Locals demand solution to F&A odor BY SUZANNE LINDGREN EDITOR@OSCEOLASUN.COM

A Dresser resident and an official from the Town of Osceola voiced concerns to the Dresser Village Board March 7 about F&A Dairy’s continuing odor problem. “Families cannot enjoy picnics outdoors,” Linc Duncanson, Dresser, told the board. “Children cannot go outside to play. Local diners and tourists have complained of the smell while eating. Churchgoers are offended as they worship on Sundays.” The stench has damaged the reputation of the community, he continued, and diminished the value of homes and businesses. Citing Dresser’s Public Nuisance ordinance,

New efforts to control odors at F&A Dairy, including agitating ponds near the road to stop them from freezing, were completed March 6, said F&A plant manager Mike Breault.

which includes noxious odors, Duncanson asked why the board had not taken action to solve the problem and who authorized several more weeks

of violation while the company tried new repairs. Dan Burch, a member of the Town of Osceola’s board, reported additional complaints. “We’ve had a few of our residents complain about the smell as well,” he said. “I know you’re in a tough position and I know people have been trying to mitigate it for a long time, but it doesn’t seem like there’s any resolution. ... It’s affecting overall business in the area, too.” In response to these criticisms, F&A plant manager Mike Breault asserted that the company recently instituted new efforts to control the scent, investing about $500,000 to solve the problem. F&A’s biological oxygen demand (BOD) levels were consistently over the limit in January 2016, according to weekly test results reported to the DNR. Due to a plug in one of the pipes caused by current construction, samples could not be taken the last week in January. Results from testing in February will be reported later this month.

Additions planned in Osceola parks BY SUZANNE LINDGREN EDITOR@OSCEOLASUN.COM

Plans are in the works to lay additional sidewalk along the Gristmill Park Trail and to build a trailhead at Geiger Park. The Village of Osceola has also approved the sale of roughly 300 square feet of park land to the Osceola BP, enabling the convenience store to expand storage. Gristmill Park Trail A new sidewalk in Gristmill Park would start at the south end of the footbridge over Osceola Creek (behind the Watershed Café) and connect to the existing
