The Sunflower was founded in 1896, and has been serving as a source of news, information and student voices for Wichita State and its surrounding community ever since.
The Sunflower is an editorially independent, studentrun news organization with a newsroom in Elliott Hall on WSU’s main campus. Each academic year, we pay approximately 50 students to write, shoot photos, design, edit and run our social media.
The Sunflower — both in print and online — will be a timely resource of information about the Wichita State University community. It will report on news, issues, activities, academics and athletics, in addition to offering a forum for discussion, reviews and commentary. It will also be an effective learning experience for students, who will have the final authority over what is published.
The Sunflower is a nationally recognized student news organization, earning the pretigious Pacemaker award in print, online and multi-platform categories over the past three years from the Associated Collegiate Press.
The Sunflower distributes print publications every Tuesday during fall and spring semesters, delivering to more than 20 buildings on the main campus, to other WSU campuses, to Wichita Public Libraries and to several businesses in Wichita.
The Sunflower publishes online almost every day at www.thesunflower.com and across social media.
