FOR A WHILE in my ads, I nicknamed Choctaw Casino at Grant Blackball Casino, but what else could you call it if for the last year you gave them over $22,000 and the losing
has been outrageous! What else would you all it if you can’t get a hold of your hostess, she doesn’t return texts or phone calls when you are invited to certain events? What else do you call it when late September I finally get a hold of her only to be informed because I haven’t built up enough points (because of the outrageous losing) I have been dropped 2 levels and am no longer invited to the Onyx weekend in Durant? That’s what I called being Blackballed! I go to Grant 4 times as much as all the other casinos combined yet I hit more jackpots in 1 night at a Chickasaw casino than I have 2 years at Grant.
Yet I’ve hit more jackpots at another Chickasaw casino in 1 night than I have at a 1 1/2 at Grant. Yet I’ve hit more jackpots in 1 night at a Cherokee casino than I have 1 year at Grant. I go to Grant 4 times as much but I’m winning over 7 times as much at the out of town casinos. So, Grant, if you want to keep on blackballing me go right ahead, I do
not care. I do not mind the drive; it makes for a nice getaway. And most of the time when I’m leaving your casino, all I want to do is get away!

Urgent Vehicle Safety Warning Ahead Of Holiday Travel Season
(NAPSI)—As you prepare for the busy holiday travel season, you should be aware of an urgent stop-drive warning issued to owners and custodians of certain older model Dodge and Chrysler vehicles who have not replaced their recalled driver-side Takata air bags.
Approximately 276,000 2005-2010 Dodge Magnum station wagons, Dodge Challenger coupes, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans fall under this warning. FCA US LLC has distributed notices to owners and custodians of these vehicles to immediately stop driving them.
If you are unsure if your vehicle falls under this recall, you can check by visiting www.mopar.com/recalls, www.checktoprotect.org or www.nhtsa.gov/recalls and entering your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). The 17-character VIN is usually located on the driver’s side dashboard near the windshield and is also often on insurance and registration documents.
If your vehicle is affected by this stop-drive order, you should call 833-585-0144 to discuss the best options for your free repair. FCA US LLC will help arrange for your car to be transported to your authorized dealership or schedule a mobile repair unit to come to your home to replace the recalled air bag. Air bag recall repairs can take as little as one hour and dealers make the process as easy as possible for drivers.
This issue requires immediate attention because the longer these particular vehicles remain unrepaired, the greater the risk of an air bag rupture which can cause serious injury or death in the event of a crash where the air bag deploys.
Keep yourself and your family safe this holiday season and check your vehicle for recalls.

Most teams in the playoffs will end their season with a loss. This seems cruel but it is a fact of life. Instead of thinking of the loss, all players and coaches need to be excited about the good season they had. Teams need to change with the times. They must learn other innovations that are available and remove the Judas players and coaches. If not, they became victims of complacency.

Like football programs that decline, companies go from great to bankrupt quite often. Look at the great photo company Eastman Kodak. They took a hard fall. In comparison, let us look at Fisher Brothers. Fisher Brothers built carriages during the horse drawn buggy days. Then the automobile was invented and suddenly, the transportation business changed. Fisher Brothers adapted. They started building chassis for auto manufacturers and distinguished themselves as the premier auto body manufacturer in the world. Today, the Fisher family off springs are designing chassis for hybrid vehicles. The other horse drawn companies all went out of business. What happened? Was it competition, technology, or complacency? Did they view themselves as the best and change

Ignore those puppy-dog eyes: feeding dogs healthy treats during the holidays
Some dogs enjoy the spoils of begging for food; they might even swipe something off of a plate or the table when they think no one is watching. Yet these scraps aren’t always healthy for dogs and can create health issues over time.
Because of this, Dr. Katie Tolbert, a clinical associate professor in small animal and comparative gastroenterology at the Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences, reminds pet owners to pay special attention to foods their furry friends eat, especially as pets may have easier access to human meals this holiday season.
For a healthy dog with no food sensitivities, low-fat and high-fiber foods like fruits (except grapes and raisins), vegetables and skinless chicken breast can be given to dogs in small amounts. However, foods that are high in fat or larger pieces of food that may obstruct a smaller esophagus can present health and emergency concerns.
“A lot of the problems that we see over
the holidays for dogs are due to foreign body ingestion, so things like giving dogs turkey bones or ham bones,” Tolbert shared.
Obstructions from bones can be deadly, so if an owner sees their dog struggling to swallow after sneaking a bone, it is better to visit your veterinarian as quickly as possible to help remove the foreign object.
Issues that are harder to resolve, however, come from consistently feeding dogs high-fat items, leading to obesity and, eventually, other diseases.
“Diseases like worsened airway disease and worsened heart disease are linked to having more fat in the body,” Tolbert said.
Pancreatitis, a disease that causes an inflamed pancreas, is a potential longterm effect of feeding dogs too many high-fat items. Pancreatitis symptoms include stomach pain, vomiting, dehydration and shock. If your dog is experiencing these symptoms, head to the nearest clinic so a veterinarian can
determine whether your dog has pancreatitis.
For pets to stay healthy and avoid diseases such as pancreatitis, pet food is carefully formulated to provide all of the nutrients your pet requires. Tolbert said homemade meals can provide dogs these nutrients as well, if prepared correctly, with input from a board-certified nutritionist.
Pet treats, on the other hand, pose a threat to pets’ nutritional balance when given in excess.
“Because treats are not balanced for the nutrients dogs need, giving them too many treats can create a really challenging situation,” Tolbert said. “They can develop a state of malnutrition in the sense that you’re not giving your dog enough vitamins or minerals that they actually need.”
Tolbert advises limiting treats to 10 percent or less of your dog’s total caloric intake. For example, if your dog eats 500 calories a day, you should give your dog 50 calories or less in treats. Additional-
ly, each dog can have different treats depending on their diets, food sensitivities and health issues.
“Be cognizant of your own dog,” Tolbert said. “Each dog is an individual with specific dietary needs.”
Finally, Tolbert recommends that owners consider treats such as sweet potatoes, carrots or celery, and even marshmallows — in moderation — which are better, holiday-appropriate alternatives.
The next time your dog flashes “puppy-dog eyes” at you at the dinner table, think carefully about the health concerns associated with feeding your furry friend from your plate. Knowing how to safely treat your dog during the holidays will keep your dog happy and healthy into the new year.

Caution urged as holiday season nears
Many hallmarks of the holiday season, including Christmas trees, holiday decorations, and festive meals, present potential fire hazards that contribute to an annual increase in U.S. home fires at this time of year. According to the National Fire Protection Association, Christmas Day and Christmas Eve are among the leading days of the year for home fires.
“December is a leading month for home fires, in large part because many of the activities we engage in during the holiday season reflect leading causes of home fires year-round,” said Lorraine Carli, NFPA vice president of Outreach and Advocacy. “Plus, as colder temperatures impact much of the country, use of heating equipment increases significantly.”
Fortunately, Carli notes, the majority of winter fires can be prevented with a little added awareness and planning.
The NFPA Winter Holidays page offers a wide variety of tips and resources to reduce the risk of fires, while the latest NFPA statistics underscore the increased risk of fire during the holiday season and beyond:
Christmas Trees
-An estimated average of 160 home fires involving Christmas trees caused
two civilian deaths, 11 civilian injuries, and $12 million in direct property damage per year between 2016 and 2020.
-Some type of electrical distribution or lighting equipment, including decorative lights, was involved in more than two of five (44 percent) of home Christmas tree fires. Nearly one in five Christmas tree fires (19 percent) were started by decorative lights.
-The majority (74 percent) of Christmas tree fires occur in December and January.
Decorations
-An estimated average of 790 home fires that began when decorations (other than Christmas trees) caught fire caused an average of one civilian death, 26 civilian injuries and $13 million in direct property damage per year between 2015 and 2019.
-One in five home decoration fires occurred in December.
-Year-round, 35 percent of home decoration fires began with candles; in December, the number jumped to 45 percent.
-In more than two of every five fires (44 percent) involving decorations, the decoration was too close to a heat source such as a candle, cooking or
heating equipment.
Candles
-An estimated average of 7,400 home fires (two percent) started by candles caused an average of 90 civilian deaths (three percent), 670 civilian injuries (six percent), and $291 million (four percent) in direct property damage per year between 2015 and 2019.
-Candle fires peak in December and January with 11 percent of candle fires in each of these months.
-In three of every five candle fires, the candle was too close to something that could catch fire.
-Christmas is the peak day for candle fires with roughly 2.5 times the daily average; Christmas Eve ranked second.
-Falling asleep was a factor in 10 percent of the home candle fires and 12 percent of the associated deaths.
Cooking
-Cooking is the leading cause of reported home fires (49 percent) and home fire injuries and the second-leading cause of home fire deaths.
-Unattended cooking is the leading cause of home cooking fires.
-Thanksgiving is the peak day for home cooking fires, followed by Christmas Day and Christmas Eve.

Pastor makes resolution to become a ‘cheerleader’
PASTOR GARY D. WEEMS
The Rock Church Of Terrell
As the sun sleeps behind the eastern horizon, the seconds slip by and slowly, but surely, another new year creeps upon us. Wow! It’s not even Christmas yet and, well, I am already dreaming about 2023.
One of my New Years Resolutions is to be a cheerleader in life, an encourager; cheering others on as God leads them in their own personal triumphant parade. There is great power in encouragement. In the relentless pace of everyday life, we sometimes neglect to stop long enough to cheer someone else on. The people in my life who
have believed in me and encouraged me have changed my course many times with their words of strength and support.
According to the Webster Dictionary, encouragement means to “inspire with courage, spirit or confidence, to stimulate by assistance or approval.” We have incredible power in other people’s lives when we exercise the gift of encouragement.
Cheerleader? No, I am not talking about putting on some uniform and parading across the grandstand shouting and yelling for your favorite team.
A real cheerleader, in my opinion, shouts words of encouragement, approval and
congratulations. Small acts of kindness and words of encouragement can be stored in someone’s memory box for a lifetime. They say, “1 noticed you; you are significant.” I believe that God expects us to be cheerleaders in life.
Here are a few suggestions that God has been dealing with me. You are welcome to eavesdrop on our conversation.
1) Give a sincere compliment to someone daily. People remember them for a lifetime. In our busy world we are so miserly when it comes to handing out compliments. 2) Be kinder than necessary. I have a quote hanging in my
mind stating, “There is never a reason to be unkind.” This is one way of living by the golden rule.
3) Be the bright spot in someone else’s day.
4) Don’t rain on other people’s parades. Instead, be the first to cheer someone on in their accomplishments. We do not have to be fearful that someone is going to outshine us. God has given each of us a unique place to fill our world. Cheer others on with shouts of support, approval, and congratulations.
5) Never waste an opportunity to tell someone you love him or her. Say it daily, send notes, hug someone. We
all need to know that we are loved. And, finally,
6) Send a note of encouragement Writing is almost a forgotten art and yet it takes only a few moments to jot someone a note or send a text.
Whew! Okay God, I got the e-mail message. One of our choices in life is to be either the basement voice of discouragement and negativism or the balcony voice of hope, support, and encouragement. We need to be cheerleaders in a world that seldom ventures beyond the world of self.
Let’s undergird the lives of others with words of support. Let’s be God’s cheerleaders in life. Pass It On!
FROM THE BLEACHERS – Looking to the future
DR. JACK WELCH jackwelch1975@gmail.com
Most teams in the playoffs will end their season with a loss. This seems cruel but it is a fact of life. Instead of thinking of the loss, all players and coaches need to be excited about the good season they had. They need to focus on the continual climb for greatness, making important changes along the way.
It is important for coaches to continually grow in the profession, so they do not become stagnant. We have witnessed some teams become one of the nation’s best. Within a few years though, they declined. After reaching success, they thought they had all the answers.
Teams that grow together, focus on future success. There will always be some players and coaches wanting to
criticize. These people are like a cancer and must be removed from the group, otherwise they will cause descension. They are like a Judas and if not removed, they will destroy the entire organization.
Teams need to change with the times. They must learn other innovations that are available and remove the Judas players and coaches. If not, they became victims of complacency.
Like football programs that decline, companies go from great to bankrupt quite often. Look at the great photo company Eastman Kodak. They took a hard fall. Kodak began to struggle financially in the late 1990s. As a result of the decline in sales of photographic film and the time it took to move to digital photography, they crumbled.
In January 2012, Kodak filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. In
February 2012, Kodak decided to stop making digital cameras, pocket video cameras and digital picture frames and focus on the corporate digital imaging market. They have never reached the level of success they once experienced.
Did they view themselves as the best and change
wasn’t needed or did the leaders lack the confidence in their ability to continue to grow? Either way, time moves on. The number one reason for organizational success or failure is the ability to stay relevant. Staying ahead of the continual changing marketplace may seem an impossible task. Technology is moving so fast; it is imperative to keep up with the innovations and remove your Judas’ or you will get left behind very quickly.
Thought for the week: “The greatest of all faults is to be conscious of none.”
- Thomas Carlyle
