MATTHEW KASPER, Conductor

Known for his passionate and refined performances across the American, Ballet, and Classical repertoire, American conductor Matthew Kasper has become a fixture in the artistic communities wherever he has made his mark. His unique ability to bridge the American music of the last century with its traditional European roots grants him a wide-ranging repertoire, with a particular devotion to elevating the works of composers such as Ives, Shostakovich, Weill, Copland, and Jessie Montgomery, among others.
Kasper's versatility has been on full display through a diverse array of programs during his tenure as Assistant and then Resident Conductor of The Phoenix Symphony from 2015 to 2023. Over the course of more than 250 performances, encompassing subscription series, pops concerts, educational initiatives, chamber orchestra performances, and family concerts, he has cemented his presence among audiences in and around Phoenix. Some notable highlights from his time include mesmerizing renditions of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Ives' Second Symphony, Handel's Messiah, and a two-year stint as conductor for the prestigious Bösendorfer Piano Competition. In recognition of his indelible impact on the community and his ability to deliver dynamic and emotionally resonant performances, Kasper was promoted from Assistant to Resident Conductor by the orchestra in 2018.
Beyond Phoenix, Kasper's fervent and enduring performances, coupled with his ability to connect with diverse communities, have garnered recognition. In 2020, the Solti Foundation U.S. bestowed upon him a prestigious Career Assistance award. He has also been sought a er for guest conductor roles and cover-conducting appearances across the United States, Asia, and Europe. Recent seasons have seen Matthew working with the Rochester Philharmonic, Tucson Symphony, Evergreen Symphony in Taiwan, San Diego Symphony, Colorado Symphony, and the Cleveland Orchestra. Additionally, Kasper has worked with the Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, Opera National de Lorraine, Queens Symphony Orchestra, The Phoenix Symphony, and the Salt River Ballet. The current season’s highlights include a return to The Phoenix Symphony, multiple appearances with Arizona Musicfest, and debuts with the Milwaukee Ballet and New York City Ballet.
CLASSICAL MYSTERY TOUR
A tribute to The Beatles, backed by a Symphony Orchestra.
Imagine The Beatles playing in concert with a symphony orchestra. What would that have sounded like? Find out for yourself when Classical Mystery Tour performs live in concert.
“These four musicians are jaw-droppingly accurate…the concept is a Beatles concert if the lads had been accompanied by a gi ed symphony orchestra.” – Cape Cod Times
The four musicians in Classical Mystery Tour look and sound just like The Beatles, but Classical Mystery Tour is more than just a rock concert. The full show presents some two dozen Beatles tunes sung, played, and performed exactly as they were written. Hear “Penny Lane” with a live trumpet section; experience the beauty of “Yesterday” with an acoustic guitar and string quartet; enjoy the rock/classical blend on the hard edged “I Am the Walrus.” From early Beatles music on through the solo years, Classical Mystery Tour is the best of The Beatles like you’ve never heard them: totally live.
Classical Mystery Tour has been delighting pops audiences for more than 22 years, performing concerts with more than 100 orchestras in the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, and Australia. The group played sold out concerts at the Sydney Opera House, and has performed with America’s most prestigious orchestras, including the Cleveland Orchestra, The Boston Pops, The Philadelphia Orchestra, The San Francisco Symphony, and many more.
The Los Angeles Times called the show “more than just an incredible simulation…the swelling strings and soaring French horn lines gave Saturday’s live performance a high goose-bump quotient…the crowd stood and bellowed for more.”

Adam Hastings (John Lennon), Rhythm Guitar/Piano/Vocals
Adam Hastings was born in Newcastle to an English father (musician) and American mother (nurse). As a teen he gravitated towards playing jazz music, and was lucky enough to get to gig with some old pros a couple of nights a week, then went on to study Jazz at Leeds College of Music. He stumbled into the Beatles world (The Beatles and Nirvana being two of his favorite bands) and fell in love with this work. He joined The Bootleg Beatles at 22 years old and started touring world-wide. Some memorable highlights include playing The Royal Albert Hall five times, Glastonbury Main Stage and Acoustic Stage. In 2019 Adam and his family moved to Las Vegas to join The Fab Four and later joined the Cavern Club Beatles. Adam is excited to be a part of the Classical Mystery Tour show!
Paul Curatolo (Paul McCartney), Bass Guitar, Piano, Vocals
At ten years old, his musical journey began when he taught himself the drums. He quickly adapted to guitar and piano, which drove him to write and record his own music. At age 14, he was a member of the pop band "Wayward", and went on to record five albums. Until recently the band has toured the U.S. and was voted home town heroes in Alternative Press magazine. Paul's love for the Beatles has driven him to master the character of Paul McCartney down to every detail - from vocal inflections, to turning the bass over to perform le -handed. Paul considers it an honor to pay tribute to his idol.
Robbie Berg (George
Harrison), Lead guitar/Vocals
Robbie Berg is a selftaught musician from Spokane, Washington. He knew from a young age that he wanted to have a career in music. Robbie began by smacking the pots and pans in his mother’s kitchen until he received a drum set. His first performance was drumming along to “I Want to Hold Your Hand” for his third-grade talent show. He had thought he wanted to be a drummer, but then discovered he had a knack for the guitar. He began to concentrate on lead guitar and vocals, and eventually started writing his own songs. By the time he was 15, Robbie began his career portraying George Harrison in Beatles tribute shows. He has played cruise lines, Cinema Con, Broadway, Disneyland, and performed regularly for several years on the Las Vegas Strip. Robbie has been a life-long fan of The Beatles, and continues to travel the globe to pay tribute to one of the greatest bands of all time.
Chris McBurney (Ringo Starr), Drums/Vocals
Originally from Madison WI, Chris McBurney was drawn to the Beatles a er spotting “The White Album” in his older brothers’ record collection. That discovery set him on a musical journey for life. When he was 11 years old, McBurney toured Scandinavia as a boy soprano with the Madison Boy Choir and gained a love and appreciation of classical music. Now, as a drummer living in the NYC area, his playing has been featured on network television shows and commercials. He has performed on Broadway, and toured extensively in North America, Europe and Asia with a variety of acts. One of his most challenging and rewarding musical experiences has been studying and perfecting the musicianship of Ringo Starr. He is thrilled to be able perform his favorite music with full orchestration, and to spread the music of the Beatles to audiences all over the world.

A recipient of the National Medal of Arts, Slatkin also holds the rank of Chevalier in the French Legion of Honor. He has been awarded the Prix Charbonnier from the Federation of Alliances Françaises, Austria’s Decoration of Honor in Silver, and the League of American Orchestras’ Gold Baton. He received the ASCAP Deems Taylor Special Recognition Award for his debut book, Conducting Business (2012), which was followed by Leading Tones (2017) and Classical Crossroads: The Path Forward for Music in the 21st Century (2021). His latest books are Eight Symphonic Masterworks of the Twentieth Century (Rowman & Littlefield, spring 2024) and Eight Symphonic Masterworks of the Nineteenth Century (fall 2024), comprising essays that supplement the score-study process.
