Davao police score 9.5 grade on simulation By F. Pearl A. Gajunera DAVAO CITY―Police Director General Ronald dela Rosa graded the Davao City Police Office with a 9.5 on its preparedness level after the “Southern Storm” simulation exercise at the abreeza mall here on Wednesday morning. Dela Rosa said he is satisfied with the performance of the DCPO during the simulation exercise, but there is still room for improvement. “They might relax if I give them a perfect grade, so I am giving them a 9.5. There is still room for improvements and they should never relax,” the chief of the Philippine national Police said. During the simulation exercise, personnel from DCPO, Bureau of Fire Protection, Task Force Davao, Central 911, Public Safety and Security Command Center, and other agencies showed their capacity in terms of terroristic attacks in the city. The different attacks portrayed was a bombing incident, hostage taking, high jacking and new People’s army attack in a police station here. Different scenarios were dramatized by the members of the security agencies and even real actress like JC Parker who portrayed as Mayor Sara Duterte. DCPO Director Senior Supt. alexander Tagum said that even though the police are lacking with some equipment, they are still ready to respond in any eventualities that might appear in the city.
In BrIef Cavite board passes LGBT rights ordinance The Cavite Provincial Board led by Vice Governor Ramon ‘Jolo’ Revilla III and ex-officio Provincial Board member Kerby Salazar of Cavite Councilors’ League has approved an ordinance that will protect lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders from discrimination. The ordinance named “Upholding and Protecting the Rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and every Citizen Regardless of their Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity or expression in the entire Province of Cavite,” protects each LGBT individuals from all forms of discrimination in terms of employment, education, accommodation and services, among others.

Makati ramps up data privacy work M
aKaTI Mayor abby Binay has directed all city departments and offices to give their full support to ongoing efforts of the city government to fast-track the city’s full compliance with the Data Privacy act of 2012, otherwise known as Republic act 10173.
Given the city’s thrust towards digital transformation, the mayor said it is “absolutely necessary” to take adequate preemptive measures in order to protect Makatizens and all other stakeholders from all forms of cybercrime. “My administration is firmly committed to pursuing full compliance with the Data Privacy act of 2012. We regard this as a fundamental and absolute necessity if we are to attain our vision of a Digital Makati where our citizens and other stakeholders can enjoy the optimum benefits of information technology, without worrying about threats to data privacy and exposure to cybercrime,” Binay said.
The mayor also pointed out that being the country’s financial center, Makati’s compliance with the law will boost investor confidence and strengthen its competitive advantage as an ideal investment destination in asia. SBMA employees donate blood SUBIC BAY FREEPORT―The Subic Bay Metropolitan authority, in collaboration with the Philippine national Red Cross, conducted over the weekend a bloodletting project that aimed to collect some 300 bags of whole blood donations to help patients in need. SenIOR citizens or persons more than 60 years old will be exempted from the color coding scheme and parking fees in Manila, according to Manila Mayor Joseph estrada. estrada said the new policy, which will be implemented soon, is part of the city government’s way of giving back to the elderly persons what they contributed during their active years. “The council and I have agreed that elderly, who are 60 years old and above be exempted from parking charges and exemption from color coding scheme,” estrada said. however, the new policy will only be applied to residents of Manila, while those living outside Manila are not exempted, he said. “Our senior citizens have contributed to our society during the prime of their lives. They have sacrificed much so that we may now enjoy the fruits of their labors,” estrada added. Senior citizens who are residents of Manila are now entitled to free movies every Monday, Tuesday and Thursdays in any movie house in the city. estrada also said that the city government will implement an ordinance that will order all establishments and malls in Manila to give free parking for all senior citizens. “We must reward our elderly and this ordinance shall further give the enjoyment in their twilight years,” estrada said. Since February 2017, Manila city senior citizens were entitled to free medical and services and other laboratory test in all city operated hospitals and health care facilities. according to Manila health Department chief Dr. Benjamin Yson, for this year alone, the city government has appropriated P70 million for free maintenance medicines. a sick and indigent elderly can get P3,000 worth of maintenance medicines for one month, and other services like free regular physical examination, cardiac stress test, endoscopy and the like. efren Manangan, Office for Senior Citizens affairs head, said that as of December 2017, Manila has 145,830 registered senior citizens, 20 percent or 29,166 of which are diagnosed and are required to be given constant medication for their sicknesses. Other benefits given to senior citizens are: birthday cash gift of P500; an annual P6,000 social pension from nCR DSWD in coordination with the city government. also a P100,000 cash gift is awarded to a citizen who has reached the age of 100 or more.

LahUG, Cebu City—In pursuit of its commitment to provide quality and excellent health services to the community it serves, the SM Foundation undertook the renovation of the Lahug health Center to better address the health concerns of the barangay’s residents. The refurbished center houses an activity center for children, a lounge for the elderly, dental clinic, doctor’s consultation rooms, labor and recovery rooms, a pharmacy with medicine storage area, nurses and midwives’ station, reception and waiting area, TB DOTS Center and Birthing Center to conform with Philhealth’s requirements for accreditation. This is the first barangay health service unit established among the 80 barangays of the city of Cebu. It caters to 39,573 families in 48 sitios, the biggest barangay in the city. Its renovation and improvement showcased a strong and cordial public-private partnership in the pursuit of a healthy community. Speaking during the inauguration and turnover ceremony, Cebu City’s Deputy Mayor for health Mary ann Delos San-

The BBhU will address the behavioral related causes of problems in drugs, suicides, depression, domestic violence, and family conflicts, among others. The Center, which is the 132nd Wellness Center so far of the SM Foundation, is also the 36th improved community center nationwide.
QC retrofits city hall for quakes By Rio N. Araja FOR the first time in 46 years, the Quezon City hall building is undergoing a structural retrofitting to strengthen its foundation and make it more resistant to a powerful earthquake, Mayor herbert Bautista said Wednesday. he said the city hall high-rise building’s structural retrofitting started as early as aug. 29 last year, and is expected to be finished in 270 days. The rehabilitation is being implemented in the east and west wings of the main building, including the construction of the shear wall or retrofitting from the foundation up to the third level to add rigidity to the building.
The construction shall also include the enlargement of the interior columns and the extension of west wing elevator to up to 15th floor, Bautista said. according to engineer JP dela Cruz of the City engineering Department, the construction work aims to cause minimal disturbance to affected offices, such as the QC General Services Department and City Treasurer’s Office. The affected offices shall be moved to the other side of the floor so as not to hamper the flow of work and other tasks of the said offices. The city hall building was constructed in 1964 and was completed in 1972 during the term of the late mayor norberto amoranto.
