A series of buildings, sided with spotless white steel and trimmed with red, stand near completion at Crystal Ball Farms Organic Dairy. Since the barn was lost to a fire March 29, crews have been busy digging a new manure pit, building a new barn and milking parlor, calf barn, feed room and silo. “It’s a whole new dairy complex,” said Troy DeRosier, who owns the farm with his wife, Barb DeRosier. “We lost the whole thing.” Rebuilding has taken longer than the DeRosiers had initially hoped, but Troy reported that it is going well. “They’re good crews,” he said. “There’s just a lot to do. We have 15 to 20 guys working out here every day.” The DeRosiers hope to move the cattle into the barn in late November. After inspections and

relicensing, they plan to reopen the creamery early next year. In the meantime, they are busy finishing fieldwork before freezing temperatures set in. The months-long process has been hard on the

business. DeRosier noted that, with no product revenue coming in, they had to let go of key employees. And after years of building a base of loyal customers, the DeRosiers worried a bit that the gap in sales might erode

Days before the opening of “A Christmas Carol,” members of the Osceola High School Drama Club donned top hats, bonnets, suit coats, ties, dresses and footwear pre-dating the concept of arch support.
