NY Congressional Delegation Elects McCarthy as Speaker of the House

Thanks to the votes and support of the Republican congressional delegation from New York, Congressman Kevin McCarthy (R-California) was elected

Speaker of the House of Representatives.

Speaker McCarthy was elected early Saturday morning after 15 rounds of voting by House members.

"The Republican party is a big tent party with many voices, views, and priorities. We are reflective of the American people and the result of this diversity of opinion is what we saw play out in the race for Speaker. Whatever our differences, we are all united in our singular commitment to bettering the lives of the American people and reversing many of the disastrous policies of the last two years under one-party Democrat rule in Washington. Today, we elected my friend and colleague Kevin McCarthy as the new Speaker of the House of Representatives. On Monday, we get to work delivering on our Commitment To America which our constituents sent us here to do…We have a job to do, and I am confident we can get it done under the new Republican majority and under the leadership of Speaker McCarthy."

Holtsville Hal’s Famous Prediction to be Revealed on Groundhog Day

Six more weeks of winter or an early spring? Hundreds will gather at the Holtsville Ecology Site on Thursday, Feb. 2, to hear Highway Superintendent Daniel P. Losquadro announce Holtsville Hal’s famous forecast.

According to tradition, if a groundhog sees its shadow after stirring from hibernation on Groundhog Day, there will be six more weeks of winter weather; if not, spring should arrive early. Superintendent Losquadro will reveal Hal’s forecast at approximately 7:25 a.m.

“Our annual Groundhog Day celebration is an enjoyable tradition for many local families,” Superintendent Losquadro said. “I’m always hopeful Hal will predict an early spring to help my snow removal budget, but either way this is a much-anticipated event each year in Brookhaven Town.”

Supervisor Ed Romaine said, “Holtsville Hal’s

prognostication is anxiously anticipated every year and it’s always a relief when he predicts an early spring. Let’s hope that he doesn’t see his shadow on Groundhog Day and we can look forward to a short winter season.”

Although he’s sure to be the center of attention, Holtsville Hal will not be the only animal available for viewing on Feb. 2. Following the ceremony, residents are welcome to enjoy some free hot chocolate and visit the more than 100 non-

releasable, wild or injured animals residing at the Animal Preserve, which will be open from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Gates will open at the Holtsville Ecology Site & Animal Preserve, 249 Buckley Road, Holtsville, at 7 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2; parking is free. Residents are asked to arrive as close to 7 a.m. as possible to get a good view of Hal. Call 631.451.5330 for more information.

South Shore Press Endorses Kevin LaValle

On January 17th, registered voters in the Town of Brookhaven will head to the polls to cast their votes for Town Clerk. Residents will be asked to choose between Republican 3rd District Councilman Kevin LaValle, 45, of Selden, and Democrat candidate Lisa Di Santo, 58, of East Patchogue, in this special election. Both Di Santo and LaValle were unanimously tapped by their respective parties to run for the office. The candidate who is ultimately elected will fill the unexpired term left by retired Town Clerk Donna Lent, until 2025. Donna Lent has left some big shoes to fill.

It is the opinion of the South Shore Press that Kevin LaValle is clearly the candidate best fit to fill those shoes, and will blaze a path forward for the Town Clerk's office to continue serving the people of Brookhaven Town. Each candidate was interviewed by South Shore Press and asked what they will bring to the Town Clerk's office, if elected. By comparison and contrast, LaValle has intimate knowledge of the inner workings of the

Town Clerk's office, where the transition of the office with LaValle at the helm would be a comparatively smoother one. While Di Santo also touts an impressive record of public service with a resume that includes serving on the South Country School Board, and vice president of Bellport Area Community Action Committee, she was highly critical of the operations of

the Clerk's office, and came up short in offering concrete solutions and innovations to her criticisms. Since his election to the Brookhaven Town Board in 2013, LaValle has proven his ability to forge relationships and partnerships that have resulted in an economically flourishing council district with smart development, and a delicate balance between residential dwellings and precious open

Rotary Club of Shirley and the Mastics Honors WFHS December Student of the Month

The William Floyd School District recently welcomed members of the Rotary Club of Shirley and the Mastics to recognize William Floyd High School senior Miranda Calderon as the “Robert Guerriero Rotary Student of the Month” for December.

Miranda is described as a humble, hardworking and selfdirected student, who is an AP scholar and student-athlete with the varsity swim team. Along with excelling in her academics, Miranda participates in various extra-curricular activities including the varsity swim team (White Letter Award recipient), the award-winning Youth & Government program, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, and serving as the historian for the National Honor Society.

Miranda also volunteers her free time at Long Island Community Hospital and as an altar server at St. Jude RC Church in Mastic Beach.

This ceremony was attended by district and school officials, including Kevin M. Coster, superintendent of schools; Philip Scotto, principal, William Floyd High School; Viveca Nargi, chairperson, English Department; family members; and Rotary Club members

Dr. Fred Miller and Dr. Paul Casciano.

space for parks and recreation. We commend Di Santo for her tenured public service, however, Brookhaven Town needs leadership in the Town Clerk's office where the functions,

procedures and operations will seamlessly move forward. Kevin LaValle is the clear choice to spearhead the Town Clerk's office with its team of experienced personnel.

STATE

Senator Anthony Palumbo Sworn-In in the New York State Senate Chamber

New York State Senator Anthony Palumbo (R,CNew Suffolk) took his oath of office at the New York State Capitol where he was swornin by the Honorable Kathie Davidson, head of the Judicial Institute. Senator Palumbo will continue to represent the 1st Senate District which now, after redistricting, includes the northern portion of the Town of Brookhaven as well as the five East End Towns of East Hampton, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Southampton, and Southold.

“I am honored that the residents of the 1st Senate District have put their faith in me and re-elected me to be their voice and advocate in the New York State Senate,” said Senator Anthony Palumbo. “As Senator, I will continue to work with my colleagues on both sides of the aisle to enact common sense solutions to address the state’s growing affordability crisis, high property taxes and skyrocketing crime rates.”

Senator Palumbo was also promoted to Deputy Floor Leader by Senate Republican Leader Rob Ortt. In his new leadership role, Senator Palumbo will continue to steer

the Conference debates on the Senate floor, while having a larger platform to advocate for Long Island residents.

“I am honored to be appointed to the position of Deputy Floor Leader by Senator Rob Ortt and look forward to utilizing this new position to be a strong advocate for Long Island, and taxpayers from across the state,” said Senator Palumbo. “Now more than ever, it is important to

elevate the needs of our region and fight against policies that will place additional burdens on New Yorkers at the worst possible time.”

In addition to his new leadership role in the Senate Republican Conference, Senator Palumbo will serve as the ranking Republican member of the Senate Codes and Judiciary Committees and as a member of the Ethics, Environmental Conservation,

Investigations and Government Operations and Mental Health committees.

Senator Anthony Palumbo was first elected to the New York State Senate in 2020. Prior to serving in the State Senate, he served seven years in the State Assembly and is a former Suffolk County Assistant District Attorney where he handled major crimes on the East End.

NYS Senator Dean Murray is Officially Swornin to Office and Receives Senate Committee Assignments on Opening Day of Session

New York State Senator Dean Murray was joined in Albany by his family for his official swearing-in and the opening day of session. As part of the opening day’s business Senator Murray received his committee assignments.

"I'm very excited and thankful for Leader Ortt's confidence in me to serve as the Ranking Minority Member on three separate committees while also serving as a committee member on three other committees. As a small business owner for over 25 years, I'm happy to be able to tap into my years of business experience as I serve as the Ranking Minority Member of the Senate's Commerce, Economic Development & Small Business Committee,”

The Senator was also appointed to serve as the Ranking Minority Member on the Senate's Social Services Committee

and the Senate's Libraries Committee. In addition to those committees, Murray was also appointed to serve as a member of the Senate's Budget and Review Committee, Senate

Codes Committee and Senate Higher Education Committee.

"All of these committees play a vital role in providing guidance and taking action on legislation as well as giving direction on providing important services to the people of New York. I look forward to working with my colleagues, on both sides of the aisle, in all of these committees, to make sure we always do what it best for the people we serve," added Murray.

During the swearingin ceremony in the NYS Senate Chamber, Murray was accompanied by his mother, Thelma Peerce, his two sisters, Dawn Schaefer and Wanda Worrell and his friend, NYS Assemblyman Ed Flood.

SUFFOLK CLOSEUP George Santos and the Truth

There have been many excellent representatives in New York’s 3rd Congressional Districts which for many years included Suffolk County—taking in Huntington Town and a chunk of Smithtown. But just months before last year’s election, in May, as a result of a court-ordered second redistricting of the 3rd C.D., Suffolk was removed and the district’s segments in Nassau and Queens expanded.

Fine representatives through the years included, on the Republican side, Peter King, a former straight-shooting Nassau County comptroller, and on the Democratic side, Robert Mrazek, a former Suffolk legislator; Jerome Ambro, who’d been supervisor of Huntington Town; Steve Israel, a former deputy to the Suffolk County executive; and until the start of this year, Tom Suozzi, a former Nassau County executive.

And now has come George Santos!

Integrity is something we look for in government leaders—especially when it comes to high federal positions as members of the U.S. Congress. These are tremendously important posts with the power to take our money through taxes and our lives—by declaring war.

Santos fabricated a thoroughly phony history of himself in running

in the 3rd C.D and has continued to lie through last week. As a column in The Washington Post began: “Even by the lower standards for truth-telling in politics, the scope of the falsehoods from the newly elected House Republican has been breathtaking.”

Newsday in an editorial two weeks ago got it right. “Disgraced Santos should step aside,” was its title. “The blathering and evasive non-explanations now uttered by George Devolder-Santos for his invented back story convince us more than ever that he’s uniquely unfit to serve in Congress….Santos has been caught lying to a bizarre degree—about success in finance, about having degrees from college and grad school, about owning real estate. He’s even gratuitously dissembled for years about such personal matters as his religion and his domestic involvement. Now Santos admits to some astonishing fakery but is still defensively dodging.”

“Anyone who lies so blithely about who he is or what he does cannot be trusted with public power,” declared Newsday.

Newsday described him as a “serial fabulist.”

Last week, as the House of Representatives wrestled for days about who would be its new speaker

and thus was unable to do any other work—including having new members sworn in, Santos issued public statements saying he had been sworn in and also that he voted as a House member on five bills as early as December 22, before he was to take a seat. Reporting on this, the news site Alternet pointed to how Santos “has a long list of lies attached to his name, and that list continues to grow by the day.”

As the person he is supposed to replace in the House, Tom Suozzi, in a piece last week in The New York Times, wrote: “I’m being succeeded by a con man.” Just out in The Atlantic magazine is a piece by Steve Israel titled: “How a Perfectly Normal New York Suburb Elected a Con Man.”

Engagement Announcement

Congratulations

SCOTT & CHRISTA

Mr. Scott Christian Kubik of East Moriches and Ms. Christa Nicole Baker of Remsenburg got engaged on Christmas Day. Scott is the son of Mr. Scott Kubik of Coram and Ms. Jennine Dunn Kubik of East Moriches and he is employed as an Operating Engineer for Local 138 for Suffolk Paving in East Setauket. Christa is the daughter of Drs. John and Silvia Baker of Remsenburg and she is employed as a Dental Hygienist for Total Dental Care in Mattituck. A September 2024 wedding is being planned.

As another former 3rd C.D. representative, Peter King, said last week in Newsday, security issues are involved. “No one will be able to trust him or believe him. It would be risky to share any information with him,” said King, particularly about “national security or homeland security.”

“Do you have no shame?” asked Tulsi Gabbard, a former House member from Hawaii, declared in a TV interview with Santos last month.

But Santos has no shame. His brazenness is matched only by his complete lack of sensitivity to his situation. A story in Newsday on his first days as an “outcast” at the Capitol. When Santos balloted a vote for speaker, there was a cry

from a member: “Mentiroso!” (Liar in both Portugese and Spanish.)

To be given credit for first exposing Santos is a small Nassau County newspaper, the North Shore Leader. “The Leader Told You So,” is the headline of an article by Niall Fitzgerald now on its website. It begins: “In a story first broken by the North Shore Leader over four months ago, the national media has suddenly discovered that U.S. Congressman-elect George Santos…is a deepfake liar.”

The journalism of the North Shore Leader demonstrates the importance of investigative reporting on the local level. It was only after the election that The New York Times ran a front-page expose on Santos which has set off enormous media attention.

Santos is being investigated by the Nassau and Queens district attorneys and faces state and federal inquiries. As Linda Lacewell, a former federal prosecutor, wrote in the New York Daily News last week: “Santos may face a dilemma if federal investigators ultimately ask to interview him. Will he take the Fifth Amendment? If not, is he capable of telling the truth? If he lies over the course of a federal investigation about a material matter and it’s deliberate, that could be a separate federal offense…”

When we think of the most unthinkable sports champions, New York often comes to mind. From Broadway Joe's guarantee, to the Amazin 69 Mets, to Buckner's gaffe even to the Yankees in 96, New York has had it's share of miracle playoff to championship runs. The New York Giants are no exception.

Big Blue will always be remembered for their unlikely run when Eli beat Brady with a helmet catch ending the unbeaten streak but the Giants also had quite the run with a backup QB against the then unbeatable Bills as well. Now, as we enter the playoffs, it seems no one is giving Brian Daboll and Daniel Jones a chance. That

might be a mistake.

The Giants began the season at more than 100 to 1 to win it all before the year began in most sports books and even now aren't garnering the type of odds associated with a team that is already in the playoffs. They sit at 66 to 1 to win it all. New York has some flaws, sure, but this team also has a very good running game, a defense that has stepped up, and a defensive line that can cause havoc in the postseason. The Giants also get the benefit from playing in a weak NFC.

The NFC's best teams are still iffy bets to make it out of the conference. Philadelphia has an injured offensive line and a banged up QB.

Dallas has shown all sorts of vulnerability during the year and New York knows both of these two teams very well. Minnesota seems like one of the weakest division winners we've seen in years, Tom Brady's Bucs are barely getting past teams like the Sam Darnold led Panthers, and the Niners look dangerous until you realize they are going to be starting a rookie QB in the playoffs. The Giants currently sit at a nice and attractive 50 to 1 to win the NFC.

This is not to say the Giants will win out and be that shocking Super Bowl team, but it also shows that there is a path to that unlikely scenario. A scenario that New Yorkers are quite used to.

Another Giant Playoff Run?

A Power of Attorney is a state specific legal form that enables you to empower someone to manage your finances and assets on your behalf.

Having a Power of Attorney in place is always essential, but especially later in life. If you ever become incapacitated, your appointed agent will be able to act for you in your best interest to manage your affairs.

People incorrectly assume that a spouse or child can automatically take over this role. Unfortunately, many people find out the hard way that is not the case. Having this simple but crucial document avoids a guardianship proceeding.

Guardianship proceedings are expensive, time consuming and intrusive.

Some of the most common uses of a Power of Attorney:

Access bank accounts to withdraw or deposit money

Sign checks

Pay bills

Engage in Medicaid planning

Bring a lawsuit

Set up required minimum distributions (RMDs)

Hire professionals on your behalf, such as accountants, lawyers, home health aides, and geriatric care managers.

Sign contracts

Sell a business

A Power of Attorney can make the management of financial matters significantly more convenient later in life. Even if an individual still has capacity, they may want their agent to manage their finances because of physical limitations. Selling a house or a business later in life can be difficult and requires a lot of paperwork. With a Power of Attorney, the agent can take over the process on the principal’s behalf.

It is important that your Power of Attorney contains all the needed

Ways a Power of Attorney Can Help You

powers, which are only available from an attorney. To allow such transfers the Power of Attorney must specifically authorize gifting to certain people. If gifting is allowable to agent, the Power of Attorney must further authorize self-gifting. The standard statutory Power of Attorney form does not include self-gifting, the form must be modified to include such

additional provisions.

Moreover, a Power of Attorney must be tailored to your needs and family situation. For example, maybe it is inappropriate to give a friend the power to change beneficiary designations on your retirement accounts. A spouse or child, however, should likely have the power to do so to engage in

Medicaid planning. Without the right powers, your agent is not able to act in your best interest.

A Power of Attorney is limited to financial matters and does not include the authority to make medical decisions. Although your agent can hire nurses or aides for you, only a Health Care Proxy may make healthcare decisions on your behalf. Keep in mind that not only must a Power of Attorney have the right powers, but it must be executed correctly – signed by two disinterested witnesses and the principal and agent’s signature notarized. Another reason to seek legal advice when putting together an estate plan.

GREENLIGHTSthe Matthew McConaughey Memoir

Thursday, January 19, 2:15 – 4:15 p.m.

From Academy Award-winning actor, Matthew McConaughey, comes an unconventional memoir filled with raucous stories, outlaw wisdom, and lessons learned the hard way about living with greater satisfaction.

Greenlights invites readers to grapple with the lessons of life as he did, and to see that the point is never to win, but to understand. It’s a love letter to life, but also a guide to catching more greenlights, and to realizing that the yellows and reds eventually turn green too.

ON THE SEA Man Overboard!!!

Recently, a friend of mine fell overboard – while boarding a boat at the dock! Sound crazy? Not really – when the “victim” isn’t wearing proper shoes – when he stepped on the gunwales and not into the boat – and when the wake of a passing boat (who shouldn’t have been making a wake!) rocked the vessel strongly. In other words, things just go wrong at all the wrong times. Are you ready to deal with it?

As a case in point, when I take young boaters out for seamanship exercises, I start the man-overboard drills with an example. I bring the boat up to 20 knots and ask one of the youngsters to throw a fender overboard – and then count to 10 before yelling “Man Overboard!” During those ten seconds, two things happen. The fender disappears behind the boat, well over a full football field behind, and the faces of the youngsters turn white, and their jaws drop.

Don’t Fall Overboard!

Clearly, the best defense is not falling overboard. That means:

1. No “bow riding”, i.e., sitting up on the bow with your feet dangling over the side (btw, violation of Federal regulations – no limbs outside the boat while underway). Assuming the prop misses you as the boat whizzes over you, you could very likely be rendered unconscious by the boat passing over you. That is assuming the

propeller misses you.

2. No sitting on the gunwales –the edge of the boat – even if you are holding on tight. The skipper takes a wake too hard, and you are airborne. If you land in the boat, it is a small miracle. If you were sitting on the transom, unless the boat is in reverse, physics demands that you end up in the water. That is if you are lucky enough that the boat is going fast enough for you to land behind the propeller. You could be unlucky enough to land on the prop instead of in the water. A variation of sitting on the gunwales is holding the taffrail (railing around the stern of the boat) and jumping up and down with the swells as the boat passes over them. This is swell fun until the boat gets sluiced to one side or the other by

those same swells pushing the bow around. Instead of coming down inside the stern of the boat, which a moment ago was just below you, you come down in the water.

3. The failure to use the “3 point system” while working the boat can get even the most seasoned mariner. Always have 3 parts of your body in contact with the boat at all times, i.e., 2 hands, 1 foot; 2 feet, 1 hand. Try toppling over a 3-legged stool and you can see how much more stable this is than a 2-point system.

You Have Fallen Overboard!

You need to do two things. First, attract as much attention as possible as fast as you can. I never go on a boat without a knife, flashlight and whistle on my person. The light and

the whistle are to attract attention. The knife is to cut me away from the line I am tangled in that is dragging me below the water. Secondly, if the boat continues to steam way, start saving yourself – and that starts with conserving energy and heat. Eventually, someone will start to look for you. Don’t panic and waste life-sustaining energy. Assume the HELP position or at least float with your arms across your chest and your legs crossed. If you slip below the water, don’t thrash and waste energy. Lie there for a few seconds and then dog paddle up. Get back in the prone position and start over. If the water isn’t too cold, you can do this for hours.

Someone Has Fallen Off The Boat!

Train your crew in the following:

1. The first person who sees someone fall overboard does two things simultaneously. First, shouts at the top of his lungs “MAN OVERBOARD” and, second, NEVER takes his eyes off the person in the water and points at him constantly. I tell my crew, “Even if you have to watch him drown in front of you, never take your eyes off him.” Why? If you lose sight of him, we may never see him again. It is unbelievably difficult to find a head sticking up out of the water. This is why the USCG often sends helicopters first to look for people in the water.

2. Someone else throws a cushion, fender, life-jacket – anything and everything – towards the victim to give them something to swim towards and hold onto.

3. The boat driver brings the boat to neutral. The skipper then determines what side the victim is on and turns the boat to the same side as the victim is on. It keeps the victim inside the turning radius of the boat – and keeps the propeller moving away from the person in the water.

4. Call the USCG and tell the watch stander you have a “man overboard!” Your crewmate may be injured, have swallowed a lungful of water, or having a medical emergency (how about a heart attack?) Get the “rescue starts now clock” started ASAP!

5. Once you get alongside the victim, turn off the engine. Those props are potentially dangerous. Stop the engine entirely – especially if you are getting him back aboard via a swim platform.

Try the 10-second exercise one day with your crew. And watch their faces as the fender disappears astern…

BTW, if you are interested in being part of USCG Forces, email me at joinuscgaux@aol.com or go directly to the US Coast Guard Auxiliary “Flotilla Finder” at http:// www.cgaux.org/units.php and we will help you “get in this thing...”

The Vietnam War

The Vietnam War and the U.S. involvement in the war began in 1954, though ongoing conflict in the region had stretched several decades. In 1955 President Dwight D. Eisenhower pledged his firm support to Diem and South Vietnam. By 1957 the Viet Cong and other opponents fighting back with attacks on government officials and other targets, and by 1959 they began had begun engaging the South Vietnam's army in firefights.

A team sent by President John F. Kennedy in 1961 to report on the conditions in South Vietnam advised a build-up of American military, economic and technical aid in order to help Diem confront the Viet Cong threat. By 1962, the U.S. military presence in South Vietnam had reached some 9,000 troops, compared with fewer than 800 during the 1950s.

In August of 1964, after DRV torpedo boats attacked two U.S. destroyers in the Gulf of Torkin,

Johnson ordered the retaliation bombing of military targets in North Vietnam. Congress soon passed the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution which gave Johnson broad war-making powers, and U.S. planes began regular bombing raids, condoned Operation Roll Thunder, the following year.

In March 1965, Johnson made the decision to send U.S. combat forces into battle in Vietnam. By June 82,000 combat troops were stationed in Vietnam, and military leaders were calling for 175,000 more.

Vietnam War protests began among peace activists and leftist intellectuals on college campuses, but gained national prominence in 1965, after the U.S. began bombing North Vietnam in earnest.

Under the draft system of conscription as many as 40,000 young men were called into service every month,

adding fuel to the fire of the antiwar movement. In addition thousands of young men fled the country to avoid the draft. One of the biggest problems was the civilians spitting and calling the veterans returning home baby killers. That was the cause of serious depression of many veterans.

In contrast to the attacks on North Vietnam, The U.S. military under the command of Gen. William Westmoreland pursued the policy of attrition, aiming to kill as many enemy troops as possible.

By November 1967 the number of American troops in Vietnam was approaching

500,000, and U.S. casualties had reached 15,085 killed and 109,527 wounded. As the war stretched on, some soldiers came to mistrust the government's reasoning for keeping them there and claiming that the war was being won.

In January 1973, the U. S. and North Vietnam concluded a final peace agreement, ending open hostilities between the two nations. War between North and South Vietnam continued, however, until April 30, 1975 when DRV forces captured Saigon, renaming it Ho Chi Minh City.

According to a survey by the Veterans Administration some 500,000 of the 3 million troops who served in Vietnam suffered from post-traumatic stress disorder, and high rates of divorce, suicide, alcoholism, and drug addiction. This issue is markedly higher among veterans.

OF MEN & ANGELS

Among his many aliases Satan goes by the name of “the beast.” The beast has a celestial axe to grind against the top echelon of the Heavenly Host, Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel. This vendetta is due to his ignominious expulsion from heaven following the attempted coup d'état of the Throne of God.

Also known as the “number of the beast” the mark is associated with the book of Revelation in chapter 13, verse 18. In most manuscripts of the New Testament, that number is 666. In Greek isopsephy and Hebrew gematria every letter of the alphabet has a corresponding numeric value. Adding up these numbers gives a numeric value to a word or name. Preterists theologians typically support the interpretation that 666 is the numerical equivalent of the name and title Nero Caesar.

The beast causes all in a society struggling between spiritualism and secularism to be marked. It is with this mark that the beast identifies and claims his followers. His

loyalists perform wondrous miracles to deceive humankind.

Through his surrogates he will lead a powerful activist political system backed by an all-powerful military force. The number attached to the destruction machine of the beast is 666.

There is a great deal of fear and superstition associated with the number 666. In 1989 Nancy and Ronald Reagan, when moving to their new home in the BelAire section of Los Angeles after the 1988 election, had its address 666 St. Cloud Road changed to 668 St. Cloud Road.

In 1988 the address of Chicago’s American Furniture Mart building changed its number by its from 666 to 680 N Shore Drive, ostensibly to distance the new tenancy from the previous owner’s financial problems. In 2003 US Route 666 in New Mexico was changed to US Route 491. A New Mexico spokesperson stated, “The devil is out of here, and we say goodbye and good riddance.”

The phobia has been a motif

The Mark of the Beast

films as Pulp Fiction, The Doom Generation, End of Days, Destination, Bedazzled, and the Phantom of the Opera. Women had expressed concern about giving birth on June 6, 2006 (6/6/06)

In November 2013, Codie Thacker, a cross country runner at Whitley County High School in Williamsburg, Kentucky refused to run in her Kentucky High School Athletic regional meet, forfeiting a chance to qualify for the state championship when her coach drew bib number 666.

In 2015, US Representative Joe Barton had the number of a legislative bill he introduced changed from 666 to 702 because “the original bill carried many different negative connotations” according to a spokesperson.

Clearly throughout history, from early biblical times to present day, the Mark of the Beast is an ominous symbol of evil and ill fortune. It is a number which many shun and try to distance themselves from.
