Local business makes waves at national competition

Tuesday, November 6, Polk County voters will weigh in on District 28 Assembly and District 7 Congressional representatives. They will also elect a clerk of court for Polk County. The election is expected to cement the winner of the sheriff’s primary, Brent Waak, as sheriff of Polk County. Statewide, incumbent Republican Governor Scott Walker will face Democratic challenger Tony Evers. For U.S. Senate, Republican Leah Vukmir will challenge incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin, the first time in Wisconsin history that two women have been major-party nominees for U.S. Senate. Democrat Josh Kaul will challenge incumbent Republican Brad Schimel for the attorney general’s office. Republican Jay Schroeder and Democrat Doug La Follete will vie for secretary of state. For state treasurer, Democrat Sarah Godlewski faces Republican Travis Hartwig.

Moratorium continues

The Polk County Board last night approved a plan that would add ATV and UTV use to the Stower Seven Lakes State Trail. The plan, which proposes a parallel path within the trail’s existing right of way to separate different types of trail users, will now go to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources for review. Residents calling county-imposed address changes costly, confusing and potentially unsafe will remain under the grace of a moratorium for now. The Polk County Board decided not to end the moratorium Tuesday, Oct. 16, as it waits for a decision on a related case before the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
