To alleviate hunger in Clark, Champaign, and Logan Counties by sourcing and distributing nutritious food to people in need, building partnerships, and mobilizing the public to support hunger relief.
VISION
We envision a thriving, equitable, food- secure community.
MISSION CORE VALUES

We answer every door with gusto, regardless of who rings it and their need.
We demonstrate our passion by acting with a sense of urgency.
2. WE ROOT FOR OUR NEIGHBORS.
We are relentless in our hope for the success of our neighbors. We never give up.
We meet people and their needs, where they are.

We work to connect neighbors with the services they need, beyond food, through established community partnerships.
We build stronger communities through hunger relief.

Thursday, March 27, 2025 | 4:30pm - 6:30pm | Wittenberg University
For the past 30 years, Second Harvest Food Bank has partnered with Wittenberg University for the annual Empty Bowls fundraiser. Every year, students from Wittenberg University and Springfield-area high schools hand make over 1,000 ceramic bowls to be sold as event “admission” to the all-you-can-eat soup buffet to help raise money for Second Harvest. The bowls serve as a poignant reminder of the persistent “empty bowls” in the world, a consequence of wide-spread food insecurity.
In 2024, Clark County Empty Bowls welcomed over 450 people, and is on track to reach pre-COVID attendance levels of over 800 people.
Ten (10) handmade bowls + Ten (10) admission tickets for an all-you-can-eat soup buffet
Up to three (3) pieces of collateral placed in every guest bag Two (2) individual, dedicated social media posts + Newspaper advertisement in the Springfield News-Sun + Inclusion in press release Logo printed prominently on all event signage + guest bags

Wednesday, April 2 | 5:00pm - 8:00pm | Soup Crawl in Downtown Urbana
New last year, Empty Bowls in Champaign County transitioned into a soup crawl around downtown Urbana. Participants in the crawl drive to the first crawl location (The Farmer’s Daughter) to purchase their bowl with event ticket. After that, participants walk or drive to multiple downtown restaurants or organizations to receive a cup of soup to-go (or enjoy it right in the restaurant!). The new event format received raved reviews and over 100 community members participated in the inaugural event. In 2025, we plan to expand the crawl to even more locations, as we have already received inquiries from several restaurants. We anticipate attracting 150 to 200 participants in 2025!

Empty Bowls LOGAN COUNTY 2025
Thurs, April 3, 2025 | 5:00pm - 8:00pm | Soup Crawl in Downtown Bellefontaine
Due to circumstances outside of our control, Empty Bowls in Logan County had to be cancelled for 2023 and 2024. We were sad to miss the event in Logan County the last few years, but we are looking forward to bringing back the event better than ever! Following the same structure as the 2024 Champaign County Empty Bowls, this will be a soup crawl at participating restaurants and organizations in downtown Bellefontaine. We anticipate this inaugural event will gather over 100 community members to usher in a new era of Empty Bowls. All participants will be able to purchase their bowl at The Flying Pepper Cantina, they will then be given an event ticket and map of participating locations. Each location will provide guests with one free cup of soup in a togo cup to enjoy at the restaurant or at a later time. This provides a wonderful chance to visit a new restaurant and enjoy the same Empty Bowls fellowship we have all come to know and love!

8:00am - 10:00am | Hollenbeck Bayley Creative Arts and Conference Center
September is Hunger Action Month, a time for food banks across the United States to rally together in the fight against hunger. At Second Harvest Food Bank, we mark this important month with our annual Harvest Breakfast fundraiser, where we focus on advocating for, and educating, our community about food insecurity in our tri-county service area. Each year, over 200 community members gather at Clark State College for a buffet breakfast and a keynote presentation from national hunger relief leaders, including Feeding America executives, as well as local heroes working in our community to feed our neighbors. Every year, the event highlights a different aspect of food insecurity previous topics have included Food as Health, Childhood Hunger, and The Power of Community.

The sweetest fundraiser of the year! Every year, Second Harvest hosts the Thanks for Giving Dessert Auction at Mother Stewart’s Brewing on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. During this event, over 30 homemade desserts are donated by local organizations and community members to be auctioned, with proceeds benefiting Second Harvest. Each year’s proceeds surpasses the last, with 2024’s event drawing over 100 community members and raising more than $70,000 for the food bank. This action-packed event is a favorite within the Springfield community with tasty treats, great company, and a worthy cause. You won’t want to miss this!

*The $20 Grab & Go Table is a collection of donated desserts that will be sold at a flat rate of $20, regardless of the item. This table is designed to allow all community members to participate in the Thanks for Giving Dessert Auction even without winning a bid in the auction. This table is very popular and sells out, often before the auction begins. We have no limitation on dessert donations for the Grab & Go Table.

MOBILE FOOD TRUCK DISTRIBUTIONS
Second Harvest takes food relief on the road!
Every week, Second Harvest goes beyond the walls of our North Murray Street warehouse to bring food directly to those in need Our mobile, drive-thru food truck distributions serve neighbors across Champaign and Logan Counties, bringing fresh, nutritious food to neighbors in rural areas. We travel to areas with few partner agency food pantries to ensure that no one goes hungry Our refrigerated trucks make it possible to deliver vital support to communities that might otherwise go without.
