Chieftainettes head to state
Osceola Chieftainettes competed at the WACPC 2020 Western Region State Qualifier and placed third in D2 HipHop and will be competing at state this Saturday. Members of the Hip Hop team (left) are Kaia Leverentz, Katlyn Koosman, Emma Mahler and Megan Hall. cinating technology is how we choose to use it. The computers that we use today (including our smartphones) are more advanced than what was used on the Apollo 11 mission. We have more information at our fingertips than ever before and rather than a vigorous appetite for learning this wealth of knowledge, we look up funny videos of cats on YouTube, or binge watch The Office on Netflix for the 15th time. What’s worse is that socializing has been diminished to likes on Facebook and conversation is rarely done outside of a text message.
So, I’m stuck in the middle of this technological revolution. On the one hand, our potential is nearly limitless with the ever increasing technology at our disposal. On the other hand, I see the worst of people come out from social media and other forms of technology. While I am not anticipating a robot takeover, I do wonder if we are handling the expansion of this technology in a way that is entirely healthy for the human race. Betty Thurber-Kania Betty Thurber-Kania, went home to Jesus on Jan. 26, 2020, surrounded by family. She was 93. She was a longtime resident of Richfield, Minn., where she and Dale rraised their family. She tthen spent decades in L Lindstrom, Minn. Betty was preceded in d death by her husband, D Dale Thurber; her seco ond husband, Floyd Kan nia, and her two sisters. She is survived by her tthree sons, Dale, Dan a and Dave, their wives, m many grandchildren and g great-grandchildren. Funeral services were J Jan. 31 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osceola.
