The Shelter is a family of artists creating original theater for the New York stage. The heartbeat of The Shelter is our Shelter Sunday workshop, where writers, directors and actors challenge themselves to refine their respective crafts through hard work, creative exercise, experimentation and artistic discourse. Weekly activities include readings of original scripts, rehearsals of monologues, songs and scenes, as well as acting and directing exercises. W h o’ s W h o Jonathan Ashley (creative director), after growing up in Scottsdale, Arizona, moved to the East Coast to pursue visual arts. He studied fine art at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, and filmmaking at NYU, Tisch. In addition to his work with The Shelter, Jonathan is an illustrator, animator and graphic designer. Jonathan is very thankful to work with such a talented and supportive group of artists. Aubrey Ball (Maggie, On with the Show) is thrilled to be a part of Ghost Light. This is her third production with the company, having last appeared as Valerie in Soarward Holiday Party and as Wilhelmina in Fairy Tale. She was recently seen as Valerie in Waiting for Dogot and as Chrissy in the webseries Wrights Wrongs. Past favorite roles include Essie in You Can’t Take It with You, Wife in Rashoman, Ann/Ben in The Normal Heart and June in Fifth of July. Thanks to her friends, her family, her T. Schreiber family and all the “Shelties” for their support and belief.

Danielle Beckmann (Shelby, The Fly Space) is a founding member, performer and executive producer of the hit New York stand-up comedy show, Comic Diversity. Her NYC theater credits include Pizza Man (Bridge Theatre), Rent a White Guy The Musical (The Secret Theatre), The Little Mermaid (The Players Theatre), Cinderella (The Players Theatre), American English (17 Frost Theatre of the Arts) and I Hate Love (Midtown International Theatre Festival). Katelyn Collins (Katie, Make Love with the Light On) received her B.F.A. in theater performance from Salem State University, and is about to begin classes at the Primary Stages Einhorn School of Performing Arts. Jake Fine (lighting designer) is a New York-based lighting designer. Previously with The Shelter: Night Windows, Fairy Tale and The Shelter Presents: Art. Olivia Killingsworth (director, On with the Show; vocalist) recently starred in The Shelter Presents: Art (Robin, Robot Girl), and directed pieces in The Shelter’s Night Windows and Fairy Tale. Other acting credits: Alien Child (T. Schreiber Studio), The Very Persistent Gappers of Frip (Kirk Douglas Theater) and Steve Martin’s Wasp (The MET Theater). Olivia has trained as an actor and singer with Betty Buckley, Terry Schreiber, Larry Moss and Melanie Vaughan, and is a graduate of Occidental College.

Andy Hassell (Jason, Make Love with the Light On). This will be his fifth show with The Shelter as a resident artist. He’s a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts and the American Musical and Dramatic Academy. Michael Kingsbaker (co-artistic director; director, The Fly Space; playwright, Ingredients for Love) has been working professionally on screen and in theater for over twenty-five years. In Los Angeles, he was a member of Academy Award-winner Bobby Moresco’s Actor’s Gym. Last year, Michael was nominated by the Colorado Theatre Guild for Best Actor in a Play for his portrayal of Robert in John Kolvenbach’s On an Average Day (Curious Theatre). Recently, he co-directed the immersive Soarward Holiday Party for The Shelter. Bob Kolsby (playwright, Make Love with the Light On) was a Shubert Fellow in Dramatic Writing at Brandeis University. Columbia Pictures selected him as a member of their Talent Program and the studio purchased and optioned his original screenplay Radical Change. His plays have been produced throughout the US and Canada. He has taught non-fiction writing and playwriting at Brandeis University and City College and has been a guest artist at the Long Wharf Theatre.

Beth Jastroch (director, Make Love with the Light On; playwright, The Fly Space) is a graduate of NYU and Stella Adler. She has been writing, directing and occasionally acting with The Shelter for three years! Most recently with The Shelter: Soarward Holiday Party (Mindy the bartender) and The Shelter Presents: Art (Karen, Mark Makes Dave Lankford (executive director; playwright, Art; and director of Robot Girl). Lily Robbins (director, Schuhplattler). This is Lily’s directorial debut in New York. She hails from Denver, Colorado, where she studied ballet, figure skating and low-flying trapeze. Lily attended Bard College where she studied Medieval art and was a founding member of the Bard Women’s Rugby Team. W h o’ s W h o Nick Stevens (DT, The Fly Space) is very happy to be appearing in his second Shelter production! You may have seen him as Spaceman Hank Calkins in Fairy Tale. Classically trained, Nick is no stranger to singing and dancing with earlier roles including Mike Connor (High Society!), Richard Henry Lee (1776) and Marcellus Washburn (The Music Man).
