The Shelter presented the world premiere of This is a Play About Artists as part of The Shelter Presents: Art, which opened at the CSV FlamboyĂĄn in New York City on April 19, 2012. Kerry Miller directed Cicada (the film used in the production), with Michael William Bernstein as director of photography, as part of the original production.

The Shelter is a family of artists creating original theatre for the New York stage. The heartbeat of The Shelter is Shelter Sunday, a weekly workshop where writers, directors and actors challenge themselves to refine their respective crafts through hard work, creative exercise, experimentation and artistic discourse. W h o’ s W h o Jonathan Ashley (creative director) is a founding member of The Shelter. Jonathan wrote, directed and designed the 16mm film Notes from the Acrid Plain with Burton Hoary, Volume 7, selected for several national and international film festivals, including the First Run Film Festival (NYU), Science Fiction & Fantasy Film Festival (Seattle), Guanajuato International Film Festival (Mexico), Toronto After Dark Film Festival, Dances with Films (Los Angeles) and others. Jonathan illustrated the children’s book Bella Goes Bump in the Night written by Derek and Gine Roché and is an almnus of NYU Tisch.

Michael William Bernstein (projectionist) is proud to be a Resident Artist with The Shelter. Recent stage credits include: Lily & Kosmo Live (The Shelter), Gowanus ‘73 (UglyRhino), Measure for Measure (ADK Shakespeare), Grief (UglyRhino), Two Gentlemen of Verona (Extant Arts) and Celebration (UglyRhino). Recent on-camera credits include: You Can’t Kill Stephen King (Loco Dawn Productions) and NASA Girl (The Onion). Michael authored Kate, Robot Girl and Curiosity for The Shelter and Abe for UglyRhino, and his photography has appeared in Backstage, Time Out New York and The New York Times. www.michaelwilliambernstein.com Cate DiGirolamo (lighting designer) is a production manager and lighting designer/technician who has worked for Gate Theatre Notting Hill, Royal Court Theatre, Hightide Festival Theatre, Sadler’s Wells Theatre in London, and more recently CAP21, UglyRhino and Wide Eyed Productions in New York. She recently worked for

The Shelter’s productions Ghost Light and Lily & Kosmo Live. She is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Emily Robin Fink (development associate) is a founding member of The Shelter. Past projects include: Merchant of Venice (Portia) with York Shakespeare, Playboy of the Western World (Widow Quin) with Hangar Theater and Ivanov (Anna) with Miscreant. Meghan E. Jones (co-artistic director, technical director) is a founding member of The Shelter. She recently received critical success for her turn as Edna Pontellier in UglyRhino’s The Awakening.

Meghan attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts where she was awarded the American Theatre Wing Scholarship. Favorite roles include Annie (The Real Thing, directed by Terry Schreiber), Julia (Fefu and Her Friends) and Helen Jones (Machinal) performed at the Kennedy Center. She can also be seen several local and national commercials.

Ginger Kearns (playwright, Narrator) is a Resident Artist with The Shelter. Born and raised in western Canada, Ginger is a multi-talented actor, writer and comedian. New York credits include: Sleep No More, The Sopranos and The Dave Chappelle Show. Writing credits: Happiness is...

Kieren (Painter) is thrilled to be making his FringeNYC debut with The Shelter. A.E. is a freelance illustrator and the artist and author of the independent comic series Heartworms. He holds a BFA in Illustration from College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI and an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay from School of Visual Arts in New York City. He is also an alumnus of Upright Citizens Brigade and enjoys writing and performing stand up and improv at various venues throughout the city.

His ability to combine music and comedy has been featured on critically acclaimed podcasts such as Comedy Bang!

Bang! and Hollywood Babble-on with Kevin Smith.

Shane studied improv at New York City’s Magnet Theater and continues to write and produce video content for his website www.shanesarue.com.

Morgan McGuire (director of development) hails from the golden hills of California and now resides in the Borough Kings. Not so many moons ago she received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting from Marymount Manhattan College. She was last seen in Ghost Light (The Shelter) and The Last Michael Kingsbaker* Days of Judas Iscariot (T. Schreiber Studio).

(Poet, co-artistic director) is a founding member of Jessica Paz (sound designer). Sound Designer The Shelter. He has worked of Bruce Hornsby’s new Musical STRANGER. professionally in film, tele- Associate Designer of Fela! Since workshops in vision, and theater for over 2007 she has taken the show to Broadway (2009), 25 years. Michael was a The National Theatre London (2010), The EuroColorado Theatre Guild pean Tour (2011) and executed the Design for nominee for Best Actor in it’s return home to Lagos, Nigeria, and the US a play for his portrayal of Robert in John Kolven- National Tour. Lily currently studies acting with Terry Schreiber. With the Shelter, Lily directed The Schuhplattler (Ghost Light). Most recently she was the assistant director, as well as the singing performer, in Lily & Kosmo Live. With the Union Street Players in Denver, she adapted Susanna Kaysen’s memoir Girl, Interrupted for the stage.
