I hope this issue of the STATellite finds you doing well as we approach the end of another great school year. The Science Teachers Association of Texas has several upcoming events that you should be aware of at this time. First of all, we will hold our second annual Summer Leadership Institute (SLI). The SLI will be held in Galveston on July 6th – 8th at the Tremont Hotel. Registration is limited to 150 educators. The SLI is family friendly. There will be leadership sessions in the mornings with field trips in the afternoons. Secondly, CAST 2014 will be held at the Dallas Hilton Anatole November 20 – 22, 2014. Housing is now available. Please be aware that you can only book through the STAT website or the Hilton Anatole. Scammers have been calling and emailing members to get them to book rooms through their sites. The proposal site is now closed and proposals are being graded. Members who submitted proposals will be notified in June. Please be on the lookout for registration which will open August 15. The Dallas CAST 2014 group has been busy planning many free activities for attendees including a CSI themed social with stations and prizes. Each year at CAST, we honor outstanding science educators and an administrator. Award winners receive a variety of prizes and recognition, including plaques, honorariums,

and VIP tickets to CAST 2014 events. Our profession does not recognize enough outstanding educators. So, take the time to nominate yourself or a colleague. Many areas of the state have been holding Mini-CASTS. The attendance at each continues to increase. Many of the Executive Committee have been able to attend the events and reported that teachers have been energized after attending. Hopefully, you will attend a MiniCAST in your area over the next year. The National Science Teachers Association held its annual STEM conference last week in New Orleans. Many STAT members attended and walked away with great ideas on how to integrate science and math as well as ways to include engineering during science instruction. It was a great conference. Are you ready for a long summer siesta? The Executive Committee hopes that you have a fantastic vacation. Take the time to relax and rejuvenate.
