AN INSIGHT INTO THE MINDS OF THE PEOPLE IN THE THICK OF THE TOPICS YOU LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT...

12

Shaun Martin

The normal world of sex and relationships is left far behind back on the plane once summer comes along. Different country = different rules.

Happy birthday to me Twas the night of my birthday and Carver Street was the penultimate location. But first it was time to invade Division Street with the lads.

I for one near enough agree with this holiday mantra – why not use your break in the sun to completely escape normal life? No one need ever know – just as long as there’s no photographic Facebook evidence and you can trust your mates not to tell, of course. And there’s always that six degrees of separation thing: your holiday romance’s mate went to school with someone’s cousin who used to work for a guy whose dad went out with your girlfriend’s dog groomer’s stepdaughter… Busted. I’m not completely condoning cheating, you understand, obviously if you’re in a fully committed relationship with marriage on the horizon then be good girls and boys, but otherwise…?

Common Room with three Glitterbombs for £10.50 was first on the cards; after those three and a pint it was time to move on to Soyo. It was quite dead inside but from silence came a flurry of girls who over took the bar, and it took us over 15 minutes to get a drink with each bar staff member ignoring us till the girls had departed… The wait was worth it though, with double vodka mixes and Jägerbombs at just £1.50. The Jägerbombs were standard and decent; Soyo do a good deal of bombs and the music is always pumping with mellow house then switching up into UK funky. The time for Carver Street came. The Sheffield Parties guys sorted guestlist out for us and as it was my birthday they sorted me free entry! BEAST! We went straight into Beg Borrow and Steal where I went straight to a clear bar and ordered two Blue Lagoons off the menu (two for £5.50). I was innocently expecting two standard cocktails, but the two biggest/gayest looking cocktails popped up from behind the bar - 50% ice, 40% juice, 10% vodka. Tasted nice but I’ve never felt as feminine as I did drinking those… but it was my birthday so who cares - I was going to get wrecked. The company from DJ Super K (Storm Parties) behind the decks and a birthday drink off him sorted me out. After some UK funky/ RnB we moved down to Paris. I can’t remember much after a few more bombs, just waking up at Stalker Lees (March issue 2011) with a can of 4 Stripe in my back pocket and one of my best mates passed out next to me...

Whereas you might keep embarrassingly drunken sexual encounters to a minimum back home, decorum becomes an afterthought on holiday. I myself am not a follower of this trend; never will you find me in a sweaty mess slumped by the pool after a boozy night on the strip. It always pays to be a classy bird as far as I’m concerned. My thoughts on holiday romances? Dreams of sweaty romps with a native Latino lover are, in reality, a regular hook up with a lanky lad from Brighton but, if you’re lucky, you could catch a sunkissed hottie. One must bear in mind, however, that a week-long romance will most probably not blossom into a full blown relationship once back home. A few texts filled with promises of meeting up and a new Facebook friend will be the extent of your liaison. Once that realisation is established, a holiday fling can be an exciting prospect. So tie up your bikini, pack yourself into a pair of Speedos, whip out the shades and get yourself on a plane to fun in the sun.

Kate Hobson

My favourite makeup look is big, bright, piercing eyes and a pair of Eyelure false lashes from Boots; my makeup case is stuffed with a wide selection (over three pairs!) of false lashes. Let’s face it, everyone wants thick, luscious eyelashes and the cheapest way to achieve this is by using false lashes. For a mere fiver your eyes will look the sultriest they ever have, and for the budget conscious amongst you I’ve scoured eBay and found incredible deals of ten pairs for £2-3, I wouldn’t say they’d be the best quality or most natural looking of lashes but at least your bank account won’t laugh at you. Often when I scan the sea of faces on a night out in Sheffield all I see are a hundred fake tanned, spidery eyelashed faces staring back at me. It takes all of my patience to not go over and hand them a makeup wipe. Not that I’m having a go at girls that wear makeup and other false… enhancers, but that’s exactly it: these things are meant to enhance, not look like they’re maiming the poor girl’s face. As a huge false eyelash fan myself, I find it incredible how some people can get it so wrong. We all know the age old rule that you can enhance eyes or lips but never both. But what do you do when you feel like unleashing your inner scarlet lady with a slick of red lipstick? Surely false lashes are out of the question? Yes and no, you can’t wear a full strip of thick lashes without looking drag queenish (sorry, sadly it’s true) but you can get away with a few single lashes placed on each corner of the eye, it will keep your look dramatic but not theatrical (you don’t want to be compared to The Joker). I guarantee, whatever your style, false eyelashes will be your cup of tea.

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Whilst summer prospects fill me with warmth, the idea of bearing all in a bikini after six months of long sleeves and tights leaves me damn right cold. The best way to forget about those body blues is to go all out on a high fashion, sharp by-the-pool look. And SS’11 is bursting with stunning, striking beachwear. Be a sultry sun lover in one of this season’s barely-there sheer maxi dresses. Wear with tousled locks for ultimate romance and ease. Throw on a leather jacket come evening to give this whimsical look a cool, tough edge. Alternatively have fun with this season’s boho, 70’s trend. Think African prints, pompoms, embroidery, tassels and beading. There are also some great pieces of crochet and summer knitwear to be snapped up on the highstreet. Straw hats are, once again, everywhere, however this year the choice is fairly extensive. From wide rimmed floppy to ribbon adorned trilby or denim bowler, hats are not only a great way to make your outfit unique but are great for protecting your face from nasty UV rays. When it comes to swimwear think Missoni knitwear prints or 50’s style. Some gorgeous high waisted bikinis and one pieces with cut outs can be found on the high street and catwalk but remember the golden rule: Always try on swimwear, nothing is more flattering than something that fits your body beautifully.

iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

I think you can tell a lot about someone by what’s in their makeup bag; after all, the way you dress says a lot about your personality and how you express yourself. And I love having a rummage through other people’s cosmetics because I’m just really nosy like that.

Sophie Bromley Piazza As the sun has reared its beautiful head and shone from dusk ‘til dawn for much of the past month, my yearning for sandy shores and the pool sides has only increased.

One of dance music’s most influential and innovative DJ producers, Gareth Emery, storms into Creamfields Festival this summer and we snatched him off the CDJ’s for a moment to have a quick chat

.

Voted Number Seven in DJ Mag’s ‘Top 100 DJs’ poll making him the UK’s highest ranked DJ, Gareth is one of the youngest DJs ever to crack the top ten. In 2010, he released his debut artist album ‘Northern Lights’ on his own label Garuda, to stunning reactions from fans and critics alike, topping the US iTunes dance chart within hours of release. This year he releases ‘Northern Lights: Re-Lit’; a collection of remixes of his debut album. We grabbed an interview with him to find out just what makes him tick. What’s your new album all about?

It’s a bunch of remixes from my debut artist album Northern Lights, and features mixes from the likes of Hardwell, Giuseppe Ottaviani, Super8 & Tab, Daniel Kandi and more. What made you decide to release a remix concept?

I guess a lot of tracks on the original Northern Lights were more designed for home listening than clubs, so it made sense to pick a bunch of my favourite producers to turn the tracks into club bangers. Will you be doing any live Northern Lights shows to accompany this?

Yes. We’ve done two concerts so far, in Leeds and Toronto – it’s basically an extended set by me plus a bunch of live vocalists and instrumentation, I even get on the piano! We’ve got some more concerts coming up in LA, Chicago and a few more in North America, plus we’re announcing two more in Europe imminently. You’ve just been to Miami, do you go to the conference every year? Did you hear any tracks to listen out for?

Yeah I go every year, it’s a great time, although you come back totally shattered. I’m not sure you get truly ‘huge’ Miami tunes like you used to five to ten years ago as sets tend to be more varied rather than everyone playing the same tracks, but I heard some great music during the week which I’m looking forward to IDing. You’re confirmed to play at Creamfields alongside Above & Beyond and Markus Schulz. Will you get to see their sets too?

INTERVIEW - GARETH EMERY //////////////////////////////////////

I will if I can… Catching other DJ’s sets can be tricky at festivals as it all depends on when you arrive, what set time clashes exist etc. But A&B and Markus are two acts I always try to see.

24

Have you got anything to say to your fans that are undecided about coming to Creamfields this year?

Undecided, are you mad? It sold out last year so I’d decide quickly!

What are you most looking forward to about this year’s Creamfields?

Tune of Creamfields ‘11?

One that I haven’t written yet (hopefully). Apart from your own obviously, what’s your favourite DJ podcast?

The amazing crowd and the best festival the North has to offer. Oh, and the short drive home…

Resident Advisor. They have a different DJ each week, it’s all very underground, and some of it is crap but others are amazing. The variety really is something to behold.

Which DJs will you be going to see when you have finished your set?

What has been the best song that you have produced and why?

It all depends on set times, but on the Sunday I’d like to see the Swedes, Laidback Luke and Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano the most. Have you ever been to Creamfields as a punter?

No, mainly because of living in Southampton until I was 26… it was pretty far so I’d be more likely to be at Homelands. Then once I moved up North I ended up having gigs every time it was on. How’s your set going to be different than any other you’ve done before?

Well I did about 150 gigs last year and not a single one was exactly the same… so I’m pretty sure it will be different. But seriously, I always try to bring something a bit special for the festivals. Are you willing to announce any plans, or cheeky little numbers that we can expect to hear at this year’s Creamfields?

I’ve already got a load of nice little bootlegs and party tracks that I think are going to work well for the festivals… so definitely! Can you reassure us that there will be plenty of fresh material to get us in our groove and make us all feel special?

I’ll be well into writing my second album by then so you’ll definitely be hearing a few tunes from it that I’ll be testing out.

Usually it’s the most recent, so I’d have to say Sanctuary because it’s the one that reached the most people. What decks do you use?

Pioneer CDJ2000s.

What made you get into DJing?

I’ve always been into music – when I was into rock music I was playing guitars and keyboards, so when I got into dance music, it made sense that I got into DJing. When can we expect the next album?

Early to mid 2012.

Who is your all-time favourite, and current favourite DJ/Producer?

All time favourite: Rank 1 Current favourite: Ben Gold

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Spare time? What’s that?

If you weren’t an internationally recognised DJ and producer what would you have become?

Not sure. Probably something in business though. Before I did this I used to have a company that sold mobile phone ringtones. I’m pretty sure it would’ve been something that didn’t involve a nine to five office job.

Which DJ/producer would you most like to work with?

To be honest I’m just really enjoying working on my own right now. Collabs are fun, especially if you’re struggling a bit creatively, and you always learn new things from other people. Do you have any famous fans?

Haha that’s a good question. Chris Fountain (Justin Burton from Hollyoaks and now Corrie) follows me on Twitter, and that kid from Skins always has a Garuda poster on his wall… if either of those count.

Gareth plays the Cream Arena at Creamfields on Sunday 28th August 2011. For music/videos/podcasts and more check out

Crysis 2 PS3, Xbox 360, PC

Crysis 2’s pretty incredible representation of New York City is the first thing that will catch your eye. It’s a beautiful facsimile of NY and similar to the one in GTAIV, it is evident that a lot of hard work and effort has been put into its creation. Recreating one of the most bustling, diverse and recognisable cities on the planet is no easy task and yet Crytek have managed to capture its flavour with aplomb. Benefitting from huge visual variety – skyscrapers, subways, parks, building interiors and tunnels, significantly, it forms a very refreshing setting for a shooter. No predictable alien planets or characterless military facilities here. Graphically, the game also represents a marked step-up towards the once preposterous claims of games one day achieving photo-realism; perhaps this is a pipe-dream no longer... In gameplay terms, Crysis 2 differs from Crytek’s two prequels - themselves defined by an original and interesting setting. The confines of a city offers less open spaces, which limits vehicle use and free exploration. In practice, this is no bad thing, but the difference is worth noting. As in the first game, the player’s character is nestled inside an advanced combat suit which grants the user special abilities such as a higher jump, sneaky invisibility or additional armour protection. Not exactly groundbreaking but they certainly offer something extra over run-of-the-mill FPSs. Things go slightly awry when it becomes apparent that the Cloak ability is perhaps too useful, but it must be mentioned how liberating it initially feels to invisibly stalk and dispatch unsuspecting enemies while his team-mates frantically try to locate the hidden assassin. Another downer sees Crytek manage to create a truly movie-like opening, replete with dramatic events, cool opening titles and a memorable Hans Zimmer penned theme tune and then subvert all their efforts by insisting on making the lead character a blank entity, lacking a face, personality and even a voice - ergo, the complete destruction of the movie-like experience by inserting another awkward, seemingly braindead, frankly bizarre lead character into a first-person perspective game... These qualms aside, Crysis 2 remains a fun and worthwhile romp deserving of at least one play-through.

Now that we’ve used this space to simply express our ennui regarding such things, you will have to head online to discover the content they contain should your interest remain piqued…

SHIFT 2: Unleashed. PS3, Xbox 360, PC

It’s hard to get excited about SHIFT 2: Unleashed. The racing sim genre offers little in terms of individuality. We have the Gran Turismo series, which offers an unparalleled amount of content, the Forza series, which leads the way in customisation and now the SHIFT series, which offers…another alternative. It’s fair to say that Xbox 360 owning race fanatics will be happy with Forza Motorsport 3 and PS3 owners will get their racing simulation fill from Gran Turismo 5, so what format does that leave open for SHIFT 2? PC? Certainly not - PC owners have the most realistic simulations available with SimBin Studios’ Race On. EA can’t even rely on selling to devoted Need For Speed players, seeing as though they have dropped the Need for Speed heading since realising it has very little in common with the rest of the franchise. The only viable market for EA are racing fans so fanatical about them that they simply have to own every last one of them. It makes you wonder if the developers; Slightly Mad Studios, were indeed slightly mad to try and tackle this virtually sewn-up market. The only real difference between this and the others is in the career mode structure, which again is nothing remarkable. Tutorials are offered through filmed videos of real life drift racer Vaughn Gittin Jr., who gives the usual spiel, telling you how move up through the ranks and so forth. Progression comes through earning experience points by means of good driving, slipstreaming, overtakes and obviously, winning races. The more ‘XP’ you earn, the more races become available. Throw in the usual “earn cash to buy better cars and upgrades” and you will realise we have yet another sim cut from the usual, increasingly tattered cloth. The developers have almost gone so far as to admit that they can’t really compete with the sheer number of cars and tracks in Gran Turismo, so SHIFT’s raison d’etre has become the unremarkable ‘headcam’ and a social aspect utilising a system called Autolog, which records user stats and allows for file sharing-esque shenanigans. In practice, this is no great shakes, and is certainly not a deal breaker when deciding which race sim to plump for. There is little to fault in the game’s handling model or attention to detail, the cars handle realistically while also allowing players to tinker with the car settings, and the tracks are well implemented but there is absolutely nothing new and we can’t recommend SHIFT 2 over any other racing sim you care to mention. There is no denying that if you enjoy racing games, you’ll enjoy this, but only consider this game if you are absolutely desperate to drive a Jaguar XKR or Nissan GT-R around the Nürburgring for the umpteenth time.

Driving Force G27 SHIFT 2 does a very good job at creating a realistic driving experience, but a high quality wheel is essential. We recommend the excellent Driving Force 27. It will set you back a few quid, but the authenticity it offers is second to none. SHIFT 2 utilises the G27’s clutch pedal, but unfortunately, the 6-speed gear shift doesn’t function, highlighting the fact that SHIFT 2 doesn’t manage to live up to Race On or Gran Turismo 5 in the realism stakes.

4. Drench Proof

With video gaming being a sport in its own right, smart phones have had to evolve as well and now I’m proud to introduce to you the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play.

Running out of juice when you’re chatting on your mobile, battling aliens on your PSP or listening to your iPod is one of the most annoying things known to mankind. Well it’s irritating nonetheless. Thankfully portable gizmos are rechargeable, so you simply plug them into the nearest socket and wait.

Ever dropped a camera? Yep; exactly what we thought. This little beauty is the one for you, not only has it got a sturdy outer shell of armour, it takes photos and videos three metres under water.

Sony Ericsson, Xperia PLAY

So what does this miniature hero bring to the table, I hear you ask. Well it has games from the PlayStation 1 already available to purchase, plus they’re working on getting PlayStation 2 games ready for the future. The only problem we see with this device is the battery power; if you’re using it as a phone it’s fine and has a decent battery life, but if you’re using it for what it was made for (“hardcore online gaming”) then it only lasts seven hours tops (this was with continuous gameplay.) It’s perfect for when you’re at a festival and want to step away from the madness for two minutes - plug in, switch on and enjoy.

Sony Ericsson, Xperia PLAY Free on £35 a month price plan at www.vodafone.com

But what do you do when you’re nowhere near a power source? Well it just so happens that, unless you’re reading this from the Planet Tharg, you’re always near a power source: the sun. FreeLoader Origional Solar Charger From: £29.99 www.firebox.com

3. Never Without Cash Stash Keychain

Have you ever been out and realised that you’ve spent up? With each bank you go to having been raped the money out of then this is the key literally! Cash stash Keychain From: £3.99 www.firebox.com

Kodak Easyshare Sport

Another little bonus is its easy share option which allows you to easily upload your images to Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, YouTube and email with the quick touch of a button. Literally plug in, choose your social networking site and upload - it’s as easy as peas. It boasts a 12MP camera and records really nicely too; the fact that it’s waterproof also makes it very durable during the festival season, repelling the rain and sludge. At £59.99 it’s a steal and you have the choice of either orange or yellow.

Nicole Scherzinger Killer Love

Britney Spears Femme Fatale

We can’t ignore the former pop princess’s new album release; she is a legend after all. This is the pop icon’s seventh studio album to be released with Hold it Against Me serving as the lead single to be released from it. Since her glory days, Britney has been opting for dance music over her typical pop tunes that captivated her young audience and the same is true of this album. There are a few decent tracks on this album but they seem to be a bit of a mismatch of styles and quality. Gasoline and I Wanna Go might be a worth a listen whilst you’re getting ready for a night out as they’re upbeat and catchy, but I’d definitely avoid How I Roll and Big Fat Bass (surprisingly this track features Will.i.am). Overall, this is a disappointing effort on Ms Spears’ part!

Nicole Scherzinger seems to go from strength to strength in her musical endeavours! Starting with phenomenal success in the all-girl pop group Pussycat Dolls, she has since branched out to become an even greater success with a solo career. Her latest album is no exception to her success and it’s not surprising with the enlisting of producer RedOne (known for his work with our beloved Lady Gaga) to help out with the album’s sound. Every song on the album is brilliant, fresh and throws in elements of all musical genres with a bit of rock, a bit of punk and bit of R&B all jumbled in. It’s difficult to pick out my favourites of this album but if I have to name a couple of songs for listening to, I’d recommend Say Yes and Don’t Hold Your Breath (being a bigger fan of her party tunes than her slower ones)! Glee

The Music Volume 5 Yes that’s right; Glee has already produced their sixth soundtrack album with a compilation of the hit TV series’ songs! It’s hard not to fall in love with the programme - and indeed this album - since it covers a wide variety of classics and contemporary songs in an original and unfailingly catchy way! This album’s selection features some excellent mash-ups and covers everyone from Michael Jackson to Queen to the 80’s synth-pop legends, The Human League. However, it’s easy to find flaws without looking too hard, and whilst Glee covers a variety of genres, the songs generally follow the same ‘show-tune’ format transformation. Nonetheless, I’m a big fan of Glee and, hey - if they get people to broaden their musical horizons then why complain? My personal favourites of this album are Thriller/Heads Will Roll and Prince’s Kiss with their funky reworking of sexy classics. Available at www.hmv.com Price : £8.99 free UK delivery

*HEAR

I know exactly what you’re thinking; how does so much noise come out of something so small? Well this is the ultimate in portable speakers with its miniature but mighty 2.4 watts output - when it’s expanded it’s a little beast. One of the best features for me is the 7 hours of battery life so no need to keep charging all the time. It also comes with the standard earphone output so all MP3/MP4 players will plug in and play off this, as well as a lot of new phones such as Blackberrys and iPhones. Purchase yours now from firebox.com - only available in black but for £12.99 who can moan?

PHYCHOSIS HOLOCAUST

UP AND COMING SHEFFIELD RAP LEGEND

Jargon V.A

1. Who was your inspiration to start “Adventure Rap”?

Feat: Tinie Tempah A new insight into the minds of the duo which is Jargon V.A; the guys have done it again and released a new edition to Tinie Tempah’s “Disappoint You” the guys will be releasing this banger for free soon on www.jargonva.com, join the guys on facebook for updates on new releases and where to get the freebies. The tracks Grime vs Funky and is a great addition to anyone’s iPod.

Well it wasn’t just me; it was a few of us. Basically, way before the concept even came into our heads we used to freestyle in those kind of bars for hours; myself and Flex Digits with Pseudonym and Saint Bastard from Darwen in Lancashire. It just hit us one day that it might be a laugh to make an EP, get Saint Bastard (one of our producers) to sample a few classic fantasy themes and just put the album out for free. However, that shortly grew into a 12 track album, and it’s actually now one of the main things we are known for! We went to loads of battle events around the country selling them and got lots of good feedback from people.

2. When and where was your first battle?

Well I have battled in many ‘Don’t Flop’ UK events but my first battle was here in Sheffield. I had been involved with ‘Don’t Flop’ for a long time before that though; I used to film the majority of their events and was good mates with guys like Respek BA and Erugh way before I was asked to battle. I had always been an MC who made raw, anger based music so battling suited me well. Not only that, I had been a massive fan of the UK rap battle scene for years, so getting asked to take part in it was amazing. ‘Don’t Flop’ is great for up and coming talent to showcase their skills; I would recommend any MC to give it a go, providing they think they have the skills needed....

3. As a Sheffield-born rap mini star, what’s next on your agenda?

We have now set up our own label ‘Prison Planet Records’, and for that we have a TON of stuff planned! I don’t want to go into too much of it now - I am a strong believer in not unveiling anything until it’s ready and you can just let it speak for itself. However, we have been filming loads of music videos which you can find on YouTube at ‘youtube.com/PrisonPlanetRecords’, (where you can also find some free downloads in the descriptions), which are mostly in build up to my debut solo album ‘End Game’. My first solo project, the album features some massive names in UK hip hop and grime and I can’t wait to get it released!

FREE www.jargonva.com http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTm8Icl0kz8

4. Who are your influences?

At the minute Ghetts and P. Money are destroying sh*t! I really can’t decide who is going harder at the moment, but they are two guys I am so proud to have representing the UK. Bringing it closer to home, all the Bad Taste crew are really killing it at the minute: Shinobi, Kase, TezKidd - the list goes on. But to be honest, I get my main influence just being around my Prison Planet heads: Flex, Pseudonym, Chronicle, Ohpityme - ciphering with your boys is the best influence you can get in my opinion, it’s that competition that keeps us all hungry and wanting to write the best concept and rhyme scene.

5. When are you next battling?

My next battle is in Sheffield funnily enough! It’s where I debut and seven battles later I am bringing it home to battle H.Bomb from Australia - a girl! Believe it or not, I requested to battle her. I think taking on a girl (and a good battler at that) would be a great opportunity that you don’t get that often, so that’s my next one! Get yourselves down for it, June 25th, I don’t know what venue I’m in, but I’ll shout these guys to drop an advert in the mag when we do! So keep posted yo! In the mean time check out dontflop.com to see how sh*t usually goes down!

Yet another Jake Gyllenhaal film! This sci-fi/thriller/action film will keep you entertained if you’re a fan of the genre. This Matrix-meets-Ground Hog Day-meets-James Bond film can get your head in a bit of a twist when you’re trying to work out what’s going on and how the story is going to end. However, it’s certainly an entertaining plot, if not entirely original. Put as simply as possible (given the complex storyline), Jake Gyllenhaal’s character is sent on a mission to discover who planted a bomb on a train (in order to prevent a future, even bigger bomb-detonation). This involves him travelling back to a parallel reality version of the past in which he is back on the train. He also happens to meet an enchanting woman in the eight minutes before the explosion… Will he be able to alter the past and prevent her death?

Beleaguered Castle, the company that runs the Source Code project, takes its name from a variation on the game of solitaire. The commuter train map posted inside the rail car was actually the map of the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). The line colours were altered.

Seeing the adverts for this film might put you off it if you’re over the age of six years old, since it’s a blend of animated characters and real humans. However, this festive Easter-themed film will provide you with some good light-hearted entertainment which caters to an adult’s needs, as well as those of the kids. With such a high-profile cast (with the likes of Hugh Laurie, Russell Brand and James Marsden) you could perhaps expect a relatively entertaining plotline and it does deliver. The young E.B turns his back on his inherited role of the Easter Bunny and instead sets off to make it as drummer (bumping into Playboy founder Hugh Hefner on the way!). Will he succeed? Watch the film and find out! The ending may be slightly predictable but the lead-up is a more original and entertaining watch than you might think.

For those of you who are fans of the comedy “IT Crowd”, then you may appreciate this film which is the directorial debut of its star, Richard Ayoade. This comedy-drama is an unexpectedly wonderful film, blending humour with some brilliantly poignant moments. It’s not the sort of polished comedy that you may find on the Hollywood scene but there’s something universal about this comedy set in South Wales. This film is about an awkward adolescent boy- who happens to be a genius-who finds the girl of his dreams in school and must balance their tempestuous relationship whilst fearing for that of his parents. Naturally there are obstacles for the protagonist to overcome, but cliché as the story might sound, this is an original cinematic piece which will make you laugh out loud! A brilliant film based on the excellent book by Joe Dunthorne, I definitely advise viewers to go out and watch this one.
