Osceola school district holds lead BY SUZANNE LINDGREN EDITOR@OSCEOLASUN.COM

A “report card” from the state released Nov. 13 showed Osceola school district leading schools area wide. The district’s score — an average of test results from the intermediate, middle and high schools — rose slightly from 84.6 to 85.2. Based on the three-school average, the district continues to outrank nearby districts. The report cards, which reflect student testing done during the 2017-18 school year, also rate the individual schools. OHS The high school was the only school to improve its rating, but its nearly nine-point jump from 71.5 to 80.3 offset small declines for the intermediate and middle schools. The jump elevated its ranking by the Department of Public Instruction from “meets expectations” to “exceeds expectations.”

OMS Even with a lower score on this report card, 88.4 to last year’s 90.9, the middle school continues to lead the district, “significantly exceeding” the DPI’s expectations. OIS The intermediate school’s score dropped slightly, from 77.8 to 74.9, but stayed within the DPI’s “exceeding expectations” category. OES The elementary school uses an alternate, non-numerical ranking system. The DPI deemed its progress “satisfactory” on the report card. District The district’s rankings show OHS, OMS and OIS exceeding or significantly exceeding expectations. As a whole, the Osceola school district is one of 49 of the state’s 422 public districts to significantly exceed expectations. District Superintendent Mark Luebker said the report card results reflected a community-wide effort and that
