Page 1

OUR SMITH CENTER FAMILY OFFERS DEEP THANKS TO ALL OF THE DONORS WHO HELPED US REMAIN SOUTHERN NEVADA’S HEART OF THE ARTS. I would also like to recognize our Broadway sponsors, Toyota and University Medical Center of Southern LookingNevada. back on all that we overcame together in the past year, I’m confident that what comes next will earn rousing applause. I LOOK FORWARD TO SEEING YOU IN OUR THEATERS THROUGHOUT THE NEXT 10 YEARS AND BEYOND.

This anniversary serves as a fitting climax to the center’s closure for 18 months, an unprecedented challenge in the performing arts industry. It goes without saying that the months leading up to this milestone anniversary were fraught with uncertainty. But thanks to the support of community members like you, The Smith Center persevered. Generous donor support during our ROAD TO REOPENING CAMPAIGN KEPT OUR LIGHTS ON during our darkest period. No one knew exactly what to expect when the center reopened in September 2021. At the time, we faced new health and safety protocols, staffing changes and patron uncertainty. But I’m thrilled to say that Southern Nevadans welcomed our reopening with joy and enthusiasm. Patrons returned to experience the joy of live performances they had gone without for so long. WE CELEBRATED OUR 10TH ANNIVERSARY WITH A WIDE RANGE OF PERFORMANCES FOR ALL AUDIENCES, spanning Broadway, music, dance, speaker series and more. Our Education and Outreach team continued to provide inspiring arts education experiences for tens of thousands of students and teachers. The Smith Center also resumed its role as a community gathering place for special events, including graduations, weddings and professional industry events. I encourage you to explore this community report and discover more about our uplifting performances and impactful community outreach from this benchmark year.

THIS PAST YEAR USHERED IN TWO OF THE MOST SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE SMITH CENTER’S HISTORY: ITS REOPENING AFTER THE ANDLOCKDOWN,ITS10THANNIVERSARY.

LOOKING AHEAD

Not only do audiences flock to The Smith Center nearly every night of the year, but the center’s neighborhood in downtown Las Vegas continues to thrive with a magnetic draw all its own. Symphony Park – the 61-acre parcel with The Smith Center at its heart – boasts ongoing development, popular events and a rising number of residents. It also features NEW OUTDOOR ART recently installed near The Smith Center campus, offering visitors and residents alike a feast for the eyes. The Smith Center will offer a thrilling audience experience this year for our 10th anniversary. Building on our immensely popular past Broadway seasons, we will present the biggest season yet of our TOYOTA BROADWAY LAS VEGAS® SERIES, WITH 11 SMASH PRODUCTIONS – the most in our nonprofit’s history. And for the first time in two years, The Smith Center will present LIVE STUDENT MATINEES again in its theaters this fall. With acclaimed productions based on popular children’s literature, and also showcasing international cultures, these matinees introduce the joy of theater to many students who might not otherwise have a chance to experience live performances. The center provides these matinees at no cost to schools. Beyond presenting world-class entertainment, The Smith Center always looks for ways to make our patrons’ experience more memorable when they visit our venues. From the moment a patron becomes aware of an event at The Smith Center, all the way to the point when they leave the theater, we want to ensure that every interaction with us is a positive one. That includes continuing to monitor evolving government-recommended health and safety protocols to keep our guests safe. This high-quality guest service — or as we like to call it, Service with Heart — will always be our No. 1 priority.

The arts and entertainment sector, including The Smith Center, was hit especially hard during the pandemic. Fortunately, our unprecedented intermission ended on September 14, 2021, thanks in large part to the SAVE OUR STAGES ACT Through the dedication of our caring congressional delegation, we were able to get through our toughest time yet. We remain forever grateful for the community-wide support that allowed us to successfully reopen.
