nd it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria. And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; because he was of the house and lineage of David. To be taxed with Mary, his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that, while they went there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn. And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. Osceola Village Board trustee resigns, ending DOJ investigation BY LAURIE SABATA CONTRIBUTING WRITER
An investigation into alleged illegalities against the Osceola Village Board was brought to a quick halt at their December 12 board meeting when Trustee Rod Turner’s resignation was announced. On Decem-
b 5, Osceber o resident ola K Weaver Kyle s submitted a f formal affidav of comvit p plaint to the W Wisconsin Turner Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Litigation claiming that
Turner had been “illegally serving as Trustee of the Osceola Village Board in spite of the state’s residency requirements for village board members.” The complaint states that although Turner owns a residence on Geiger Street in Osceola, he actually lives
near Nye in rural Polk County, and has possibly resided there for over a year. In a letter to the editor of the Osceola Sun in October of this year, Weaver indicated that “it was no secret” that Turner no longer lived in the village. He urged the board to start taking steps to fill his position
since they were already interviewing candidates to fill the seat vacated in August 2017 by Trustee Carol Otto. “Mr. Turner and others in the community have been made aware of the fact that he is no longer a resident,” Weaver wrote in the complaint. “So far the Osceola Village
Board has declined to address this situation publicly.” In his letter of resignation, Turner cited a lack of availability to serve the village as the reason for leaving his post. No mention was made in the letter or by the village SEE TURNER, PAGE 14
