Jennifer Bowen, a reporter from the Belleville NewsDemocrat in Illinois, heard Harris’s story and tracked down Eisenhardt’s daughter, Bea Harrison, in Pennsylvania. “It overwhelmed me that there was someone who knew my dad,” Harrison recalls. On May 3, the two finally met. “I told Bea her father was a good man doing a dangerous job,” Harris, 81, says. “Everybody in the company liked him.” At the end of the visit, he told her: “I’ve waited 60 years, but it feels so good to do what I said I would.”

Pick a shady spot. Sunlight will dry any soap suds onto your car, which will force you to do a lot of extra rinsing.

ay romano is on fire! he’s playing hoops after PARADE’s photo shoot in Los Angeles and landing every skyhook and jump shot with a swish. Not that his castmates from Men of a Certain Age are very impressed. “Hey, careful of your back, Ray,” Scott Bakula, 56, teases. “Yeah,” says Andre Braugher, 48, “we don’t want you to tweak anything.” Romano, 53, puts down the ball. “You’re probably right,” he says with a smirk. “I should go check my blood pressure.”

Who’d have thought the guys from Everybody Loves Raymond, Quantum Leap, and Homicide: Life on the Street would reinvent themselves as poster boys for the midlife set? On Men of a Certain Age, a drama (with laughs) now in its second season (TNT, Wednesdays, 10 p.m. ET), the three actors play old college friends balancing the joys—and joint problems—of middle age. What makes the show so MEN OF A CERTAIN AGE Costars Bakula, Braugher, special is the voice it gives to topand Romano (opposite, from ics rarely discussed by men, on TV left) do some male bonding.

“When women get together, or off: relationships, insecurities, job they’re all, ‘How are the kids?’ ” woes. … Joe (Romano) is a divorced Romano says. “Men just go, ‘Did you see the game?’ ” dad and party-store owner who can’t shake his dream of playing pro golf.

You guys all look great. How do you feel personally about the passing of the years?

BRAUGHER: I

love my geezerhood.

Time only ows in one direction, as far as we know. You have to go with it, because these are the only times we’ve got.

These are the good times. No, I do not look as good as I did at 26, but guess what? I’m not 26.

ROMANO: I think I have more of a degree of dread—you’re not even 50 yet, Andre. I do the numbers in my head and go, “I can’t believe this is happening.�

BAKULA: Aging is a state of mind.

Happily, because we all have young kids, that keeps us young.

[Bakula and actress Chelsea Field were together for 14 years before marrying two years ago. They have two sons, and Bakula has two older children from a previous marriage.

Braugher and actress Ami Brabson have been wed for 19 years and have three sons. Ray and Anna Romano have been married for 23 years and have four children.] Maybe I’m kidding myself, but it’s a trick that works for me.

BRAUGHER: You’re not kidding yourself. You just have to be careful. A couple of years ago, I came home and my kids were playing basketball. I jumped out of the car and started playing.

Next thing I knew, I had a fractured ankle.

THE DINER THINGS IN LIFE “This show looks at the good, the bad, and the ugly in relationships,� says Bakula.

Sounds like a moment plucked from the show. How much of Men of a Certain Age is drawn from your own lives?

ROMANO: Unfortunately, there’s a

lot of me in my character. On Raymond, we wrote what we knew, but we sitcomized it, so things came out in a bigger, broader way. That’s not saying I’m playing myself here. I’m not.

But things deďŹ nitely come up.

BRAUGHER: Like being invisible.

ROMANO: Yeah, we did a little run on the show about the fact that there’s an entire generation of women for whom guys like us don’t exist. I’ll be at a stoplight next to a woman in another car.

In the old days, I might have gotten at least a slightly illicit glance back. But now it’s as if they’re seeing their grandpa. You’re completely invisible to them.

Imagine if you weren’t famous!

ROMANO: Yeah, at

least give me that! I don’t even get “Oh, that’s the old guy from TV.�

You’ve all been with your wives a long time. Any relationship advice for readers?

BRAUGHER: Obey.

BAKULA: Communicate

and obey.

ROMANO: Well, if I can get more

My overwrought nature came into full bloom when I was about 8 years old. I started grilling my mother about heaven, a state of boring bliss she assured me would last forever. The key word here: For-evvvvvv-er.

Now I don’t want to make this a gende gender issue, but I would like to point ou out that a Gallup poll last year repo reported that stress and worry decline for men after age 50.

What of the women, you ask?

The p poll included this whopper of an ad addendum: Women suffer greater stress, worry, and sadness than me men—at all ages.

Cons Consider me not even close to stunned. Exhibit A: My marriage.

Nobody is more willfully oblivious to life’s sneaky turns than my husband. Happy, happy, that guy.

GARDASIL is the only HPV vaccine that helps protect against 4 types of HPV. In girls and young women ages 9 to 26, GARDASIL helps protect against 2 types of HPV that cause about 75% of cervical cancer cases, and 2 more types that cause 90% of genital warts cases. In boys and young men ages 9 to 26, GARDASIL helps protect against 90% of genital warts cases.

GARDASIL may not fully protect everyone, nor will it protect against diseases caused by other HPV types or against diseases not caused by HPV. GARDASIL does not prevent all types of cervical cancer, so it’s important for women to continue routine cervical cancer screenings.

What is GARDASIL? GARDASIL is a vaccine (injection/shot) that is used for girls and women 9 through 26 years of age to help protect against the following diseases caused by Human Papillomavirus (HPV): • Cervical cancer • Vulvar and vaginal cancers • Anal cancer • Genital warts • Precancerous cervical, vaginal, vulvar, and anal lesions GARDASIL is used for boys and men 9 through 26 years of age to help protect against the following diseases caused by HPV: • Anal cancer • Genital warts • Precancerous anal lesions The diseases listed above have many causes, and GARDASIL only protects against diseases caused by certain kinds of HPV (called Type 6, Type 11, Type 16, and Type 18). Most of the time, these 4 types of HPV are responsible for the diseases listed above.

GARDASIL cannot protect you from a disease that is caused by other types of HPV, other viruses, or bacteria.

GARDASIL does not treat HPV infection.

You cannot get HPV or any of the above diseases from GARDASIL. What important information about GARDASIL should I know?

• You should continue to get routine cervical cancer screening.

• GARDASIL may not fully protect everyone who gets the vaccine.

• GARDASIL will not protect against HPV types that you already have.

Who should not get GARDASIL? You should not get GARDASIL if you have, or have had: • an allergic reaction after getting a dose of GARDASIL. • a severe allergic reaction to yeast, amorphous aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate, polysorbate 80.

What should I tell my health care provider before getting GARDASIL? Tell your health care provider if you: • are pregnant or planning to get pregnant. GARDASIL is not recommended for use in pregnant women.

• have immune problems, like HIV infection, cancer, or you take medicines that affect your immune system.

• have a fever over 100°F (37.8°C).

• had an allergic reaction to another dose of GARDASIL. • take any medicines, even those you can buy over the counter.

Your health care provider will help decide if you should get the vaccine.

How is GARDASIL given?

GARDASIL is a shot that is usually given in the arm muscle.

You will need 3 shots given on the following schedule: • Dose 1: at a date you and your health care provider choose.

• Dose 2: 2 months after Dose 1.

• Dose 3: 6 months after Dose 1.

Fainting can happen after getting GARDASIL. Sometimes people who faint can fall and hurt themselves. For this reason, your health care provider may ask you to sit or lie down for 15 minutes after you get GARDASIL. Some people who faint might shake or become stiff. When I was growing up, my parents would make us kids pretend we had glue stuck to our bums to keep us at the dinner table. Whoever stayed put the longest was crowned the winner for the night. Now I do the same thing with my children, a 3-year-old and an 8-year-old. Kids, at least boys, are always jumping up and down. But on taco

Chicken Tacos 1 cup brown rice 2 cups chicken broth 1 can black beans 1 onion, sliced into thin strips 3 Tbsp extra-virgin olive oil 4 chicken breasts, cut into strips 1 package taco seasoning 8 flour tortillas (6–7 inches) 1 cup shredded lettuce 1 cup shredded cheese 1 fresh avocado, sliced

1. Cook rice according to package directions, using chicken broth, not water. Heat beans on low.

2. Sauté onion in olive oil on medium-low, about 10 minutes.

3. Add chicken; cook on medium until meat is cooked through.

For last 2 minutes, brown on high. Mix 2–3 Tbsp taco seasoning with a little hot water; add to chicken. Simmer on low, 1 minute, stirring until mixed.

4. Heat oven to 250°F. Wrap tortillas in foil. Place in oven 15 minutes before dinner to warm.

5. Serve chicken, rice, beans, lettuce, cheese, and avocado in small bowls. Other add-ins to try: scallions, tomatoes, red onions.
