in teenage pregnancy. This children should be at school busying themselves with their studies and helping their parents with household chores. They are still young, they can’ t afford the necessities of their children. Yet, we cannot deny that they wanted their children to have a better lives too. But how? If it is not there parents who shouldered everything they need, for sure, they will be so stressed. Why is it that teenagers are too prone with sexual practices? Maybe because they lack support and guidance from their parents or relatives. How about the others who received love and care but still engaged in that kind of doings? Should we say, they just wanted to be loved by others? Obviously, they have point, but why is it that they need to have sex just to feel loved? Does sex completes them?
According to Director Juan Perez III of the Commission on Population and Development (POPCOM), the number of pregnancies among teenagers as young as ten years old is alarming and the rate has definitely increase, amid the government calling teen pregnancy a “National Social Emergency. “
At a young age, children who got pregnant suffered from unruly adversities which make them so languid. In this era, if you’re pregnant and you’re still young,

internet connection can benefit?
I remember my daily routine in the first three months of the year 2020, sleeping late at night with piles of written works waiting for me in the morning, carrying files of papers to and fro, examinations waving in the hallway to my next subject, endless preparations to incoming reporting that will suck your blood then only to find out that your vexations has altered everything. But then, after those months everything changes swiftly. And that change made us constant, unsatisfying, and obligatory. Worst, helpless.
To us students, no one will say “no” to a long vacation but being a learner it’s a bane for us knowing the consequences brought by this pandemic, Corona Virus Disease 2019 or COVID-19 . The necessity to proposed home school, online learning and the like left the Department of Education (DepEd) gasping for optionality. However, those platform are not conducive, accessible and guaranteed to everyone, especially those in remote areas. In our current situation where we are all trapped and controlled, the only thing we can do is to stay at home and be safe, it’s better only for some. Sadly, I am not among those some. If it continues, where’s the education for all if only those who have computers, cellphones and fastest
I understand the term “Alternative” and “Unexpected” but not their definition of “fairness”. I lived in rural area where poor signal is seen as second among the rising problem aside from poverty in our community. To those who have the same as what I am experiencing right now, what will happen to us? Where we left behind? Or should we violate the Enhanced Community Quarantine or (ECQ) for us to get connected and stay updated, is that a conducive? Accessible? And what kind of learning are there when you are interrupted and distracted at the same time?
In addition, I saw Home School and Modular as good than “no schooling at all” but the another struggle there is, how about when we have some clarification? Who will suffice our need for explanation and clarification? Our parents? Probably, they rank number one in your list that will stand as our consultant. But don’t you know the reason why they send us to school? Their reason might not be applicable to many but for me it prevails. It states that,“We send you to school because we can’t afford to give you enough knowledge for you to learn more and be better.” And if you think that we are already college and we don’t need any consultants anymore, aside from allowing suspected persons to enter our countrywhich is the country’s biggest mistakeyours is thinking we can learn without any guidance from a teacher or professor.
Thus, I am ending it now with a thought that this crisis is really detrimental, which led me to think that I needed to be rich enough, not for fame, but just to afford a bit of knowledge that is uncertain, moreover, erroneous.

The PISA’ s result just showed us how we misunderstood fluency as the standard of intelligence.

Toast for Fluency........... continuation
Modernity was just an embryo. But since Modernity is already at the peak of its teenage years, it would be better to stop it as soon as possible and spread a new belief that will guide the new generation of students and that is: “Importante maintindihan mo te mayad ang ginabasa kag ginaubra mo “ Right now, where many of us has been dependent in using technologies, without knowing what will be its cause in the latter period, it is the right time that we know how to understand and react on how it must be use before it will use us. Yes, Technology makes our life easier but it complicate plowing the vast land of Education.
The PISA result just showed us how we misunderstood fluency as the standard of intelligence. But, despite of that degrading result we can use it to change what we have known and what we believe into our asset.
It’s a deal!
surely other people will judge you and make fun of you. No matter how you defend yourself, they will not see anything good from you instead it’s your mistakes.
Director Perez III added that, “There is an average of 530 teenagers that get pregnant daily, and the figure has stayed above 500 since 2010. The number hit a high in 2017, when the agency recorded about 574 teen pregnancies per day.”
No matter how you regret your past it will be feckless, you have already committed your sin, and that is getting pregnant not on the right age and right time. What we need today is a helping hand not only for the victims but for everyone. Making them cognizant of what are the negative effects that they will get from this will not be enough because there are myriads of things or factors that should be considered when dealing with teenagers.
Perez said they are taking a closer look at the 10 to 14 age group, saying they found a 50 percent increase of pregnancies since 2011, amounting to 2,000 cases. About 30 to 50 of these pregnancies are among ten-year-olds, Perez said.
“Among the ten years old are around 30, 40, 50 every year, so in one week, a ten year old is giving birth in this country,” Perez added.
Teenagers who are 14 below or everyone to be exact, should be at school not baby sitting. We knew that education is the best weapon that we can have but because of early pregnancy, it hinders the possibilty of attaining the zenith of success.
The cases of pregnant teenagers who are 14 below is rampant and quite alarming. The government should take an action or find means not solely lessen but totally annihilate. Although, there are programs that educate women still, it is not enough. There should be another methodology.
On the other hand, through the guidance of parents probably teenagers might be eluded from this kind of circumstance.
Yet, how much educated a person is, when temptation occurs, surely catastrophe will happen.
If you were to be asked, would you choose future over pleasure or pleasure over your future?
ISAT U MC’s HERO and HEROINE: battling against Pandemic
By Ma. Abigil T. Seguisa
We all have the desire to help others, especially in this times of crisis. Recently, Philippines is one of the countries which was hit and severely affected by the Global Pandemic, Corona Virus Infectious Disease or commonly known as COVID-19. Everyone was doing their part even in their little ways in order to contribute. Some were donating foods to the frontliners- who are risking their lives by leaving their homes just to provide security to the people even though they experienced discrimination. In the field of medicine, nurses, doctors and other medical practitioners they showed bravery by giving up their own safety just to cure the patients infected by this deadly virus while soldiers and policemen have to leave their comfort places also to secure the country. Even those who were in the blue-collared job employees such as janitors displayed sympathy in this time of Pandemic and those in the field of Fashion Industry, they showed how they can contribute by sewing protective equipment for the frontlinerswhich was so overwhelming.
ISAT U System paved its way as they once again done a big contribution in the field of sewing Personal Protective Equipments for the frontliners during this tough time and their heroic acts is now all over the Social Media. Together, let’s find out the sympathy and love for the certain personas who made their time beneficial through sewing facemasks and PPE’s for the medical frontliners in Iloilo.
An incoming third year BIT Fashion Apparel student and a native of Barangay Lutungan, Igbaras, Iloilo, Robelyn Ebido Elecanal together with her Fashion Apparel Instructor, Rolly John Fabila Pelobello, MSHE under the Bachelor of Industrial Technology Department folded their efforts together in sewing Personal Protective Equipments or Hazmat Suits and facemasks.
“We’ve sewn 430 facemasks wherein it was donated by the ISAT U MC Coop to be distributed to the students and 100 PPEs wherein it was under the Iloilo Unified Volunteers in cooperation with the ISAT U System to be given to all the medical facilities in Iloilo”, Prof. Pelobello stated.
It was a timely-cost scenario since it’s just three of them who were using the electric sewing machine to sew all the equipments.
However, despite the shortness in man power Elecenal said that, “We are still thankful and very much grateful to the siblings of Sir Pelobello for assisting us during the production since we’re working in their residence. That’s why, even the fact that there are protocol that we should stay home, I still managed to travel from our residence to my Prof’s house just to help him sew the said PPEs and facemasks.”
“We spend our day and night time sewing so that it would be done as soonest as possible because we knew that the frontliners are having a hard time seeking for this suit in battling the deadly virus,” she added.
They are also thankful for the patience and understanding of the parents of Prof. Pelobello for preparing their foods and everything.
“It was our first time to sew PPEs made of plastic and it was hard for us but we are determined to finish it that’s why, we did our best to come up with a high quality PPEs and we’re grateful that we made it,” Elecanal expressed.
She also stated that she was happy to be given a chance to contribute her skills in the field of Fashion Industry and at the same help the frontliners. Indeed, we have to set aside our selfishness and comfort zone in this time of pandemic because there are those who are suffering just to save us. Our brave frontliners risking their lives just to provide us security and comfort, in return, we have to follow the strict implementation of protocols and health standards because if we continue to violate and follow our own egos and desires, then we will be trapped in our current situation for a long time.
Lastly, these two great people proved to us that nothing can hinder us if we have this compassion and desire to help others. It’s another milestone, not only for them but also to the whole ISAT U Miagao Campus as they embodied the University’s core values. This may serves as an inspiration for us to look forward and continue doing good deeds for the future generations and for the betterment of our country. Hence, let me borrow this qoute which everybody loves to hear,“A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
Kudos Isatians!

GREAT PERSONA BEHIND FOE
By Elaine V. Nabiong
DOCTORS: The last in line
REPORTERS:
The muted suppress
They are the one who inform the people of its nation of the current situation of mother earth. They are the one who voiced out the fears of everybody, addressed the need of everybody, and arrest cruelty for being
They are the person behind our knowledge and it is also behind our knowledge that they are also a person who has rights, freedom and obligations. Whose rights and freedom were prosecuted in pursuit of truth, just by doing their obligations.
Yet no one heard their scream for help, no one knows they are shot, their death wasn’t feared, their greatness means nothing, and for who they are it was concealed. For reporters are dignitaries great friend in installing good reputation and a foe of their own selves for not giving themselves a good one. For reporters talked about everything that inform and amuses everybody yet they failed to make themselves talk, failed to let the world to hear their suppressed symphony.
SECURITY GUARDS:
The guardian of unguarded happiness
Are they fearless? They are not but they choose to be someone like that.
Aren’t they sleepy? They are but they are meant to stay awake to watch over those dreams and nightmares that wanders to nowhere.
Are they strong? They might look like one but deep inside they are breaking into pieces. That is because they can never be weak and unguarded even if they want to.
Then, who are they? They are the most happiest individual who guard the most dangerous place here on earth, the darkness. They are ought to be there, to be the entertainer of those who lose theirselves.
Face, masked of laughter with a touch of vibrant happiness, just to entertain those nurses, doctors and unknown individual who lose their way and for them to find their way out of darkness, for it is untraceable. You can’t find it if you want to because only your fear knows the ingress and your happiness will lead you to the egress.
DRIVERS:
The tiny elements who made a huge difference
They are the tiny particles of society yet they are the most significant among all. Their absence means so much especially to those, whose hands determine whether one will survive or not. They are always the leftover that feed millions of individual who are deprived of happiness, losses hope, and willingness. They are the less commendable who always acknowledge everyone’s presence despite of status, gender, races, religion, color, and identity. They doesn’t have any similarities and incomparable to other professions because they are drawn to make differences, to make a change.
In order to make a change one must take one, the Frontliners, had taken that irrevocable rather.
Every bucket of their sweat, every time hearts forming clouds of strength, courage and again, invigorate their petrifying soul.
ARMED FORCES: The fIrst in line
They are well armed so that they can protect us at all cost. Well trained to easily understand the cause and well disciplined to deal peacefully with the cause.
They are always in front of anyone else. They are always the first to take the hit, first to die because they are the choosen individual who has a spirit of patriotism, willing to die for their country, clothe with nationalism.
But despite their overflowing desire to protect their country they forgot that theirselves needed them. Theirselves needed that greatness to make theirselves secured. Theirselves needed an arm to hold them up which for the meantime is holding a lifeless human.
BEHIND THE DISCREET FOE

take risk by stepping forward, and the choosen irrevocable step in order to save our nation, the world time their tears flood it was all evaporated by our and hope that will be precipitated and for once
POLICEMEN:
Brave warriors in the facade of invisible enemy
Literally standing in the side line of the road while letting themselves stricken by the beaming Mr. Sunshine in order to make sure that they check everyone who passes by in a certain area where they are assigned to. They are definitely very prone to virus because every time they are facing with different person, at the same time, they are putting their selves in the brinks of death. What they have for protection is solely masks and face shield. With this, they are easily affected by the virus. And to think that they are far from their families, it only shows how dedicated they are when it comes to their jobs. They are omnipresent in every phenomenon that we are dealing with. They sacrifice for the welfare of everyone. Rendering their selves for our safety is tearful. Let’s show love and support to our front liners by obliging the rules that have been implemented.
NURSES: The backbone of the Doctors
profession is very indispensable. Before, they are simply assisting doctors during operations or taking care of ill people in the hospital but during this pandemic, it’s more than that. For the reason that, they are one of the person who’s in the façade of this crisis. Every one of us has its own purpose here on earth and right now is the time we badly need our strenuous nurses. It’s too formidable to handle this unruly catastrophe but when each of us will have unity in diversity preferably, we will be able to vanquish this. Sweat and tears are there companion. They struggled so much because of this COVID-19 and they seemingly feel languid and stressed. Seeing their family is not on their vocabulary due to the alarming virus that is currently eating the entire world. In every day that they are staying in the hospitals make them more near to the possibility of acquiring or being infected of the said virus. To all nurses who are sacrificing their lives, may each of them will have strength in fighting this virus. Even if there’s no cure yet, may those infected become strong enough to fight the pain they are feeling.
Food is one of our basic needs which preferably vital in every man’s life. They are considered as one of our heroes because without them scads of Filipino will suffer from starvation. Although we are experiencing a formidable adversity they are still doing their job, despite the fact that it may jeopardize them due to they are dealing with different customers which they didn’t know if they are infected or not. They are putting their selves in danger too for the sake of their fellow Filipino who badly needs their service during this pandemic.
LOCAL OFFICIALS: Soldiers without weapons
HOSPITAL JANITORS:
The micro effect will have a macro effect
We customarily seen janitors in places where it’s in squalid situation. With what we are dealing with right now, they are one of the reasons why the hospitals are in its pristine state. Which prevalently very pivotal because of this COVID-19, which victimize myriad of our countrymen. If before, you solely disregard their job and disparage them just because they are janitors, but right at this moment of crisis, we should take into account their effort and sacrifices to maintain the cleanliness of the place where infected citizens stay in. Without them surely, the patients will undeniably perceive the smirch and will definitely augment their complications. They are the persons behind amassing garbage and making the atmosphere somehow lulling because it’s clean.
A promulgated law is futile if not because of the people like local officials who probably help in rigorously implementing it on their localities. Just like now, imagine if our officials are heedless about the administered laws of the higher sectors. During this pandemic, we should be obedient and respectful to whatever rules the IATF (International) and the officials of every localities has enforced because it’s for the sake of everyone not for one person only. They deescalate the burden that the higher officials are carrying. For example, if these officials controlled their people then the possibility of getting infected will be getting lesser and lesser. So,, we salute these responsible local officials who undoubtedly served as one of the agents in combatting this COVID-19.

The denied lyrics in every beats of his pursuit to wisdom
By Dinah S. Neptuno
We fled from different planet and we all landed in a newly developed University where we lost connection to where we come from. Then we met him and he showed us his world- where the emptiness is confusing, where looking straight at the tree spread numbers of shades of what lies behind of it, where in his world ignorance is a sin and being a fool is a choice and the intelligent people there aren’t those who has a remarkable extension on their name but the one who sit in the corner, observing them from afar, struggling to find an answer on how they have those poor label.
For 20 months of being under his jurisdiction until now we can’t yet compile everything that he taught us. Some of us are wondering if it is because we don’t understand him? Few says his words are too heavy and many explained they have hard time compressing it. But whatever it is, we only know one thing, that what he thought us is not to be written but to be accomplished. He taught us not to use powerful words most of the time nor waste our time talking with all words. Instead, he introduced to us the pace of walking in a running event, being watchful when someone is having an explanation and being deaf when someone is watching because those are the rules outside his world, where peacefulness can be achieved when everyone is devoid of their right to comment and express their opinion.
Last August 28, you sailed down to somewhere you describe a year ago as, “Garden of Abundance.” We badly wanted to ask you,
what abundance means to you that you wanted them so much outside your world, when in fact you have everything already. Vast land of flowers- flowering, non-flowering, and potent; crystal clear water flowing from the river of your wisdom; and overarching branches of camaraderie. So amazing! But, we are afraid we might sound awful as compare to those lovely nightingale. Now, you left it to us and everything became lifeless then we found out that the reason why your world is so amazing is because of you, the reason why we stayed for so long is because of you, the reason why until now we keep on pursuing this wrong path is because you told us that there’s nothing as “wrong path” only absence of passion and perseverance. We believe it! Not because you said it but because it is true. Right now is our turn, the world you entrusted to us we will take care of it and create a Universe devoid of injustices. We will make a chaotic Universe of peacefulness and fairness.
Dr. Flaviano Manalo, the marks you painted in the 11’× 17’ inches sheet of paper is the most beautiful painting we ever saw, they expressed nothing but perfection. You explained to us that the beauty of information is not on how catchy the colors are but on how simple they are used. You taught us of the different techniques of slowing the dispersion of the figures in the sky. One among them is to create our own figure and paste it to where we want to put ourselves. Furthermore, you enlightened us that a single dot is beautiful because it begets thousands of brilliant mind just to understand that life comprises a series of it.

“Forgive me!,” She utter amidst the heavy heartaches that pour down in her castle that was made of blocks of lies.

The droplets of regret streamed down on her 15 years old face. Clothes soaked by the irrevocable decision she made. Her hands trembled in disgust, later benumbed by fear while her feet was pulled by her conscience as she walked into the abode of her parents’ warmth.

Her mother felt a terrible knock on her heart, yet somehow sounds weak and without a second thought she abruptly open it and she wholeheartedly opened it again. In front of her, was a naked figure of her beloved daughter. She search for something, for her masterpiece that she once sculptured in the middle of her chest but Lily thrown it in the abyss of her hatred to her.

Her mother’s eyes asked her of a million questions, which many of it, she had expected; some of it, she had the answer buried; and the few, were just a part of her being a mother. But, she just lowered her head, begging for forgiveness. As her knees voluntarily fell down, so are her hopes, her blurry vision devouring her, turning everything that surrounds her into an aesthetic art of emptiness.

Her mother who’s heart was torn, in the heartbreaking moment in front of her she slowly became whole, pieces were joined together seeing her daughter embracing her, after a year of being away together with her waywardness.

But then, Lily let go of the tightening embrace. Wondering how can her mother can still accept her. Despite what she had done, dropping out of school just to have night outs, going out everyday with someone she just knew for a day, spending night on someone’s home and being with someone who’s name she only knew.

Then, as she had all the happiness as she cheers, as she had herself in

One morning, a doctor called her, she thought she was still drunk but no, she wasn’t. She was sober but as she take a sip of reality, slowly she feels drunk. She wish to, just to escape one last time, but she can’t be anymore.

She had already tasted the various classification of happiness stored in the bewitching bottle of youthfulness. Now, a stranger offered her a wine stored in an old aged jar.

“This one is much better than you had,” a stranger said to her. “Whether you like it or not, you drink it or throw it. You will remain soberly drunk.”

She took a sip of it. Then, her eyes quickly closed savouring the suffering of her father.

Her second sip made her dropped in her knees as she saw how her mother was strangled... by love... for loving her too much.

Then, as she tasted the last drop she thought how delightful the fermented juice was even though it was actually tasteless.

His father got out, a draft of disbelief sketch on his 50 years old face but as he scrutinizes her, slowly it was polished by flaming excitement. Lily knew his father might have knew what her mother failed to know.

“We’re back...” Lily said in a monotonous tone. She can feel the rays of longingness in her mother’s glowing eyes but it was then faded and replaced by a questionable one.

SINGGIT SANG ISATIAN
This Anti-Terr0r bill is like making me choose the “NO CHOICE” button. I would agree for the protection, but having the supportng details that would contradict to the other bill of rights is sort of inappropriate because the purpose of having right is for the common good and the rights must coincidse with each other.
As a concern Filipino citizen, I strongly disagree on this said AntiTerror bill because I know it won’t help people or even the whole country because it allows the government or the hugher officers especially the policemen to arrest suspected terrorists even without warrant arrest. For me, it’s a kind of act of human right deprivation because of disrespectful and injustice arrest or suspecting those people who are not even connected in such kind of actions. The government and the people will be in chaos in passing this bill unless the government will use this in an appropriate way. It will give fear to the people and it might be use to abuse people especially the innocents. But somehow, it has also an advantage in resolving terrorism in the country.
Our diverse perspective enrich human interaction and it should never be seen as barriers towards the attainment of global unity and the humanity to set apart. If our power to speak will be gone for us the value of human rights is useless.
“KAPAG NAMULAT KA SA KATOTOHANAN, KASALANAN NG PUMIKIT.”
We should endorse freedom of expresssion, diversity of perspective, and tolerance of dissent to achieve the informed and responsible decisionmaking fundamental to a civil society.
Anti-Terror Act of 2020, for protection or another act of human right deprivation?
For me, both. Yes protection man para kanaton as a citizen of this society. It is good para mareduce ang mga crime, but it has a worst side. For example, imol bi ang isa ka tawo tapos nasal-an lang sya nga wala ya man na commit ang crime, siyempre karuluoy man penalised kaw without knowing them knowing your side d pareho sa mga manggaranon kay may kwarta (money talks). Ang masuffer guid ya ang mga poor.
For me this Anti-Terror bill is somewhat like, “It’s better that it doesn’t exist.” If we say that its for protection, it somewhat gave us the feeling of relief but the supporting details of this statement could also enable us to feel worried especially to those innocent individuals that wereq involved just because of the general warning.
I am opposing the AntiTerror bill, why? Because why would I support something that is stopping us to express ourselves and obviously this is abusing our freedom of speech. The act for me was made for the sake of those ambitious person behind that act and they only wanted the best for themselves but not for the best of the people of the Philippines. Expression of our emotions or reactions towards the government should not be labeled us terrorism. They should think of it as something they could reflect on for the betterment of their governance not to threaten the people.
