Inspired by Edward Hopper’s 1928 painting “Night Windows”—which gives the viewer a voyeuristic, nighttime gaze into the world of an anonymous woman—NIGHT OF THE LIVING peers into the married life of young parents Mia and Marshall through the portal of their Manhattan apartment. The troubled couple’s journey unravels through two intertwined timelines, one present and one future, and is exposed through intimate moments, both comical and heartbreaking. A zombie pandemic is their backdrop, and as they are torn further apart, Mia and Marshall will only have the sound of their voices across walkie-talkies to keep their marriage whole. Himself married and a father of two, Lankford honestly exposes the daily decisions a couple must make to keep their marriage alive.
