The art of inquiry BY SUZANNE LINDGREN EDITOR@OSCEOLASUN.COM
Science and art are often assumed to be mutually exclusive. But deeper reflection reveals that they are often two expressions of the same intent: inquiry. For Han Huisman, a scientist by training and artist by his own initiative, a background in molecular biology and continued interest in inquiry bring novelty to age-old artistic methods. A neuroscientist, Huisman moved to the United States from Amsterdam in 2001 and has worked at the University of Minnesota, the University of Arizona and in Wisconsin. Recently, he began experimenting with colored chemicals, watching them change when painted on a substrate chosen to cause a chemical reaction. “I’m trying to develop colors which have not been developed before,” he says, then challenges his own task. “We have such a huge panel of colors. Why are you going to find another, which may be already there?’ he asks. “That’s the scientist in me. What I’ve developed over the years is that I can create colors by reacting pigments with the SEE ART, PAGE 10

A major concern for every municipality is road conditions. It’s an expensive yet key aspect to keeping any town running smoothly. In Farmington this issue has been discussed at length to try to improve the conditions of its roads. The project in progress at the intersection of 30th Ave and 280th St, which has been restarted with a revised plan, has continued with the addition of trap rock. This project has been on-going for quite a while due to the struggle of trying to

The difficulties of road maintenance BY JESSICA ANDERSON INTERIM EDITOR
As Wisconsin voters prepare to head to the polls Nov. 8, incumbent Republican legislators face competition from Democrats and in some cases third party candidates. In the 10th Senate District, Republican incumbent Sheila Harsdorf faces Democratic challenger Diane Odeen. In Assembly District 28, Adam Jarchow is up against Democrat Jeff Peterson and Vincent Zilka of the Veterans Party.
Running for Congress, Wisconsin’s current U.S. Senator, Republican Ron Johnson, is racing against the state’s former senator, Democrat Russ Feingold, who served the role from 1993 to 2011. Libertarian Phil Anderson has also thrown his hat in the ring. And hoping to represent Wisconsinites in the House, Democrat Mary Hoeft is challenging Republican incumbent Sean Duffy for the 7th U.S. Congressional District seat. The Sun asked incum-

spread limited funds in the best way possible. At the Oct. Farmington Town Board meeting the board completed the first step, a resolution, necessary to abandon approximately 1300 feet of town road 60th Ave. They also began to discuss the idea of abandoning Drawbridge Road. Abandoning a town road allows a municipality to do just what it seems. The road is no longer maintained by the municipality, resulting in financial savings. The decision to abandon a road involves many complexities including
The Osceola Chieftain tennis team entered the WIAA tournament season last week. Osceola was the third ranked team in the Baldwin-Woodville Sub-Sectional before hitting a stone wall at Sectionals in Marshfield. Osceola accumulated 14 team points in Baldwin to trail only Baldwin-Woodville and Amery after the first day of tournament play. The Chieftains were unable to add any more team points at Sectionals and finished in seventh as a team. After Sub-Sectional play the Chieftains qualified for three matches at Sectionals. Unfortunately Osceola did not find a win in any of
