‘ALARMING’: ROZUL REEF STRIPPED OF ITS CORALS

THE Armed Forces of the Philippines on Saturday reported massive coral harvesting in Rozul Reef in the West Philippine Sea where Chinese militia vessels were seen swarming.
AFP Western Command head Vice Admiral Albert Carlos said the area was completely stripped of its corals.
“The areas where there was swarming, we have pinpointed these. And then when they left, we sent out our divers to do a water survey and we saw there were no more corals. There we only debris,” Carlos said. Rozul Reef, also known as Iroquois Reef, lies within the country’s 200 nautical-mile Exclusive Economic Zone and continental shelf.
“This is alarming because as far as WesCom is concerned, it is our duty to protect sovereign rights for Filipinos. Our fellow countrymen should be the ones enjoying the resources in our EEZ,” he added.
The military official, however, said they are not yet officially blaming the Chinese militia vessels even if they have their own suspicions.
“It is just our suspicion for now. We are not saying they are harvesting our corals. But we suspect that somebody is harvesting our corals and that means they are violating

THE Philippines and the United States militaries are planning for at least 500 bilateral engagements in 2024, the Armed Forces of the Philippines said yesterday.
The AFP and the US Indo-Pacific Command reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen ties amid tensions in the Indo-Pacific region during the annual Mutual Defense Board - Security Engagement Board (MDB-SEB) meeting on September 14 at Camp Aguinaldo.
The two countries discussed the inclusion of exercises and highlevel exchanges for next year’s activities, which include maritime security, information sharing, and capacity and capability development among others.
By Alena Mae S. Flores and Joel ZurbanoBURDENED with the oil price increases for 10 consecutive weeks now? The Department of Energy has this advice: Be “wise” in buying fuel.
As pump prices are expected to go up by P2.40 per liter next week –higher than the original forecast –DOE director for the oil industry management bureau Rodela Romero said consumers should look for retail stations that offer lower pump prices.
“Let’s be wise and use the power of choice,” she said in a television interview, noting that based on the monitoring of the DOE, some stations offer discounts of as much as P4 per liter.
Romero said there were “price war areas” such as in Commonwealth Avenue in Quezon City where some small or independent oil firms offer cheaper fuel.

THE city governments of Las Piñas and Taguig have started distributing cash assistance to rice retailers affected by the mandatory rice price ceilings in public markets.
Mayor Imelda Aguilar has distributed P15,000 in cash assistance to 139 beneficiaries in Las Piñas in response to rising rice prices. She said the City Agriculture Office and the City Social Welfare and Development Office are working on a more comprehensive plan to support local rice traders and vendors.
The cash assistance aims to provide immediate relief to these small businesses, empowering them to con-
tinue operations and contribute to stabilizing the rice supply in the community.
In Taguig, Mayor Laarni Cayetano attended and supervised the first day of cash distribution to 15 micro rice retailers in Embo barangays.
She said apart from local programs, her administration will support measures of the national government to sustain progress in the community.
“We are ready to unite and help the national government so that we can reach out to those who are in need,” said Cayetano.
The cash payouts, amounting to P15,000, are in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to assist rice retailers most affected by Executive Order No. 39, which temporarily imposed a rice price ceiling.
EO 39 sets regular milled rice prices at P41 per kilo and well-milled rice at P45 per kilo.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development has initiated the distribution of P15,000 aid to qualified rice traders in Metro Manila.
Mayors in Metro Manila also provided financial aid, free marketplace rent, and livelihood assistance to rice retailers.
The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is assisting local government units to monitor the prices of rice in public markets in support of the implementation of EO 39.
Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benjamin Abalos Jr. earlier urged the Metro Manila Councilors League to pass an ordinance to assist rice retailers with the capital loss that they may have incurred.
Mandaluyong City is one of the first local government units that passed an ordinance to help rice retailers suspend the assessment and collection of market stall fees from rice retailers in Mandaluyong Public Markets 1 and 2 from September 5, 2023, to October 5, 2023.
A LEGISLATOR from the Bicol Region is asking Congress to expedite the passage of two measures that increase the pay of some 800,000 public school teachers.
Camarines Sur Rep. Luis Raymund
Villafuerte aired the appeal in support of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s commitment in his 2023 campaign promise for a salary increase for these teachers to help them cope with the ever-increasing cost of living.
Villafuerte and three fellow CamSur representatives have authored House Bill (HB) 1851 mandating a significant increase in the salary grade level of public elementary and
high school teachers from Grade 11 to Grade 19. They likewise authored HB 1849 which seeks to make permanent the school supplies’ allowance of P5,000 that public school teachers have been entitled to during the Covid-19 pandemic to lessen their burden in coughing up their money to deliver education services during the hybrid learning system of face-to-face and remote or online teaching.
Villafuerte sought the fast approval of the two complementary bills after Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte bared a directive from Marcos for the DepEd to study how to further adjust the
salaries of public school teachers that are over and above the wage increase that they receive annually under the Salary Standardization Law (SSL).
School Year 2023-2024 opened for public schools on August 29 with the total number of registered students exceeding 24 million.
“So, we are waiting for the result of that study that should be based on the inflation rate and the economic indicators in the coming year,” Duterte said.
Villafuerte supported the President’s directive to the DepEd as he pointed out that, “Despite their heavy workload and essential role as agents of constructive intellec -
THE Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has signed a memorandum of agreement with the Galing Pook Foundation to establish the “Walang Gutom Awards.
The agency said the Walang Gutom Awards aims to recognize the most innovative and effective programs of local government units (LGUs) in addressing food insecurity and hunger around the country.
DSWD Assistant Secretary for Strategic Communications Romel Lopez, said the agency being on top of the Inter-Agency Task Force on Zero Hunger (IATF-ZH), is fortunate to have a partnership with Galing Pook.
“This will be an important step to recognize our LGU partners for their valuable contribution to the implementation of our initiatives to achieve a healthy and hungerfree Philippines,” Lopez, who is also DSWD spokesperson, said.
The MOA features the development of criteria, evaluation metrics, award process, and provision of financial incentives to the winning LGUs.
It also includes the obligations of the DSWD and Galing Pook in conducting the Walang Gutom Roadshow to LGUs, which is a capacity building initiative that will help them increase their knowledge, skills, and capabilities in developing sustainable and innovative solutions to address hunger and food insecurity.
tual, social, cultural, political and moral change in our society, our public school teachers are among the most underpaid workers in the country.”
“Increasing their take-home pay and providing for a permanent teaching supplies allowance with a provision for a steady bump per schoolyear (SY) will hopefully incentivize them to strive for excellence in their field and make teaching a more attractive profession for our students.”
The Department of Education (DepEd) last week kicked off the annual month-long celebration of National Teachers’ Month, which will run till October 5.

MEXICO extradited the son of Sinaloa Cartel kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman to the United States to face narcotics charges, US Attorney General Merrick Garland said.
Ovidio Guzman Lopez, also known as “El Raton” or “The Mouse,” was indicted earlier this year on drug trafficking charges linked to the fentanyl crisis plaguing the United States. His father was convicted in 2019 of
running what was believed to bethe world’s biggest narcotics syndicate and is serving life in a supermax prison in the state of Colorado.
Garland hailed the extradition as “the most recent step in the Justice Department’s effort to attack every aspect of the cartel’s operations.”
“The Justice Department will continue to hold accountable those responsible for fueling the opioid epidemic that has devastated too many communities across the country.”
The White House also lauded the extradition as part of “ongoing cooperation” with Mexico, a sign the administration of President Joe Biden is eager to get past the friction with
Mexico over anti narcotics efforts.
“We thank our Mexican counterparts for their partnership in working to safeguard our peoples from violent criminals,” read the statement byHomeland Security Advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall, released by the White House. Cooperation between Mexican and US security forces plunged last year after Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador disbanded a unitthat had worked closely with US Drug Enforcement Administration agents for more than a quarter century. The Mexican leader had accused US agents of “abusive interference” in his country’s affairs.

THE Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Saturday it is prepared to help in the ongoing rescue and relief efforts in Morocco, which is reeling from the effects of a magnitude 6.8 earthquake.
The earthquake destroyed many communities and killed nearly 3,000 people, reports said.
“We are deeply saddened by the aftermath of the earthquake that hit Morocco. We want to assure Morocco that the Philippines is more than willing to extend assistance to support the ongoing response operations. We are organizing a humanitarian contingent for possible deployment,” OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno,
said in a statement.
Nepomuceno said the OCD, as the executive arm of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), is already making arrangements and is looking into the possible deployment of the Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent (PIAHC) to Morocco where search, rescue, and retrieval operations are still ongoing.
The contingent will consist of personnel from the OCD, 525th
Engineering Combat Battalion of the Philippine Army, 505th Search and Rescue Group of the Philippine Air Force, Bureau of Fire ProtectionSpecial Rescue Unit, Metropolitan Manila Development Authority, Davao Rescue 911, and Department of Health.
In February this year, the Philippines sent an 82-man PIAHC to Turkiye to assist in the response operations of the quake-ravaged country.
The magnitude 7.8 earthquake that hit Turkiye and Syria left 50,288 deaths and 125,857 injured individuals.
This contingent assisted in medical and search, rescue, and retrieval operations.

THE Department of Agriculture (DA) will establish a Livestock Animal Registry (LAR) to ensure that government assistance intended for repopulation and disease control trickle down to legitimate livestock farmers.
Agriculture Undersecretary Deogracias Victor B. Savellano said the DA will partner with the private sector in establishing the LAR.
“This will identify how many and where are the different farm animals and to whom should the government give any form of subsidy from funds earmarked by the government,’ he said at the general assembly of the National Federation of Hog Farmers, Inc.(NATFED) held recently. The DA’s partnership with the private sector will also ensure accurate industry data and will encourage industry leaders to come up with the best business decisions.
Citing reports by the Philippine Statistics Authority, Savellano said there are currently 10.2 million pigs, however, unconfirmed reports showed there could 7.5 to 8 million pigs, if losses from African Swine Fev r (ASF), estimated at around 40 percent, should be considered.
The DA will also study ways to help livestock farmers cut the costs of farm inputs such as feed ingredients and livestock genetics. The aim is to ease farmers’ burden on costs, while indemnification system will further be improved to aid affected livestock owners. Othel V. Campos
A LEGISLATOR has filed a bill that would incentivize farmers and fisherfolks and provide scholarships to their children and dependents.
Meanwhile, Nepomuceno, who is also NDRRMC executive director, said the earthquake in Morocco is a stark reminder for all to continuously prepare against the threat of earthquakes, especially the big ones.
He called on the general public and other stakeholders to actively take part in the government’s earthquake resilience endeavors.
“It is terrifying that in just seconds, an earthquake could claim many lives and leave massive destruction. Through the whole-of-government and whole-of-nation approach, we should strengthen our prevention, mitigation, and preparedness measures against earthquakes,” he said.
THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Saturday joined International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) Day activities in Manila Bay as part of its commitment to save the environment.
MMDA general manager Procopio Lipana led the volunteers and staff of various government agencies in cleaning and collecting garbage in the area.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the
Department of Interior and Local Government, the Philippine Coast Guard, and the Pasay City government also supported the cleanup.
The ICC, which is held every third Saturday in September, is the largest volunteer effort for coastal resources.
People around the world gather on beaches, coasts, rivers, waterways and underwater dive sites to remove trash and record information on the debris collected. Results will aid in better waste management policies/plans, prod-
uct packaging designs and in stirring environmental consciousness among the people.
“We called on everyone to take part in this activity that will bring together national agencies, local government units, environmentalists and volunteers to collect trash littering the coastline,” said Lipana.
Volunteers brought cleaning materials, gloves and sacks in removing trash in the foreshore areas of Manila. Most of the collected garbage at the bay are bamboo poles and driftwood which had
been carried by currents from nearby fish pens, water hyacinths, plastics, household waste, and other sorts of garbage.
The MMDA tapped members of the agency’s Road Emergency Group to administer medical assistance in case anyone gets injured.

THE administration and the offices of Speaker Martin Romualdez and Tingog Party-list led the distribution of P5,000 cash aid to some 2,000 beneficiaries from the 1st district of Zambales under the government’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.
Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre, in cooperation with Zambales 1st District Rep. Jay Khonghun and the Department of Social and Welfare Development, extended the timely aid to needy individuals and families.
“It is our distinct honor that Tingog Party-list has partnered with the
1st district of Zambales,” said Rep. Yedda Romualdez.
Beneficiaries of the AICS payout included PWDs and solo parents as well as Tulungan ang Bayan at Kabuhayan (TABAK) members.
The Khonghun clan formed the TABAK organization, whose members come from a variety of local industries, including from the transport sector.
Aside from the financial assistance given to the beneficiaries, Tingog Party-list also gave prizes to be raffled off, including grocery packages, sacks of rice, electric fans, rice cookers, refrigerators, smart TVs, bicycles, and two motorcycles.
Davao City Rep. Paolo Duterte filed House Bill 9095 also known as the Educational Scholarship for Children and Dependents of Farmers and Fisherfolks Act of 2023. The bill aims to provide full scholarships for the children and dependents of farmers and fishermen listed in the Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA).
“The country’s agricultural industry has suffered the largest employment drop in 2022. The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reports stated that the agricultural sector —agriculture, forestry, fishing, and aquaculture industries — had its share of total employment fall from 24.5 percent (9.7 million) in October 2020 and 24.6 percent (10.77 million) in October 2021 to 22.5 percent (10.60 million) in October 2022,” Duterte explained.
Duterte added that according to PSA, the country’s farmers and fisherfolks remain to be the “poorest in the country” with a poverty incidence rate of 30.6 percent in 2021. Maricel V. Cruz
THE Bureau of Customs (BOC) is considering donating the confiscated 42,180 bags of imported rice to some departments implementing government assistance programs.
The smuggled rice, amounting to P42 million, was seized during a raid at a warehouse in Barangay San Jose Gusu in Zamboanga City, BOC - Port of Zamboanga chief Benito Lontok said during the Saturday News Forum in Quezon City.
Lontok said the plan to donate the smuggled rice for the implementation of the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Kadiwa Program and the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s (DSWD) assistance programs is still “subject to approval” of BOC Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio and Finance Secretary Benjamin Diokno.
“Idu-donate po yata sa (It might be donated for the implementation of a) government program, I don’t know po kung Kadiwa or sa DSWD (if it would be donated for Kadiwa or DSWD’s programs). Pero ‘yun po ay pinag-uusapan pa (It is still being discussed),” he said.
The BOC - Port of Zamboanga first inspected the warehouse on May 19 after receiving information that smuggled rice was being stored there.
FARMTEC Foods
Inc. owner and president
Fabian Espiritu has been in the food semi-processing business for a long time, working with companies and cooperatives, before he decided to become an entrepreneur.
Farmtec is a processor of dehydrated natural food, used as ingredients by local and multinational food manufacturing companies.
“I have the knowledge of technology. I know the market and I know where to source the ingredients. My only regret is that I don’t have the kind of money needed to start big. So I went through the rigorous motion of fabricating my own machines, however crude they may be at first,” Espiritu said, recalling the pains of being a small start-up at the time when technology was not as advanced as it is today.
Espiritu set up his small plant in the family garage where a small oven, converted as dryer and powered by LPG, served his first equipment to dry fresh food and grind them into semiprocessed food ingredients used for a variety of products and preparations.
Without a proper grinding machine, he asked permission from his former company to temporarily use the plant’s equipment to pulverize “alamang” or shrimp fry, his first product. Farmtec is one of the very first Filipino companies to introduce shrimp flavoring in powder form.
A local snacks giant became one of the very first clients to buy Farmtec’s ground shrimp seasoning. All of Farmtec’s raw materials are sourced from the different parts of the country where raw food sources are abundant. The company gets its the bulk of alamang requirement from Hagonoy, Bulacan and some from Laguna Lake fishers.
Food ingredients
Farmtec supplies food ingredients to the country’s big food companies. It is the technology behind the popular sinigang mix, the flavoring for many snack foods and the spice to numerous canned food such as sardines and other spicy preparations available in the local market.
True to the claim of sinigang mix commercials, the condiment is made from real tamarind, boiled, dried and pulverized to fine powder which is a demand diligently served by Farmtec to food manufacturers in more than 30 years.
Espiritu confessed one fun fact about the popular sinigang mix Filipinos love to use for the local sour stew (sinigang).
“The powder mix is actually made from the entire fruit itself—pulp, seeds and rind—boiled, dried and ground together to create a solid,
sour flavor. At first, the company I’m supplying it with was more concerned of the color of the powder. Soon, they realized what is important is that we have found a way to capture the desired sourness,” he said.
Tamarind, shrimp fry and chili are Farmtec’s first main products, and the demand for these flavorings have grown so big that Espiritu had to comb the entire country to look for new areas that could supplement the company’s production requirement.
From the fresh seafood markets of Hagonoy where shrimp fries abound, to the farms of Batangas, a major source of sampalok, down north to the chili farms of Nueva Ecija and Isabella, Espiritu scoured the country to secure his needed supply.
The lack of local chili supply prompted the company to source the product outside the country. To date, the company sources 90 percent of its semi-processed chili requirement from India, while the rest are locally-sourced.
Through its 33 years in the business, Farmtec has forged numerous alliances not only with farmers and raw food suppliers but also with food manufacturers and the government.
Espiritu said the government, in reaching out to Farmtec, provided the technological boost and the marketing support that pushed the company to go beyond what it can do as a natural food ingredients manufacturer.
It has consistently received assistance from the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in terms of equipment support and trainings to upskill its workers.
Espiritu, now 83, also remembers how the DOST once pushed Farmtec to dabble into noodles manufacturing using squash, purple yam and malunggay as main ingredients.
But unlike food ingredients which are sold in bulk and in institutional volume, retailing
the nutrition-packed noodles was slow and tedious, particularly in an unresponsive domestic market. Despite that, the noodles reached Japan as the company tried to export the product.
Farmtec produces over 40 different food ingredients, processing fresh fruits and vegetables into powdered fruit juices used to flavor commercially-prepared juice mixes; herbs used as alternative medicines like lagundi and sambong; dehydrated vegetables used as condiments; and dried seafood as a seasoning product.
It has acquired a special technology to produce spray-dried fruit powder in its purest form, the same technology it uses to produce its very fine and potent malunggay powder.
“The process is a bit tricky. For malunggay we have to start processing the leaves within the first 2 hours of harvest by preparing the leaves through series of processes, the major procedure is the extraction of juice before it enters the chambers of the spray-dryer. The dehydration process is a state-of-the art procedure,” Espiritu said.
The company uses the spray-drying technology to dehydrate fruits like calamansi, dalandan, guyabano, watermelon, pineapple, honeydew, passion fruit, mango, melon and avocado as well as herbs such as malunggay leaves, ampalaya leaves, lagundi, banaba, sambong, balbas ng pusa, pandan leaves, guyabano leaves, guava leaves, saluyot and camote leaves.
Farmtec also processes chili, turmeric, ginger powder, onion, bayleaves, guava fruit, VCO, coconut cream, shrimp, anchovy, yam, taro, sweet potato and squash.
Recognitions
As the main and preferred supplier of foods ingredients, Farmtec has received numerous awards in various categories and capacities. Its contribution to the development of the local food industry has been key to its recognition by various government and academic institutions.
In 2007, Espiritu received the Distinguished Alumnus in Agribusiness and Food Processing award from the University of the Philippines, Los Baños (UPLB) for its use of indigenous raw materials as ingredients for food processing, and as major producer of dehydrated ingredients. The company has also been cited in the Pro-active Program 2012 Search for Model Company by the DTI. It also emerged as the regional and national winner for the Best Setup Adaptor by DOST, under the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program; and the regional and national winner in the Best in Productivity Program by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
In 2003, Farmtec received its first nomination for the Entrepreneur of the Year Award, a global program of Ernst and Young and special citation of 5S Good Housekeeping from the Export Development Council (EDC) of the DTI.
In addition to recognitions it has earned over time, Farmtec maintains very strict operation and production conduct. It has received its HALAL certification from the Islamic Da’wah Council of the Philippines Inc. (IDCP) and the Halal Development Institute of the Philippines (HDIP), two of the trusted HALAL certification bodies in the Philippines.
The company was also HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points)-certified under the ISO 22000 standard developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and is now in the process of renewing its Food Safety System Certification (FSSC) 22000. Othel V. Campos

China’s BYD, for instance, is resolutely committed to becoming a global leader not only in electric vehicles (EVs) but also in matching the world’s premier car manufacturers. Multiple other Chinese companies are hot on their heels, introducing innovative technologies and establishing China as a formidable force in the realm of EVs.
Recognizing the intensifying competition on his home turf, Tesla’s Elon Musk has initiated a price war, attempting to reduce the cost of owning a Tesla vehicle, even in the Chinese market. Musk’s strategic move is causing discomfort among his rivals, with several Chinese EV manufacturers reportedly facing challenges due to the high costs of EV production and limited funding.
Yet, the cutthroat competition among EV manufacturers is just one facet of the challenges confronting the EV market. There remains a persistent demand for ICE vehicles among consumers, alongside the popularity of hybrid cars among Japanese automakers, who have long influenced the preferences of markets like the Philippines. Many Japanese automakers are hesitant to fully commit to electric vehicles, instead opting to develop hybrid vehicles that can run on both fossil fuels and batteries. Their rationale centers on the belief that hybrids offer a more environmentally conscious solution compared to a direct shift to electricity, which entails higher energy consumption during production.
This bifurcation presents another obstacle for EV proponents, especially when other prominent car manufacturers continue to produce ICE vehicles, which are often viewed as more economically viable and dependable over the long term by a majority of consumers.
With great anticipation, the upcoming Tokyo Mobility Show (formerly Tokyo Motor Show) is expected to provide a glimpse of what the near future holds for the automotive industry. The world eagerly awaits to see the offerings and innovations that will emerge from this event.
Indeed, the Japanese automotive industry remains a formidable player on the global stage, and its direction will be closely watched by enthusiasts and industry experts alike. The future of the automotive world is poised for exciting developments, and the contributions of Japanese automakers will undoubtedly play a crucial role in shaping that future.

further improved cloud broadcast technologies, we will bring a more engaging viewing experience to the global audience and sports fans.”
“The Hangzhou Asian Games will be another milestone for Alibaba Cloud to show how robust, scalable, and secure cloud computing technologies can help drive the digital transformation of large-scale sports events to bring sports and entertainment to every corner of the world,” Yuan added.
STATE-OF-THE-ART
Alibaba Cloud provides the fundamental architecture that supports the seamless integration of the core systems as well as intelligent applications such as cloud broadcasting and event organization and communications. For example, at the end of each competition, the Results Distribution System will receive data from the timing and scoring system at the venue, which will be further integrated into the central system for distribution in di erent formats through di erent application programming interfaces (APIs), such as the results display and news feeds. All of these are built on the Alibaba Cloud to ensure e cient, accurate, and stable results distributions.
Using cloud-native technology and running it on Alibaba Cloud’s container services, the company enables more agile, scalable, and e cient operations of the event. In addition, there is no longer a need for physical data centers that require large, dedicated space and maintenance facilities to run. Cloud resources will be released once the event is concluded, making the games more environmentally friendly.
5,000 HOURS
The Hangzhou Asian Games will also be the rst in the games’ history during which Rights-Holding Broadcasters (RHBs) will receive live footage through public cloud infrastructure. Alibaba Cloud expects to transmit more than 5,000 hours of live footage through as many as 68 high-de nition (HD) and ultra-highde nition (UHD) feeds during the event. In addition to live broadcasts, the cloud-based content platform delivers footage in HD or UHD, highlights of the Games, and news ashes for RHBs to present to the audience’s mobile or other devices.
During the Games, cloud broadcasting will transcend physical boundaries and bring excitement to audiences across Asia and the rest of the world, through Alibaba Cloud’s infrastructure and services in Hangzhou to ApsaraVideo Live Centers in Shanghai and Beijing as well as regional cloud resources in Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (SAR) and Singapore. Prior to cloud broadcasting, broadcasters had to rely on
dedicated and more costly international telecommunication optical circuits and spend a considerable amount of time to set up the equipment, in order to send live footage halfway across the globe back to their home countries. Now leveraging the highly scalable, resilient, and secure global infrastructure of Alibaba Cloud and its network acceleration service –Global Accelerator, live multilateral content in high quality over the public cloud with a fraction of the cost and minimum time for set-up can be delivered.
CLOUD TECHNOLOGY
The Hangzhou Asian Games has launched an Intelligent Operation Platform to manage the operation of the three Asian Games Villages, which are expected to host over 20,000 athletes, reporters and o cials. The platform leverages Alibaba Cloud’s advanced visualization tool to analyze real-time intelligence to further streamline the management system while providing a more seamless user experience for those who live in the Villages.

S Bataan’s seat of government and the province’s center for trade and industry, Balanga is one of the most a uent towns in the area. It was inaugurated as a city on December 30, 2000 through Republic Act 8984. Agriculture has always been its chief industry, with shing providing a steady source of income to residents near the sea or rivers.
Legends claim that the name “Balanga” was derived from a pot used for cooking or fetching water. This cooking pot, made with a special clay, is locally known as “banga” or “balanga.” During the Spanish occupation, the early community often used this pot for fetching water, and the Spaniards would ask what they called it, and they would answer, “banga.” The Spaniards would repeat the word until they adopted the community’s name.
Guiding Balanga residents and preserving the city’s economic status is incumbent mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia, who rst assumed the position in 2016 and again in 2022, when he ran unopposed. Garcia wasted no time improving Balanga’s industries and communities. He focused on his advocacies, bringing great results to the city, including transforming it into a Smoke and Tobacco-Free Generation City. He also oversaw the implementation of excellent educational approaches, the establishment of computer facilities in villages and schools, and the creation of more job opportunities. It helps reinforce Balanga’s vision of becoming a Smart University Town by 2030, making it an established center for Global Technology Businesses.
ABOUT 905 cyclists joined the 6th Tobacco Free Generation (TFG) Bike Ride at the Plaza Mayor de Balanga.
SM City Bataan actively participated in the third quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) last September 7.
The earthquake drill, participated by shoppers, tenants, and employees, occurred during regular mall hours.
Evacuation and rescue drill simulations were carried out to increase and strengthen the mall’s Emergency Response Team preparedness and coordination among tasked units. Working hand in hand, the Medical and Search and Rescue Team gave rst aid treatment to a mock-up trauma victim at SM City Bataan.
Staged at exactly 2 p.m., the drill demonstrated various crisis scenarios of an earthquake to raise public awareness about the proper emergency response during and after this hazard. Employees and tenants were evacuated to the open spaces after the simulated earthquake drill at SM City Bataan.
On top of the simultaneous nationwide earthquake drill, SM City Bataan also conducts an annual refresher course for its employees, tenants, and afliates on re and earthquake preparedness. Topics like worst-case scenarios during re and earthquake, evacuation routes, and rst aid treatment were tackled to build contingency plans to meet the realities that an earthquake will present when it strikes.
Under his administration, he established the City Health Promotion Board and Barangay Learning Centers. He doesn’t shy away from embracing technological advancements that could bring longterm advantages, like equipping the youth with the appropriate skills required to navigate the modern world. He also provides school supplies to institutions across his jurisdiction to inspire its students to dedicate themselves to their studies and pursue brighter paths ahead.
Last month, he led the 2023 Youth Camp with the theme “Adolescent Friendly City: A Journey of Discovery.”
The camp was an ideal opportunity to strengthen Balanga City’s youth sector by conceptualizing, launching, and participating in projects that improve the younger generation’s social consciousness, like how to use social media responsibly, Adolescent Reproductive Health, and Teenage Pregnancy. Participating youth also learned about their tasks and responsibilities as leaders of Kabataang Balangueño.
In the meantime, the Balanga City Mayor also encourages investors to take a chance on Balanga, as they can play pivotal roles in leading its local industries and economies toward a more futuristic approach.
As an o shoot of continued progress and development in the province resulting from a continuous o er of outstanding incentives to investors, Balanga City has a growing demand for real estate, including residential and commercial properties for apartments, condominiums, convention centers, and o ce spaces.
Despite Garcia’s positive outlook for the future, he doesn’t forget to look back at the grassroots communities that contribute immensely to the prosperity of Balanga, namely the agriculture sector. He nds a perfect balance between implementing new agri-related technology and traditional yet tested methods to empower farmers while increasing their productivity.
Garcia is far from throwing in the towel in developing Balanga City into the progressive city he envisions, making it the standard for good governance and modernity in Bataan. Although it’s his nal term in o ce, he continues to intensify his e orts to meet the city’s 2030 vision and leave a lasting legacy that will bene t Balanga residents.
The City of Balanga has been a trailblazer in many healthrelated initiatives advocating for a tobacco-free generation wherein this annual event champions Ride to Protect the Future Generation through recreational and physical activities, such as biking towards healthy and smart living to make positive changes in their lives, such as quitting smoking. It also promotes improved quality of life and a cohesive community, bringing together Balanguenos and Bataenos for a uni ed cause.
THE City Government of Balanga, led by the City Council for the Protection of Children (CCPC), launched a threeday training for updating the Local Development Plan for Children last August 23.
It aims to strengthen the knowledge, practices, and skills in promoting and protecting children’s rights, as well as guiding the frameworks in developing and enriching plans related to the rights and further improving the Local Investment Plan for Children (LIPC) of the City of Balanga. The City Social Welfare and Development O ce (CSWD) led this activity.

De Leon also emphasized the importance of this exercise to focus on the quality of the city’s children’s programs.
The Good Governance Committee Chairperson Benigno Meriño reminded all to pay attention to this exercise, which will bring a thorough knowledge about the rights of young people.
Meanwhile, this three-day workshop contained a discussion from the Localization and Institutionalization Division (LID) of the Council for the Welfare of Children (CWC) POI Lance
Lagos, PO II, and CCPC Secretariat Zeta Marisse Navales, PO III/Regional Coordinator of Regional Sub-Committee for the Welfare of Children (RSCWC) Aple Shayne Lomoljo, and CWC Team. There was also sharing of knowledge through open mic discussion and presentation of outputs.
Committee Chairperson on Women and Family Ma. Liza Vasquez is grateful for the coordination and participation of those who attended. According to her, it can be hoped that the city will continue to strengthen relations with various agencies that can greatly improve the community.
In his message, Mayor Garcia discussed more e ective communication, with the collaboration of youth representatives, to further strengthen the voice of the youth. It will serve as a “freedom wall” where the younger generations can freely express
The event was made possible through the leadership of Mayor Francis Anthony S. Garcia, Vice-Mayor Vianca Lita V. COS returned to this September’s New York Fashion Week to present its Autumn Winter 2023 collection: an exploration of contrasts, where tradition meets innovation in an evolution of the COS archetypes.
The runway came to life within the Manhattan Classic Car Club against the backdrop of the Hudson River at sunset. The rich, deep brown catwalk surface contrasted with the iridescent shine of metallic sculptural forms that framed the space and captured the evening light.
Galvanized steel curves raised to reveal a soft, illuminating glow as the models walked the space, radiating confidence and ease in the elegant yet powerful collection - the 43 looks encapsulating the core principles of timelessness, uncompromising quality, and day-to-evening dressing.
Exploring functional yet innovative tailoring through methods of deconstruction, classic cuts are reinvented from the inside out. Trouser suits
are refined, and waistcoats reimagined, while confidently structured shoulders contrast fluid silk maxi-lengths, creating a bold visual statement and elongated silhouette. Standout head-to-toe knitwear looks in pared-back styles are finished with hoods, oversized fringed scarves, and hybrids that combine the utilitarian and the beautiful. Fringing on capes and dresses, and neck scarf detailing on shirts effortlessly elevate pieces from day to evening.
The show also debuted the Autumn Winter 2023 COS Atelier collection, marking the third capsule of its kind. Rooted in craftsmanship and innovation; an intricate hand-knitted crochet look features Responsible Mohair Standard mohair, while fine details include the delicate leather tassels that adorn wool outerwear, made from off-cut materials. Nature continues to inspire this season’s color
palette - soothing neutral tones complement rich earthy browns, alongside bespoke prints while matte textures meet metallics and shine.
Quality and longevity remain at the collection’s core; adjustable elements ensure the perfect fit of a classic well-tai lored suit, while reversible pieces deliver versatility ensuring each item serves a purpose. Everyday piec es are enhanced through exploratory textures – soft leather, herringbone, and chunky knits. Material consideration continues throughout, with over 92 per cent of the collection made from more sustainably sourced materials, including high-quality knits crafted from recycled and GCS cashmere.

IT’S easy to spot talent when you come across one, and Gello Marquez is definitely a fine example of someone who can stand out when he starts belting out a few notes and telling stories through a song.
Even award-winning composer Jonathan Manalo lauds Gello’s strength as a balladeer citing that he immediately recognized his potential as a recording artist.
“It’s unmistakable because he displayed clarity in his artistic choices and the direction he wished to take with his music. He took a hands-on approach in selecting songs and guiding the arrangement process, a critical aspect for an artist’s long-term success,” the composer said.
“His confidence and innate charm were immediately apparent. When he sings, smiles naturally follow, and his wit and engaging personality set him apart from other balladeers. That’s one of Gello’s distinct advantages – his unique
personality,” he added. The young singer proved this once again when his debut album under Star Music was recently launched.
Gello reveals that he feels extremely overwhelmed having his own album
Indeed, the Idol Philippines season 1 alumnus is more than ready to serenade music listeners.
“It’s pressuring in a way because while others release only singles, they believed in me enough to give me my own album. They took a risk and believed in my talent,” Gello told Manila Standard Entertainment in an interview.
“I used to just dream of having my own songs, but now they’ve given me an album. It’s extremely overwhelming for me that all of this is happening,” Gello added. The album has seven songs; they picked five songs for the album, and the other two were
specifically created for him. The songs include “Hanap Kong Baby,” “Kumot At Unan,” “Dudaduda,” “Kaibigan,” “Teddy Bear,” “Torpe,” and his first single “Penpen” released last month. The easy listening tracks were chosen based on his affinity for old songs.
“It’s a modernized version of old songs kasi sobrang love ko yung mga lumang kanta,” said Gello on his album.
The young actor-singer, previously seen in He’s Into Her and Love Bites, compares love to a game of hiding feelings and trying to find it in “Penpen.” Inspired by the Filipino game “Penpen de Sarapen,” “Penpen” was composed by Allan G. Alveyra Jr. and Karl James Fabregas
Gello also previously released the music video for “Penpen,” which features a love triangle between him, BGYO member Akira Morishita, and former Pinoy Big Brother Otso housemate Ashley del Mundo

NIKI treated her Filipino fans to electrifying performances during her first solo show in Manila on Wednesday at the SM Mall of Asia Arena. The concert was part of her globe-spanning Nicole tour, which kicked off in North America in May.
NIKI opened the Manila show by singing “Before,” the first track of her 2022 album. She also performed some of her heartbreaking songs such as “Keeping Tabs”, “Autumn”, “Anaheim”, “Take A Chance with Me,” and “La La Lost You.”
Before singing one of her top hits, “urs,” the 24-year-old artist expressed her gratitude to her fans for giving her
a sold-out concert.
“It’s so good to be back in Manila. It’s like my first ever headline arena show ever in my career, you guys sold out in like minutes,” said NIKI.
The concert marked a significant milestone for NIKI as it was her debut solo concert in Manila.
“Thank you so, so much. This would be nothing without you. Thank you for being here,” she added.
As she introduced another song, “The Apartment We Won’t Share,” NIKI described it as a track she wrote imagining a future with somebody but somehow wasn’t able to live it out.
“So sometimes, you get sad, and you hole up in your room and you write a song about it. And I did that,” NIKI continued as she began singing the first lines of the song.
NIKI then asked her fans to put
their lights up before singing “Oceans & Engines.” Then after taking a quick break, NIKI entered the stage once again wearing a high school ensemble for her performance of “High School in Jakarta.”
NIKI came back quickly to the stage because she knew she had to play the next two songs before wrapping up her concert.
The singer wrapped up the set with her hit song “lowkey” and let her thousands of fans sing every line with her.
“We’ve got one more song. You’re gonna give it all you’ve got, right?”
asked NIKI.
She ended the show singing “Every Summertime,” leaving her Filipino Moonchildren on their feet.
The “Nicole” tour is presented by Live MNL.
ONE stall sells pure taba ng talangka. Another offers guava cake in a delicate light green palette. There’s lechon, salmon, ham and sisig as well as freshly baked bread. And for the more adventurous taste buds, one chef has created durianturon halo-halo, while another whipped up a taho donut complete with sago and arnibal (treacle) syrup.
While some of the sellers, like The Plaza, known for its premium ham, and Trellis, already an icon in Quezon City since the 1980s, are brick-and-mortar stores, majority began with cloud kitchens during the pandemic.
Along with other likeminded foodies and food purveyors, they have formed the social media community Sarap Pilipinas as lockdowns ended and the transition to a new normal began.
And perhaps part of their own pivot to having physical stores for their businesses, at least 23 brave brands from the Sarap Pilipinas group have put up stalls at the Grand
Atrium of Shangri-La Plaza Mall for a four-day food bazaar that ends today, September 17.
“This community serves as the newest social media hub for individuals and similar groups to connect, explore, and appreciate the diverse aspects of our beloved Philippines and all things sarap by celebrating the flavors of Pinoy gastronomy, positive Filipino values and traditions, cultural education, historical trivia, our colorful roots and global impact, unique relationships and even our own brand of Pinoy humor,” said Sarap Pilipinas founding member Rochelle Farrales.
For Chef Kaira Ancheta, the flavors of Frozen Fiesta halo-halo pay homage to pastillas, her grandmother’s favorite pasalubong.
“We use 100 percent carabao milk to achieve that flavor and texture reminiscent of childhood dessert, pastillas de leche. We also use a bingsu machine that is traditionally used for milk-based Korean shaved ice desserts so it is really creamy,” Ancheta said.
Aside from her Divine Durian halo-halo creation that mixes durian flown in from Davao and turon, Frozen Fiesta offers the Ultimate Ube, Pastillas Parade, and Mango Dream versions of the traditional dessert.
Salmon HQ’s journey, on the other hand, is a testament to the saying that necessity is the mother of all innovation.
Queenie Uy’s family, during the start of the pandemic with all its lockdowns and physical distancing requirements, were looking for a place to order good Japanese food.
“We were craving for salmon, so we thought if we could not order this, then we might as well supply it,” she said.
It turned out their dilemma was shared by a lot of foodies who found it difficult to have fresh sashimi and sushi delivered in a safe and hygienic manner, and by sheer word of mouth on social media, her business that started in May 2020 took off.
“We became known for delivering what I would call affordable luxury. We made sashimi and sushi accessible to people who could not go out to source these themselves,” said Uy, whose Salmon HQ now has a physical store at the Podium Mall.
Senator JV Ejercito, a self-confessed foodie, attests to the quality of Salmon HQ. He was, in fact, among those who first posted about the product.
“When I posted their product on social media, everyone at that time was struggling. I thought then that in my own little way – you just posted a photo or video – you are able to help small businesses to survive and thrive during the pandemic and now post-pandemic,” said the lawmaker who attended the opening day of the food bazaar.
One of Ejercito’s other delicious finds during the pandemic was the guava cake of Monique Cakes.
“I am not a baker. I just started baking cakes in the middle of 2020, during the height of the pandemic, to cheer people up,” said Monique Tancongco.
Tangcongco, who admits that until now she finds it difficult to navigate social media, relied on friends and loyal customers who would heap praises on her cakes online.
“I do my own jam at home, and one day my mom said, ‘Why don’t you make a guava cake?’ Guavas are available almost all year round, but we
WORLDWIDE, buffet restaurants have joined the fight to try to reduce food wastage. Some charge customers for leftovers. Others allow takeaways of leftovers but for a hefty per pound fee.
And some, like Cucina of Marco Polo Ortigas Manila, go on the mindful route.
“We recognized a gap in dining expectations, particularly earlier in the week when peoples schedule often leaves limited time for lunch and dinner. So we introduced City Zen, our urban grazing dining concept, to provide thoughtful food options with a premium dining experience to fit busy sched-
ules and budgets,” Executive Chef Luca Agioletti told Manila Standard Cravings. Diners can choose from a selection of main courses while enjoying the entire buffet spread that includes a robust salad bar, a variety of noodles and dim sum, a pasta station, homemade soup, and fruit and sweets for dessert as well as a free flow of beverage package.
“The feedback of our patrons on the City Zen concept is very positive, as we have reimagined premium weekday dining. We have been mindful of both our Filipino and international patron’s preferences with a choice of grilled items as well as classic Filipino favorites as the main entrée,” Chef Luca said. Main course options include prime items from the Grill Station: three types of fish, lamb skewers, chicken and beef.
“Selected dishes I personally recommend include pork sisig, pork adobo, red snapper in tomato broth with mussels and baby potatoes, salmon teriyaki, chicken in mushrooms cream sauce, chicken katsu with curry sauce, braised beef with mashed potato and green beans, bone marrow and flat iron,” Chef Luca said.
“We rotate three different main menus for our guests weekly,” he added.
Mang Ceasar's lechon trio don’t really look at it and think this can be turned into a cake,” she said.
There’s also a chocolate cake inspired by tennis great Roger Federer and aptly named Grand Slam, Cherries Jubilee, and Strawberry Shortcake XO. For Farrales, the Sarap Pilipinas community is poised to expand as it supports sellers along the way, especially those who are taking their baby steps toward a physical store now that people are able to go out to eat and explore.
“Our primary objective is to promote and share the richness of Filipino hospitality through our culture and food, after all, we are what we eat,” Farrales said.
CAT owners are familiar with this routine: Their beloved feline becomes fixated on an object sitting on a table, or desk. After a brief pause, a paw reaches out... and the object tumbles to the ground, all while the cat watches with close attention.
“Cats are agile, acrobatic, and so incredibly aware of their surroundings; yet chances are you’ve also watched your destructive cat knock numerous items all over the floor,” said Paige Cerulli in “Why Cats Can’t Resist Knocking Things Over” in the Paw Tracks website.
While it may appear to be just another charming quirk of our cat companions, there are rational reasons behind this behavior.
1. Instinct Cats, being natural predators, are attracted to objects that are within their field of vision. Their hunting instinct urges them to investigate things with their paws.
“Your cat’s hunting instincts carry over to the objects he finds around your home. This instinct is strong, and when your kitty bats at and touches objects, he may be exploring them and learning about them.” Cerulli explained. The basic behavior of nudging or swatting objects off countertops and desks caters to this inherent instinct.
By Mariana BurgosSstudents, especially when they are presented with new surroundings as well as the social, academic, and emotional obstacles that come with university life. The transition from late adolescence to emerging adulthood is a critical developmental stage characterized by new difficulties, shifting roles, and greater responsibilities.
For many students, coming to university is their first time away from home, and they may feel homesickness or difficulty adjusting away from friends and family. First year students, in particular, are more prone to experiencing challenges in adjusting to and learning to manage their new duties. These additional obstacles may be even more challenging for those who are suffering from psychological disorders such as anxiety and sadness. University students were shown to have greater rates of psychological discomfort than the general population. Finding measures to promote student health and well-being in universities is thus critical. Interacting with animals is one method that may be beneficial.
It is often stated in the media that keeping a pet may have a favorable influence on our physical health and well-being, such as greater physical activity, increased social contacts, and lower blood pressure.
Pet ownership has also been shown in studies to offer certain psychological advantages. Several studies have found that pet owners, particularly dog owners, had higher levels of life satisfaction, higher selfesteem, lower levels of loneliness and anxiety, higher levels of ambition, and higher levels of good moods.
mendations for Implementation,”
Christine Grove, Linda Henderson, Felicia Lee, and Pheobe Wardlaw, all members of the faculty of education in Monash University, Victoria, VIC, Australia, said therapy dogs have grown in popularity in educational settings in recent years.
Dogs are increasingly being used to give therapeutic assistance in early childhood education settings, primary and secondary schools, and university settings to improve students' well-being, foster a feeling of belonging in school, decrease stress and anxiety, and even aid study.
What is a therapy dog?
A therapy dog is a dog that has been taught to give therapeutic benefit, primarily through Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT), Animal-Assisted Intervention (AAI), or Animal-Assisted Education (AAE), the Monash University faculty members said. The dog does not give therapy in and of itself; rather, how they are engaged and associated with the program may be beneficial.
How does a dog become a therapy dog?
The faculty members said that therapy dogs are chosen for their temperament and then trained, usually by therapy dog organizations, to be calm and obedient so that they can provide emotional support, comfort, and companionship to individuals in a variety of educational, health care, and community settings.
Therapy dogs differ from service or guide dogs in that the latter are trained to satisfy the unique requirements of one individual over time.
How effective are therapy dogs?
The faculty members said there is evidence that therapy dogs help reduce physiological symptoms of stress by lowering cortisol levels, increasing positive
emotions, promoting engagement in learning activities and positive attitude towards learning, reducing negative behavior such as task avoidance and aggression in the classroom, encouraging prosocial behaviors, and acting as a "social catalyst" to facilitate social interactions with others.
In the article “Therapy dogs help students cope with the stress of college life,” Christine Kivlen presented testimonies of students in universities that had been aided by therapy dogs with the universities’ AAT programs.
Several students expressed how nice and stress-relieving it was to take a scheduled break from academics to spend time with the therapy dogs, said Kivlen. What is more amusing is the therapy dogs seemed to love spending time with the students as much as the youngsters did with them.
Kivlen said several handlers reported that their dogs were considerably more thrilled to go to college on the morning of their designated day. They further stated that when they got to school, their dogs were even more enthusiastic.
In conclusion, the use of dogs, whether particularly trained for therapy or just house-trained dogs, or even the use of films, may be a highly valuable technique for colleges to employ in order to alleviate sadness and anxiety in students. The benefits of allowing students to engage with dogs in the university appear to be an acceptable, relatively low-cost, and successful strategy to improve and preserve a student’s psychological well-being.

EVERYTHING is peaceful around the home, and kitty is dozing in his usual nap area. It can happen quickly and unexpectedly. Your cat suddenly raises his head and his eyes become attentive. Kitty's eyes dilate, his ears expand, and he takes off with barely the tiniest warning wiggle! Without warning, your kitten sprints across the room as fast as he can! He got the zoomies!
What are cat zoomies?
Some call it the witching hour, while others refer to it as the nightly "crazies." Known colloquially as the "zoomies," this sudden burst of hyperactivity perplexes many cat parents. It frequently includes frantic racing, pouncing, bopping, and even excessive meowing that appears out of nowhere.
Jessica Comstock, in her article "Cat Zoomies:
Everything You Need to Know About Your Kitty's Frantic Runs Around the House," explains that Frenetic Random Activity Periods, or FRAPs, is a technical word for this type of activity. When your cat has an enormous burst of energy, dashing about the home is an easy method for cats
to get that energy out. Why do cats get the zoomies and what can we do to reduce disturbance in our homes? Comstock gives us three of the most common reasons cats get the zoomies.
1. When cats have excess energy
Cats are natural predators. They spend a lot of time napping, especially if they have a lot of alone time. This causes a buildup of energy, which finally bursts out in a brief, fast rush.
Because cats sleep much of the day to preserve energy (your feline buddy can sleep anywhere from 12 to 16 hours a day), when they are up, they are really awake. That is their nature because they are born hunters. It is in their DNA. Since the building up of energy is closely related to their sleeping pattern, we can try to develop a routine with them where they could use most of their energy in playing around with toys during most hours of the day. That way, they will tend to try to sleep off (their 12-16 hours of needed sleep) at night time. The same time that we get our sleep as well.
2. When your cat has a certain irritation, acute pain, or aggression A sudden shift in behavior may signal that your cat is in discomfort. When your feline pal is upset or hostile, they may display cat body
language such as dropping their tail, showing their claws, or leaning backward. If your cat's attitude persists for a lengthy period of time, get guidance from your veterinarian.
If your cat has fleas or sensitive skin, rushing about may be their method of escaping the discomfort. Your senior cat may be losing their eyesight or hearing and becoming more easily frightened, resulting in a frenetic rush around the home. If the zoomies persist despite regular activity, it is time to see a veterinarian.
3. When your cat has bathroom issues
Many cats appear to perform a victory lap after using the litter box. Some cats may rush around like crazy after having a bowel movement, especially if it was unpleasant. Infections or inflammatory processes involving the urinary system, colon, or rectum might cause such pain.
It might also, possibly, be the result of constipation. If your veterinarian checks out any medical causes for your cat's post-bathroom running, you may conclude that it's most likely just your cat's way of rewarding himself for a job well done. Cat zooming is just a normal thing. You need not worry much if you see them suddenly sprinting across the room. But if you detect ex-
2. Your Cat is Bored Felines experiencing a lack of mental and physical engagement in their surroundings often resort to selfentertainment.
“Our observant feline will probably be eager to explore, which could be a hands-on experience.” Cerulli said. When cats are left unattended for extended periods without any stimulation or social interaction, objects are likely to wind up scattered on the ground.
3. Attention
Cats that interact well with their owners find any form of human interaction enjoyable, be it laughter, observing, or even reprimanding. From the cat's point of view, looking like they are about to strike gets an immediate response from you.
Stimulate the minds of cats by giving them toys. In the photo is Borhap who loves to play with different toys. He was days old when abandoned with his four siblings at the public market. They were rescued by Save Animals of Love and Light-Save ALL. (Save ALL file photo)
“You might not be giving your cat positive attention, but he probably doesn’t care. Try to watch your cat quietly the next time that he knocks things over. See if he’s looking over at you for attention,” Cerulli suggested.
How to stop your cats
Be mindful of where you place your valuables. Instead of situating breakable items in locations that are tempting for your cats, store them securely in cabinets, and out-ofreach areas. Provide your cat with engaging activities. Cats benefit from having horizontal scratchers, scratching posts, and a variety of toys that are more enticing for play and exploration than the items on your desk. Avoid unintentionally encouraging her actions by giving her attention when she knocks your valuables off the table. Instead, redirect her focus before she even gets on the desk or counter. Engage her with interactive toys and treats to chase after. Keep her occupied to prevent her from exhibiting such behavior.
Always try to provide engaging activities for cats. Victory, a rescue of Save ALL, loves the scratching pad like all cats, specially if the pad has catnip powder in it. (Save ALL file photo)
